Real Estate / What do you pay in rent/mortgage in Poland? [144]

we also have an income property at the seaside that has no mortgage- do you want that too?

i guess you just did.

Actually, this thread would be more interesting if people stated the circumstances with which they acquired their homes.

Was it given to you?

Did you buy it yourself and currently pay the full mortgage?

Did you get/are you getting help from family for your house?

I guess it doesn't say much if you don't know where the money came/comes from. If someone says "the mortgage is paid off" there's no telling how that came to be.

Real Estate / What do you pay in rent/mortgage in Poland? [144]

Anyway, 389.67zl czynsz plus 92.84zl electricity and 35.05zl gas is what I paid this month. Plus £40 for Sky TV

I was careful to make sure you haven't already posted your rent/mortgage, I didn't see it. So....rent/mortgage free?

Let's be very clear here, everyone.

Real Estate / What do you pay in rent/mortgage in Poland? [144]

Hi, Fuzzy here, the self appointed leader, bringing the thread back on topic with this: You're a perfect candidate for this thread Delph and it's quite appropriate that you didn't answer the question, because you in fact lived in Poznan, for your first 2+ years in Poland, rent free. I'm surprised you even posted, you must have known I'd bring that up, it was never something you liked to freely admit. I guess with lindenia being a complete failure, somebody had to cover the nut.

Now you have a house, I presume? Care to share with the class what your mortgage payments are? That would be more on topic.

We were all playing nice till you had to rush in and play the douche.

Heck, the poor man didn't even know about the existence of drive through restaurants, which tells you about how much he actually got around.

right, or, I spent most of my time in the center of Wroclaw where I lived and worked, and when I traveled outside of Wroclaw, I steered clear of fast food joints.

Do you live in a cardboard box?so low?

for rent, yeah, that's very low for California.

If I had hung out at expat bars like Guinness, sure, I would have met more. but i didn't. i didn't go to poland to hang out with americans.

The self appointed leader.

somebody's gotta do it.

I was hesitant because I don't want to appear as though I am bragging about it.

as i previously stated, you didn't answer, so:

pip = lives rent/mortgage free.

I kinda figured this thread would have these results.

All this talk about "cost of living in Poland" yet nobody wants to say what they pay......or don't pay.

Real Estate / What do you pay in rent/mortgage in Poland? [144]

Inspired by another thread, I'm asking a simple question:

Where do you live and what is your rent or mortgage payment?

Maybe add in czynsz/utilities as well, just so we can compare.

Oh, and we'd all love to hear from those of you that do NOT pay any rent/mortgage. If you post but do not tell us what you pay, we'll just assume you live for free.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

You stated previously that the flat in Krakow is owned by your girlfriend and the farm is owned by her parents. Does that leave you with a mortgage? or are you paying rent?

which is probably something that helps push down apartment prices in Poland (just trying to stay on topic here).

those old commie blocks and 100 year old houses in "the village" are breaking down and people aren't filling them like they used to (not to mention the country's youth is moving to the cities to find jobs) and now, people have to actually PAY for their homes. I swear, half the posters on this forum seem to be living in their grandparents' home or their girlfriend's/wife's parents' home or something to that nature and skating by rent/mortgage free.

at some point, poland will realize that life on their salaries simply isn't sustainable when everyone has a mortgage/rent payment. then they'll also realize that 27 is too late to be getting your first job.

foreign developers are going to make gagillions in Poland in the future.

Language / Give me some reasons to learn Polish [126]

..which ain't gonna help y'all in Poland!

look at it this way.....study french in poland so that when you leave, instead of speaking just english and some pure shite polish, you'll speak english and french.

dla starej płyty......... should it be dla starych płyt?

they're both correct, depending on what you want to say.

the first is singular, the second is plural. because there's the preposition "dla", stara takes an adjective plural form, and plyta takes the "5 or more" plural form.

so basically, yeah, what Poleee said.

Life / Which services is Poland still waiting for? [218]

Wow! So much effort to install so many points all over the world in order to converse loose change into paper? ?????

what great effort do you speak of? it's a machine the size of a washer machine, it gets set in the corner of the store, you dump your change in, take the receipt to customer service, and you get your cash. who's breaking a sweat with that?

So why didn't you?

you've lost me dude.

You certainly must have been if you didn't know about the existence of 10zl bug screens.

stop typing, start reading. I said they weren't standard in Polish apartments, which is a fact. I said nothing about whether they exist or not in Poland.

Then...install an air conditioning unit.

uhhhmm....that.....was....the point?

Your flat didn't have them because you'd be expected to buy them yourself. That's quite normal in Poland

not to repeat myself but......???......that's......correct.

I can think of several in Poznan. Perhaps you simply didn't look in the right places?

yes....why yes of course. 4 years, was looking in the wrong direction the entire time.

I'll take pictures of bug screens in/around the Rynek for you.

better yet, visit 100 flats, at random, throughout the city, and see if they got 'em. get back to me on your results. you know.....because that would pertain to the point I was making.

