Life / Political correctness in Poland [210]

Food for thought, indeed.

My shy suggestion to what you say: old taboos which applied to individuals have fallen.

New taboos have been erected, as you say, to protect the whole groups groups from abuse.

There's not a single divorced person amongst your friends, relatives workmates or neighbours?

All my 5 aunts divorced their husbands (reason: alcoholism) but, you won`t believe it, they all got together again because it was love at first sight.

Life / Political correctness in Poland [210]

Same everywhere else in Europe.

Wow, perfect example:

Race reporting

Only mention someone's race if it is strictly relevant. Check to make sure you have it right. Would you mention race if the person was white? Do not sensationalise race relations issues; it harms black people and it could harm you.

Think carefully about the words you use. Words which were once in common usage are now considered offensive, e.g. half-caste and coloured. Use mixed-race and black instead. Black can cover people of Arab, Asian, Chinese and African origin. Ask people how they define themselves.

Immigrant is often used as a term of abuse. Do not use it unless the person really is an immigrant. Most black people in Britain were born here and most immigrants are white.

Investigate the treatment of black people in education, health, employment and housing. Do not forget travellers and gypsies. Cover their lives and concerns. Seek the views of their representatives.

Only mention the word gypsy or traveller if strictly relevant and accurate.

News / Czech drug legalisation threatens Poland [111]

nonsense, that's not a progression. Rum and whiskey are the same strength. You've just killed your own argument.

I was wondering if you would notice it... :):):):):)
Good!

However, remember that I am talking about rum produced in Czechoslovakia! :):):)

HUH!!!

I'm pretty sure you don't know the actual definition of this word as you seem to have used it in a completely wrong manner.

Actually, it seems you have a language problem (caused by lack of education) but I don`t have time to solve it for you. Sorry.

she made a conscious decision to go to harder drugs. Nothing to do with one drug leading to another. In fact, she just wasn't happy with the highs she was getting, i.e. The drugs she was using before going onto heroin didn't suit her, so she kept experimenting until she found a drug that suited her the most.

Now, read it again and see your inconsistence. :):):):)

Don`t tell me that you were wondering if I would notice it. :):):):)

you're a moherowy beret

Wow! :):):):)

You're one of Rydzyk's foot soldiers

Wow! Wow! :):):):)

News / Czech drug legalisation threatens Poland [111]

Myth! [quote=smurf]There isn't one single bit of hard solid evidence to say that weed leads to harder drugs. Certainly nothing that comes from objective research anyway. I'm sure you'll find plenty of research that says it does but you should dig deeper and find out who funded it, therein will lie the answer.

No!! I firmly believe it does, seeing how my attitude to alcohol has evolved over decades. I started with beer and rum as a young boy and see where I landed today?: whisky!

Weed is not addictive and therefore cannot and will not lead people onto harder drugs,

Incantations, incantations.....

People choose to move onto harder drugs. They do not ever do it because of what they've taken before.

Wrong! Do you ever read any books? If so, I recommend you to read an excellent book by a German ex-junkie girl who excellently describes her progress from soft drugs to heroine.

Sorry, your case is lost.

News / Czech drug legalisation threatens Poland [111]

I've never ever, ever treated anyone in my 25 years of being a physician (a sizeable portion of that time in inner city clinics) for a pot-related emergency/illness!
I can't say the same for nicotine and alcohol.........You guys can do the math on the meth, crack and heroin.

But it is normal that junkies start with light stuff before they switch to hard.
You haven`t treated anyone with pot problem because they had changed to crack long before.

but no doubt that as soon as they free him he ll move to a safe heaven where no one knows about him.

Did you forget the idea of the global village? :):):)

pity that the likes of Kaczynski got such a bad rap for wanting to go after people like this.....

Wanting doesn`t mean going. And don`t forget that Kaczyński`s wanting ensued going after all of them - no matter if innocent or guilty.

Yes!

Exactly: those people had a job to do and utterly failed to do their job.

News / Man taken to court for abusing Poland's president [35]

Old report from April 2012

A man has heard charges of insulting Poland's president, after he set up a web site depicting Bronislaw Komorowski as "a prostitute, homosexual, drunkard and participant in sexual activity."

Robert F. (surname withheld under Poland's privacy laws) from Tomaszow Mazowiecki near Warsaw is being charged with falsifying documents and another person's indentity and could face a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Poland's Internal Security agency (ABW) raided the man's home last May and seized his computer and storage equipment..

s

New report

Lampooner of president in court

The trial has begun of a 26-year-old man who set up a "satirical" web site that lampoons President Bronislaw Komorowski.

