Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

We have eight layers of foundation brick below the house.

Perfect, this way your house will go to your future generations without any problem.
I have a friend who also built a house( with a building company) but just on the grounds, no foundations below her house, she paid about 220 000 zl in 2007 for about 150M2 without the land.

For me i prefer houses with foundations and a big basement/cellar/piwnica, it seems stronger ( not that there are any hurricane yet in the Krakow region ...) but it just looks stronger and more practical as space is paramount.

Wow congratulations Teflcat, your house looks really pretty and it sure does compensate for your 6 years of effort without holiday.
is the inside done too?
It seems that most houses in Poland do not have a piwnica ,no foundations inside the ground ,am i right?

Love / POLISH GIRLFRIEND WONT PAY HER WAY [127]

No, nor did I wish to ask for one.

Zimmy, why the heck did you have dinner with her in the first place ?
If she had paid for your meal would you have considered a second date with her?
You tested her but maybe she was testing you?
In my opinion the person no matter woman or man who initiates a date at a café or restaurant should pay the check in the same manner that someone who invites you over at his/her home for lunch or dinner pays the groceries and prepares the meal.

Work / How To Study In Poland and stay with my GF? Inability to move to Poland looks stupid. [60]

your underdeveloped country.

Turkey is not an under developed country at all!

30 years ago many Turkish immigrants from rural and poor areas moved to Germany France Switzerland etc just like Poles did there was always a big wealthy Turkish middle class whose members never needed to go abroad to make money and extremely rich Turkish entrepreneurs.

Those who wrote that Turkey was a third world country should take a nice trip to Istanbul, Bodrum etc and check figures ( GDP).

As for Kricjak, he might be able get a scholarship at a major university in Poland if he has the right degrees and attended for instance Galatasaray university, however in this matter Poland is the one behaving like a third world country because unlike Yale, Sorbonne,Oxbridge, who has ever heard of a Polish University attracting and giving grants to bright foreign students? !

USA, Canada / The most economical way to ship items from USA to Poland? [2]

You ll need to do some maths and compare if you want to ship your things from the US and if your company does not sponsor you.

You may leave all your stuff at a storage in the US (you will not be able to use any electrical items such as fridge, coffee machine etc exept with adaptators) and just come here to either rent a fully furnished place or buy your furniture at some ikea type of store(OBI etc).

it will be much cheaper .( Also American furniture is huge and may not be practical if you intend to rent a small place.

Law / Why is US $ getting so high or Polish zloty falling? [60]

Zloty leans on the euro and the euro's sinking the past two weeks,so....

Right. I would be interested to know the amount invested in Poland
1) By the Euro Zone
2) By The UK
3) by The USA

I read somewhere that France was the biggest investor in Poland( Carrefour, Leroy merlin, Auchan, Castorama,) but i am not sure

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

he's pointing it out just to bash Poland.

I disagree, I think that Delphiandomine loves Poland but he is not a Nationalist .
My Polish friends also critisize Poland for the same very aspects Delphiomine does when he describes the PIS voting Idiots, Polish Bureaucracy etc.

Real Estate / How to find a flat in Warsaw [9]

Searching for a place to rent in gumtree is very hard for the foreigners,

No it is not.Just post an ad on Gumtree Warsaw in English (using google translate ) with your specifications, location , rent period and budget + your email and for sure if someone has anything you will be contacted .

A lot of people speak fluent English in Warszawa, no problem.

Life / British working communities in Poland [12]

the British working community in Poland,

Before the Recession in the UK,a Pole going to work abroad was always an immigrantno matter he/she is a European .
Before the recession in the UK, a British going to work in Poland was an expat no matter he/she is familiar with Polish language or culture.

It seems that things have changed and British companies are not sending loads of executives because they can find excellent managers or local top executives in Poland and save money.

So in my opinion the British communities in Poland are mostly composed with British relocating to Poland for love or relationships reasons and they tend to immerse and melt in Polish society without getting too much together like in the old days of the Honk Kong Gentlemen club or during the days of the Crown Colonial Empire .