Subway is in Poland and people buy it. They buy it because they think it is healthy- because more and more Poles believe what is advertised is true.

Healthy compared to what? If you have a few slices of bread covered in butter with a few kielbasa and some cream based "salad" that consists basically of cucumbers, a few spices and onions swimming in fatty creamy stuff, which meal is healthier? Subway lists the number of calories of every single one of their sandwiches and unless you get a cheesesteak or meatball sandwich, Subway isn't bad at all.

You know what would be better and certainly taste better though? Instead of Subway hams, you get those sandwiches made for you fresh with Polish meats. But I digress......

I don't like those chemical things that you plug in but even when I use them there is little improvement.

yeah, we tried those too. no dice. if those make-shift screens work, that may be the best bet.

Life / Which services is Poland still waiting for? [218]

if you don't like it move back to a place where you can have a 50sq meter living room and sandwiches to go as you like them and you won't have to deal with uncivilized life with flats too small for your superiority since you NEED so much space and all these special things.

that's great advice. i guess that's why i left Poland last year.

but seriously:

First...the things you have listed are available to those who want them.

That's simply a false statement.

there is no equivalent to Subway in Poland. great meats and great bread in Poland, but you still can't walk into a deli and walk out with a sandwich, just as you want, made fresh, like Subway. I think that service would make a killing in Poland and it is something unavailable. Poles LOVE food on the go. Gyros, zapiekanki, KFC and McD's are absolutely packed all day long.....it's already a fast food culture, now just give them a more healthy, "Polish" alternative.

There might be some days in the 30s but it's ridiculous to act like its intolerable.

sorry dude, but i sweat like a pig in the summers out there and had trouble sleeping. oh, and no, i'm not fat.

tell you what....is there anything that has been brought up in this thread that you agree with? a service that Poland could use?

maybe you could suggest one?

or is Poland just perfect as it is.

Much more "even". Meaning consistent and without the constant up and down that forced air heating causes.

hot is hot. sure, you might tell me that you open your windows and turn a fan on and you're "just fine", but in the summer, the air is hot outside and the air inside that the fan is blowing is hot air too. to each his own, but I gotta have A/C in the summer to sleep well consistently.

Why didn't you buy the bug screens, as are standard in many flats?

what flats are you referring to? my flat/building in Poland was built (well, completely gutted and refurbed) in 2006, didn't have them. in 4 years living in Poland, I had never seen a single window with bug screens in a flat. ever. just sayin'.

quote=landora]Not one thing you've mentioned on this thread are unavailable in Poland.[/quote]

not one thing? now that's a stretch. as far as bug screens, nobody said they weren't available, just that they're not standard. because they're not.

But bug screens and sandwiches? Silly.

You know the title of the thread. If you don't want to read about stuff Poland lacks but could certainly use.....go to other threads.

Nor is my flat full of bugs due to the lack of screens.

consider yourself lucky. my wife and i used to wake up in the morning in Wroclaw covered in welts from mosquitos, not to mention lose sleep because we'd hear them buzzing right over our heads waiting to land on a fresh piece of meat. it was ridiculous.

even without air conditioning it is much more even than in the USA

"it is much more"? what does that mean?

Life / Let`s compare prices of services and products in Poland [359]

Do you know what would have already happened if it was true?

UK and others would have been invaded by 36 million instead of 2.

MAN is that a ridiculous thing to say.

I don't know what keeps me here anymore.

I'm not sure what's worse - European Polglish like "peelingi" or U.S Polish like "golumpkies" :D

That's a horrible comparison.

Now, if you had said, European Polglish like "chipsy" or U.S. Polish like "golumpkies", you'd maybe be on to something.

so in this case, "peelingi" takes the cake.

News / Don't go to Poland ... because you could end up coming back in a coffin [313]

Yes I did, maybe they were racist or maybe not... that's all we know for now, you obviously are sure they were racist because... he told you so :))

If that defense actually worked, history books would suddenly become very very very short.

If they were such racists they wouldn't have employed him at all.

he was hired by the white American team owner who funded the team and paid his salary.

They wanted a professional football player to coach the team....what better place to find one than the USA. Unfortunately for them, the players weren't ready to take orders from a black man.

Also, he wasn't fired. He left the team because of all the bull$hit and went to coach the Warsaw team.

News / Don't go to Poland ... because you could end up coming back in a coffin [313]

OK... and have you ever thought that maybe he was... for example simply a poor coach and now play the race card to explain his sacking ? Do you believe in all people are telling you or only when they are black and talk about being victims of racism ?

have you ever thought that it was simply racist players that treated him unfairly? see, now we're even.

Poland, a completely homogenous, white country with plenty of racism to go around (lived there 4 years in-country pal, i knew people that simply called them ni@@*rs like it was their official name), lots of "old minds" walking the streets, practically no exposure to africans.....i don't think the odds are in favor of your theory.

He was recruited by the owner of the team to take the head coach position after he got injured in the NFL.....I'd say he knew a thing or two about the game. But you think what you want.