Robert F. (publication of full name withheld under Polish law) has been charged with insulting the president, falsifying documents, and using another person's ID.

Supporters of the defendant have argued that the trial represents an attack on freedom of speech, with Robert F. now facing up to five years behind bars.

On arriving at the district court in Piotrkow Trybunalski, central Poland, on Wednesday morning, the 26-year-old told reporters that he did not regret setting up the web site, and he re-affirmed that the portal is "satirical."

The site in question, antykomor.pl, includes computer games with such titles as 'Komor Kiler' (Komor Killer), in which users can fire virtual vegetables at the president.

The trial follows a May 2011 raid on the defendant's flat in Tomaszow Mazowiecki, central Poland, by the Internal Security Agency (ABW), during which Robert F.'s computing equipment was confiscated.

News / Amber Gold and other Poland's suspicious institutions [139]

The word "mafia" has been at last mentioned ( something that Poles have known for ages )in the Amber Gold scam.

Who knows?

I think there is so much more to this story than we will ever find out.

So far over 5000 clients of Amber Gold have lodged their claims for 274 million PLN in Polish courts. And it is not the end.

Gdansk prosecutors announced that the number of notifications about the possible commission of an offense by Amber Gold rose to 5 thousand . 287 Total claims approaching 274 million.

Previous information from the prosecutor's office on customer claims Amber Gold came out last Friday . Then the prosecution were 4432 notifications in the amount of nearly 233 million zł . Until Wednesday came so over 850 notifications , and the total claims increased by 41 million zł .

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

The voting result is posted on an electric board but is the way someone voted recorded or is discretion ensured?

Yes, all the voting results and MPs` names from 2007 are available here:

mamprawowiedziec.pl/glosowania

or even better, at the official Polish Sejm site: sejm.gov.pl

Hmmm some kid mysteriously drops and then gets saved, I wonder.

You think it was arranged? :):):):) Come on, I was joking with that rising support for Tusk.... :):):):)

But on the serious side, and I have said this before, it is terrible that people vote for a party just because they do not want others. It is also sad to see PO is only able to win by convincing people how terrible it would be if opposition parties managed to win.

I wouldn`t call it terrible. Don`t exaggerate. It is only sad that the opposition to PO`s rule is so pathetic.

Thank God that Palikot and sld are low.

You must be for PiS, then.

It is time to start a little presentation of major players. Let`s start with Palikot Movement, because it was discussed on today`s evening news. They said the party currently is below 5% election minimum and that is why Palikot is planning a media campaign to boost his party`s popularity.

As for me, I don`t care if they are or aren`t in the future parliament. Palikot is a showman unable to introduce any positive changes in Poland. Once he headed a parliamentary commission called Friendly State and he did nothing for two years or so. Now he wants to propose major economic reforms. Pathetic.

His crusade against religion and for the legalisation of soft drugs are also not my cup of tea. E.g., he is going to put up such posters oin major Polish cities this autumn: You don`t believe in God? You are not alone.

Polish poster

Crazy.
Isn`t it obvious why he is the most distrusted politician in Poland? He even one-upped J. Kaczyński.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palikot%27s_Movement

Palikot wants to end religious education in state schools, end state subsidies of churches, legalize abortion on demand, give out free condoms,[21] allow same-sex civil unions,[6] switch to the Mixed-member proportional representation system,[citation needed] reform the Social Security Agency, dissolve the Senate,[22] legalize cannabis[23] and implement flat taxes.[24]

You are so naive. Antoni Macierewicz, of course.
Any time he comes up with any new Smoleńsk revelation, GW responds. So who pushes the buttons?

Right.

The next question is: does anybody control Macierewicz or is he out of control?

Life / Political correctness in Poland [210]

Today`s example - there was a scuffle near a kebab bar in Warsaw between a group of Poles and a group of foreigners. One of the participants used a knife and 4 people landed in hospital.

Readers` comments suggest that the group of foreigners was of Turkish origin and laugh that their nationality was kept secret due to PC.

The row in front of a bar with a kebab . Four people in hospital

For serious fracas occurred this afternoon in Praga . Near the bar kebab clashed with two groups of men. As they say witnesses , one of the participants used a knife fight . Four injured people were taken to hospital .

News / Czech drug legalisation threatens Poland [111]

Polish broder guards and trained sniffer dogs are gearing up for a potential surge of drug smuggling after the Czechs legalised the possession of marijuana and even hard drugs such as heroin and cocaine. Any comments?

In Poland, Palikot and his party haven`t managed to pass the suitable laws yet.
