Life / New in Poland! Not yet jaded and loving it [34]

Problem is what would seem to be a large portion of the Polish population either don't know that or are too scared of the man to try it, and they all seem to be at the post office when im trying to post a letter.

Maybe they like to wait in lines,i don't know.Anyway,Poczta Polska have separate windows for mail (Listy, paczki) and for the other stuff so it seems to me that you simply went to the wrong window.

Life / New in Poland! Not yet jaded and loving it [34]

I went to the village post office to send 10 Christmas cards to England.

Guess what, official language in Poland is POLISH.If you have said Anglia or Wielka Brytania you would get the exact stamps you needed.I asked for stamps to U S A not Ju Es Ej and got what I needed with no problems at all. When I go to the post office in the US I don't speak Polish but English but when I go to post office in Poland I speak Polish not English.Makes any sense to you?

Did you not notice that a hell of a lot of people pay their bills in the post office?

I did but they were taking care of them in the other window so they didn't bother me at all.You could also pay your bills via internet from your bank account like my mother does and they wouldn't bother you either.

I and a few others tend to use the post office to symbolise two fairly big negatives in Poland: the cues and customer care.

From my experience, not much different than post offices in the US.Of course if you go to little post office in Bishopville MD you have very little chance to encounter a line (even though they have only 1 window and 1 clerk) there because Bishopville is a little place but in Salisbury MD or Ocean City MD ( they have 4 or 5 windows and more personell) there is usually a line you have to wait in as these towns are bigger.

Perhaps you haven't been to the post office yet....

Did you have some traumatic experience at the post office?I went to post office a couple of days ago to mail a letter to the US and didn't notice anything bizzare over there.

Law / Consul asked me why I want to go to Poland. Would my student visa get refused? [13]

so u mean i will get rejected?

Most likely as it appears that you intend to stay in Poland after graduating but look at the bright side, one door closes but another may open.Like Teflecat said, the consul did you a favor so now you can pick a country more suitable for your plan which I believe is to live in Europe.Where are you from anyway?

Love / Polish wife is threatening me to pay child support 1000zl per month. [40]

Pay her the money: any US citizen can make at least 2000zl here,

He never said that he is a US citizen.

the thing is i dont want to leave them both, its my family and i do care for both, but she dnt care about my feelings anymore.

It happens. My understanding is that you want see your child often. If so just pay her what she wants and what she wants is a reasonable amount.Because guess what,if only mother (or even grandparents) wants to keep the child, the child stays in Poland.US citizen or not you are won't be given custody rights in this country. You can hire an attorney but it doesn't seem that you have too much money to waste. If you don't care about the child just leave,it shouldn't be any problem.

Buddy the baby is american..so file a custody case in usa comnplicate nthe case ..usually this kind of cases are mutually agreed upon finally cuz american family court will give diff judgement then polish and the point will be which one to enforce lol and manipulate the case:)

I wonder where do people get ideas like this?-) Man,you would have come to Poland with state Police and CPS people to enforce American court's order.Seriously, how are you going to do it?

You really think a family court in Poland is going to give a flying fucck about what a court in the USA says about a kid who lives in Poland and has never even been to the USA?

The kid was

born in states

,"genius".But I agree that it doesn't matter.

Food / Is Polish food still more natural than in the West? [142]

like I said, probably also because of little sun, fruit and vegetables have no or very little taste compared to other places.

Other places like what?I can personally assure you that fruits and veggies grown in Poland are way better and more juicy than the ones grown in sunny California or sunny Florida. You can trust me on this.

Approximately half of the workers will be employed this year, with the rest taken on during 2013. The best-qualified workers will be offered monthly salaries of as much as zł.7,000, the company said in a statement.

The problem is that "The best-qualified workers" are already welding **** in Norway and make like 3 times of "as much as zł.7,000,".

USA, Canada / Getting a VISA to USA by a Polish person nowadays [339]

Lets focus on hard evidences not speculations. Can you post a link to the list of countries by number or percentage of vistitors to US overstaying their visas?Btw,we are already off topic as even the link posted by md1 says that visa refusal rate not the rate of visitors overstaying is the criterion for VWP.

It does exist!lol where I dont know but for sure it does.

I am sure aliens exist too.I don't know where but I am sure they do exist somewhere. However, as long as I cannot prove it no scientific institution wants to take my beliefs into account.

USA, Canada / Getting a VISA to USA by a Polish person nowadays [339]

Only two percent of people can overstay their visas to the US from a particular country to qualify, unless the country is on a trail.

You are dumber than I thought. The link you posted contains a lot of data re visa refusal rate but virtually none re number or percentage of visitors overstaying their visas (and I doubt any such data exists).Read it.

about how many poles each year actually overstay. the "formula" they use is the percentage of those that get refused a visa when they apply.

EXACTLY.

USA, Canada / Getting a VISA to USA by a Polish person nowadays [339]

There is a formula that the US government uses to get rid of visas for every country.

Link to this "formula"?Don't bother you won't find it.Participation in VWP is based on VISA REFUSAL RATE which depends solely on Americans. It is a shame that any retard can post his/her opinion no matter how stupid and untrue it is but I guess it has to be this way.

Life / Individualism in Polish culture...Is it almost Nonexistant? [170]

On a second thought they aren't that much different if any than the Poles.Freedoms in Poland are also taken away one by one for the last 20 years and not many protest.I guess it is human nature that majority just want to live by their lives as long as they have few basics provided.Lets not forget that strikes in Poland in 70's and 80's were not caused by the lack of freedom but had strictly economic nature.