Work / JOB in Wroclaw for a Business Student fluent in ENGLISH/FRENCH/RUSSIAN/ROMANIAN [56]

Al111 why such an offensive and idiotic post against elenacovalciuc who is looking for a job? You literally called her a liar but you don't realize that people who can speak several languages would not lie since any prospective company needing a tri lingual employee would discover at once if the employee is fluent or not!

my second language is French a bit of Spanish(if i should call it a third) and Now Polish

Al111, we are not interested in knowing what languages you speak or not, learn how to write properly first instead of making nasty comments to someone who is asking for help.

Love / POLISH GIRLFRIEND WONT PAY HER WAY [127]

her money is hers and not used as often as mine.

I as wondering,Are there any prenup contracts in Poland?
The sorts that distinguish the possessions of the wife or the husband ?
Let's say, if someone who owns a house gets married to someone who does not and they later decide to split , the value of the house does not have to be shared.?

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

In Poland a debt collection company will chase you for the
rest of your natural life whilst your house gets sold at the best price on the open market.
This props the house prices up

That's why when prices are so inflated as in cities like Krakow or Warsaw and you risk beeing burdened all your life by heavy mortgages ,the best might be to rent while you are working and buy a nice and cheap place in a smaller town or in the country side to retire .

You can find nice houses for less than 300 000 pln in Poland but not in Krakow or Warsaw...

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

That's no surprise - Krakow is a very attractive place to live,

I agree 100% but as i said one can live in Krakow and rent a place instead of buying it because it is much cheaper than in a lot of places in Europe but buying in Krakow ,Warsaw is more expensive.

In my opinion, it is not worth buying a flat or a house if it means paying more for property than in Berlin, Montpellier ,Sevilla etc

Love / POLISH GIRLFRIEND WONT PAY HER WAY [127]

I have to make my wife pay for the windows. I've just paid a tidy sum for new doors and I'm getting fed up of always dipping into my pockets.

Come on Seanus, you ll benefit too from your new windows ,new doors and anything you invest in your home! What else would you use your money on? Lol

Traditionally women will take care of the groceries, their clothes , kids ' stuff and whatever is not considered "a big investment" in lasting goods, husbands take care of lasting goods usually don't they?

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

four-star hotels can be had for half that much,

Exactly an average rent between 1600 zl and 2000 zl a month buys you a four nights in London and in Paris but certainly not at a four stars hotel ,sorry!

Really a four stars hotel in London for 50£ per night you say? Please do share your tips and adresses about those 4 stars hotels in London , we would love to go to...

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Besides, unless renting is really expensive like in the UK there is no incentive to buy property : in Poland a long term monthly rent equals to the price of 4 nights at a London or Paris B&B but buying property now in Krakow is more expensive than buying in Montpellier,Toulouse, Berlin, Galway,etc...

News / Polish publicly-funded pre-schools have put up their prices [7]

Do you realize that in Poland, your taxes are peanuts compared with other European countries', so what do you expect ?

The Polish State has no money.

Everything is becoming private like in the UK and what is still state owned is struggling: Hospital, Education etc
If Poles were taxed like in Denmark or in France everything would be partially subzidized by the State but their disposable income would be very little .

Genealogy / How common is it for other people of Polish origin to discover they are actually Jewish? [127]

I think Poland would be a better place today if they were still all there.

I agree 100% Poland would be much better if the Nazis had not exterminated most of them.

There were over 3 millions of Jewish Polish people in Poland before the 2nd world war so of course a lot of people must have some Jewish roots.

Travel / My trip to Krakow and its ups and downs. [70]

Remember, Kraków is home to some of the toughest and most hateful hooligans in Poland.

Yes and what's more kevend have you ever heard of White Trash ? It is everywhere in Western and Eastern Europe , SA and in the US.

It is unfortunate but one cannot judge a whole city and country when meeting skinheads...

Law / Is running a business in Poland very profitable? [33]

al111

He must only work a few months per year then or freeze his feet during Polish Winter..

I agree that clothes are super expensive in poland compared with other countries.
A Polish friend of mine told me he got 2 euros tee-shirts of great design and quality in Vienna.
If Austria can be cheaper than Poland ......

