Law / Is it illegal to burn the bible or any religious symbols in Poland? [30]

Yes it is and I'm gonna prove it to you! ah fock it, who cares...

I'll save you the effort. It's apparently illegal to insult people's religious beliefs. The singer for Behemoth got into a bit of trouble for ripping up a bible:

The District Court in Gdynia, Poland has dismissed charges against vocalist/guitarist Adam "Nergal" Darski of Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH in connection with a September 2007 incident when he reportedly called the Catholic Church "the most murderous cult on the planet" during a BEHEMOTH performance in Gdynia and tore up a copy of the Bible onstage.

Law / Germany and Austria to fully open their labor market to Poles in 2011. Economic growth? [49]

Germany is asking in Spain already for skilled workers who speak German, so the Poles will be more than welcome :)

I don't think that much will change. Blue collar workers are already over working under the table. White collar workers don't have a problem getting a work permit. Don't see anything earth shaking happening in May.

News / US air base to be in Poland [193]

We've got money for this? Wouldn't it make more sense to build up in Romania or Bulgaria? Or better yet, get something out of that whole Georgia relationship...

Law / I was fined for not having a tram ticket in Poland. How does this affect me? [68]

By looking at it, of course. He would need to show a Dowod Osobista or a Karta Pobytu. Neither of them easy to fake.

or an old foreign drivers license. and he mentioned that it was an old student card in the post. just pretend it never happened and carry on. even with all the proper information, it probably wouldn't get to you.

next time buy a ticket. regardless of how horrible public transportation is, if you choose to ride it, you ought to pay for it. don't like the product? don't use it.

USA, Canada / Dual citizenship - US doesn't care if you don't give up Polish passport [103]

Lots of people know about the benefits of US citizenship, here's a little downside. The US is one of the few countries in the world that taxes your world wide income. As a US citizen, if you move to Poland, you still get to pay taxes in the US (there's an exemption, but it's fairly easy to hit). Double taxation goodness. If you ever decide to give up your US citizenship, it's quite an expensive endeavor if you've got any kind of assets in the US. Just throwing that out there...bed time.

Law / ACN direct selling telecom company in Poland [45]

Unfortunately MOST of the people speaks without getting into the matter because it's so easy to open the mouth than connect the brain. Here is explained why multilevel marketing IS NOT a pyramid scheme:

If it's not a pyramid scheme, can you post details of how you make money without focusing on recruiting more people? How many subscriptions do you have to sell to make $1000/mo? How much does it cost to buy in? Do you get any of the $500 buy in fee for recruiting someone? Does that make up a large part of your income? How many "representatives" never break even in the program? What's the average monthly income of a rep?

The only thing that differentiates this from a pyramid scheme is the underlying weak token product. Good luck selling it over here, although there are probably plenty of desperate people that you can scam out of the startup fees.

Law / America takes leading investor spot in Poland [51]

Odd numbers that seem to be contradicted on the official site: paiz.gov.pl/poland_in_figures/foreign_direct_investment

Based on the figures, US investors would have had to invest nearly €10b last year in order to have increased their holdings to $20b.

Will check the NBP and GUS site to see if the stats are out for 2010, I was under the impression that it wouldn't be until April that they would be released.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

You can get all kinds of coffee over here, even raw beans to roast yourself if you're into that. I've got some nice Guatemala Antigua that I roasted and a bit of Blue Mountain that was already roasted.

Food / Typical lunch in Poland? [50]

Most people grab a sandwich or fast food. The food courts at the malls seem to rather popular around lunch time.

Food / Typical lunch in Poland? [50]

This might be more common amongst upscale types who constitute only a fraction of Polish society.

Same would go for people that can eat a full warm meal during lunch...

Work / Moving to Wroclaw: entry level salary at Google / how much money to survive? [18]

The basic cable package is 68zl through UPC. Throw in a 5mbps internet connection, you're over 100. Monthly ticket on on public transport will run you either 40 or 80, depending on where you live. For food prices, check alma24.pl, knock off about 10-20% if you're shopping at one of the local stores like Tesco, Biedronka, or your friendly neighborhood carrouf (other than the name, expect nothing like what you get in France).

I highly doubt that Google will pay 3800net for a basic customer service job. They'll probably offer low to mid 3000 gross, but they offer pretty decent perks.

Off-Topic / PF - The Omnibus Edition [1502]

This sux, I've lost my bearing, have been forced to declare an emergency and have made an emergency landing at an unfamiliar and a totally disappointing airfield. To make things even worst - the strip was covered with tall grass. :)

I just threw up a little bit.

I do not know if you finally decided to move to Kielce, but, I have infact moved here on a permanent basis from Monday to live with my gf.

News / Should government monitor the net in Poland? [38]

The article is a bit light on meat. My view is that if you have to actually seek out hate speech, it isn't hurting anyone. Improving the system of humans reporting would be a much better use of resources instead of a spider that indexes sites containing certain keywords.

Thankfully freedom of speech laws are strong in the jurisdiction that this site is based...

News / Should government monitor the net in Poland? [38]

It's a terrible idea. Threats are already illegal. How about just enforcing the laws on the books and treating each other as equal as long as it doesn't effect you? The problem is that "hate speech" laws ultimately lead to someone using the big brush and covering any sort of criticism with that term. I can already see this leading to prosecutions based on criticism of the Catholic Church for instance. Bad, bad, bad idea.

History / Insoluble Judaeo-Polish imbroglio? [44]

We can discuss it in another thread. Lets get this one back on topic.

History / Insoluble Judaeo-Polish imbroglio? [44]

Nearly the entire security team at Jordan Telecom (and living in Amman...) are Jews. Must have just been a mirage. No Jews in UAE either, nope...other than about half of the financial industry. None at all. Give me a break. Jews live and work all over the peninsula.

History / Insoluble Judaeo-Polish imbroglio? [44]

Can we not just say that all this happened in another time and place(even if geographically thats not literal), thats not to say forget but the place for forgivness and accusations is not our generations to take a hold of.

Exactly, it's history. It was experienced by others, nothing more than second hand for us.

History / Insoluble Judaeo-Polish imbroglio? [44]

Show me the arab ruled country which is free, democratic and let's it's Jews live!

No country in that region, including Israel, is free and democratic. Plenty of countries lets Jews live without any restrictions. Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar...

USA, Canada / Expat Poles swearing allegiance to the US - how did you feel? [157]

Don’t worry, obviously they never heard of Conscientious Objector clause.

Conscientious objectors in the US must prove that they are against all war (and that they were against all war before being asked to serve). If not, they get locked up. If the US were to go war against Poland for whatever reason, and Polish-Americans suddenly became conscientious objectors, they'd probably get shot by their neighbors.

G'night.