You guys have been downgraded to such a state of obedient sheeple that our old Communist "masters" could only dream of.

Well, not all of them but it's unbelievable how brainwashed they are and how easily they swallow even the most silly propaganda.

How much do they pay per hour for part time job in Poznan and can I get job without speaking polish

If you think you will be able to support yourself in Poland doing part time job (I doubt you will find any) then think again. If you want to study in Poland you have bring a lot of nairas with you.

You guys lived behind the iron curtain.

And so did you.The difference was that we had much knowledge about what was going on on your side of iron curtain than you had about what's was going on on our side.

Life / Individualism in Polish culture...Is it almost Nonexistant? [170]

There was a limit how much hard currency one could officially exchange. If I remember well, it was $100 limit per person max. So Polish tourists were dirt poor then.

To be precise Polish tourists in the West were dirt poor,it was however different case when we were going to other KDLs.For instance I remeber when going for vacation in Constanca Romania we didn't take any money but a half of the suitcase of Biseptol which was dirt cheap and readily available in Poland. On the second day in Romania we didn't have any Biseptol left but we had a whole plastic bag of Romanian money, more than we could spend.Going to Hungary we were taking clothes to sell and to buy US dollars from Arabs who were selling dollars in underground pass next to Keleti train station.Funny that Hungarian milicia was often raiding bazars but I never heard of someone who was caught so I guess they were trying hard not to catch anybody.

And I did not have to live in an apartment bugged by STASI, as some of my East German friends had to. Was the life tough in Poland? Sure it was. But it was paradise compared to East Germany.

They did have some good stuff in East Germany eg.Simson and MZ motorbikes and kichen robots and I think they had more stuff on the stores shelves but their preserves were substandart (freaking jelly with no fruits at all).

USA, Canada / Getting a VISA to USA by a Polish person nowadays [339]

The most important criterion is that only a very small number of that country's citizens overstay their visa.

Really?Where did you get it from?Check the facts before you post a nonsense dude. The criterion is a percentage of REFUSED VISA APPLICATIONS which depends only on Americans.Geez!

Life / Individualism in Polish culture...Is it almost Nonexistant? [170]

Grubas, I talked to many Poles when I was there and I've been repeatedly told that there was no freedom in Poland "za komuny" whatsoever and that the decisions were made in Moscow.

What do you mean "whatsoever"?As for freedom, there is no true freedom wherever institution of state exists.I am not saying it to defend komuna but like any system it had its pros and cons.

If you deny that, then you have a very little idea about it, my friend

I am denying this:

It's like if I go from one state to another. In reality, all these countries were Soviet republics, we all know it.

I travelled (za komuny) to Czechoslovakia,Romania,Hungary and East Germany and I can tell you there were differences because I have seen them with my own eyes.

Oh c'mon man, that doesn't count and you know it. It's like if I go from one state to another. In reality, all these countries were Soviet republics, we all know it.

I doubt you have ever been in any of KDL countries then why do you post like you know anything? It wasn't like going from "state to state" and Soviet republics were a different cup of tea.Seriously, don't talk about something you have very little idea about.

Here's the difference (I can't believe we're even discussing this):

Poles: "Sir, you can go here, here, here, or here."

I can't believe you are discussing it as you didn't live in PRL either and what you are saying has very little to do with the truth. There were 2 kinds of passports 1 only for KDLs the other for the rest of the world. The KDL one you could keep at home but the other one was kept by Milicja.Anybody could buy a tour with Orbis,Juventur or Gromada travel agents for dewizy. Then you had to go to Milicja and ask them to give you your passport (which you had to later return to them). You were also allowed to buy a small amount of dewizy at official rate.My parents were never refused passport and in the years 1983-1987 they travelled to countries like Denmark,Sweden,Germany,Greece,Turkey,Thailand and Columbia.

History / Should Poland be given ANY credit for ALLOWING Jews into Poland for 1000 years? [195]

"Aryanizing" was done for example by stealing polish children with fair skin and hair and having them adopted by german families.

OMG.Learn some basics before you post such a nonsense.Even Hitler considered Poles to be Aryans. When Germans talked about ghettos they were talking "Jewish side" and "Aryan side".Geez.Polish children were GERMANIZED.On a side note, often people say that Hitler hated Slavs and considered them subhumans. This is another nonsense.Hitler specifically hated Poles (and he had a reason) but had no problem with Czechs,Slovaks,Bulgarians and Ukrainians.

History / The story about German- Polish reconciliation [194]

Silesia, Pomerania, East Prussia and East Brandenburg (Lubusz) should be considered as reparations.

True.Reparations from Uncle Joe (Soviets) for land lost in the East and we are still roughly 80000 sq km in red.

the territory of the Free City of Danzig should be considered as reparations.

Really? Then since you are so generous ,we the Poles will give you part of Netherlands as a token of good will.

UK, Ireland / British person entitled to see a GP in Poland at no charge? [10]

Can Poles living in the UK visit a GP etc totally free and get referred for tests and X-rays totally free of charge on the UK NHS?

Yeah,they can BUT:/news/uknews/immigration/9255044/Eastern -Europeans-fly-home-to-avoid-NHS-waiting-lists.html

Why don't you follow them and fly home to get treatment?

Just curious - is a Brit with a resident's permit entitled to a free consultation with a doctor in Poland, ie a GP?

I am sure you are entitled if you:a) pay ZUS b) register yourself as unemployed.Don't expect them just to treat you for free because even citizens of Poland are not entitled to free treatment if they are not covered under insurance scheme.