Real Estate / Property-deal-in-Poland-fail-ripped off [9]

I am not speaking about real estate speculators or financiers buying to resale properties and make mega profits, i am speaking about normal buyers who buy something pay for it and are beeing screwed ,if it is their own fault ok , it is the law of the jungle ,ok but then what is Polish Justice and Justice in general for ?

Aren't the stupid Madoff investors eventually refunded and taken care off and the old crook in jail forever?

No ,buying an off plan property is not lunacy everywhere.

Real Estate / Question about Czynsz (Building maintenance fees/utilies) in Poland [129]

Thanks Delphiandomine for your advice( is there a Polish law saying that these bills should be available upon request ?) but we had no choice , i do not have a contract with this administrator she is the one who is in charge of our residence ,all the flats are in the same situation.

I suppose her contract is renewed every year by the co owners board but i never received any invitation to those meetings.

I am not speaking of my own electricity bills which i receive for my private apartment but about the building staircase electricity.

Also delphiandomine , many Poles i know who live in Krakow are in the same situation but far more accepting than i am . If they receive a bill they just pay assuming all is in order and official. They don't seem to question their Czyncz cost.

I am not complaining about how the buildings are beeing managed in terms of cleanliness, etc it is just that i would like to see like in Germany France Uk US the year budget forecasted for the maintenance and how it is split among owners and the official bills from suppliers of the building.

Do you know what i mean ?

Real Estate / Property-deal-in-Poland-fail-ripped off [9]

yes of course, hundred of off plan property buyers were screwed by mafia developers from 2004 up until now ( have you never heard of Leopard SA and Bud Mar Investment in Krakow?) they got the buyers money and never built the promised flats or tremendously increased the prices which were supposed to be warranteed to buyers)

The Polish goverment is not protecting consumers at all. Polish Justice is a joke when it should defend victims and not predators like developers.

it means endless legal fights and those who do not have money to get lawyers to defend their rights lost and are loosing everything without beeing able to do anything.

Typically the developers show beautiful layout of the Real estate projects and great web site, they make you pay intallments with the signature of a notary act which is crap but looks offical and buyers think they are protected but then the developer is not obliged to build anything really or will take ages to complete the project and will not agree to sign the final act of purchase unless the clients pay extra money!

I have Polish friends who bought a house with Bud Mar Investment paid 700 000 zl in Myslenice in 2007 , all they got was 4 walls on the ground!

She and her husband fought in court but gave up and agreed to pay extra money because Polish justice did not defend them.

So it is important to avoid buying off plan property in Poland until there are laws preventing dishonest developers to abuse clients.
I believe things will improve but i don't know when, never heard of a developer who was put in jail for years and had to pay back the abused clients.

The Jersey Polish murderer should have turned his anger against his developer instead of killing his whole family.
So yes, how can Polish Justice allow that people can loose all their money savings to Polish mafia developers?

Real Estate / Question about Czynsz (Building maintenance fees/utilies) in Poland [129]

The Czynsz /utilities system is absolutely not transparent and crazy in Poland and it has to change!
I am a landlord and i pay my Czynsz( i include it in the tenant 's rent for less bureaucracy and because i rent for 1 year max) but there is no way for me to check that the woman who is "the administrator" of our residence charges in an honest way what each person owes for water, building electricity, building cleaning, Building repairs etc.

HOW COME WE DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE OFFICIAL INVOICES from TAURON'(electricity)?
HOW COME We DO NOT KNOW WhAT THE OTHER RESiDENTS PAY BASED ON THE SQUARE METERS OF THE APARTMENTS?

This Administrator also owns some apartements in our buildings herself and there is no way to know if she is herself paying what she owes !!!

( not to mention that she was a former employee of the developer who built our flats and suddenly became administrator whith her own business, seems that pretty anyone can incorporate as a company dealing with Czynsz in Poland!)

She just sends her invoices and that's all she might just aswell charge me any amount she wants because apart from the water consumption which i can check with the meter, there is absolutely nothing i can control .

I was never ever refunded for any thing i might have paid too much in the Fundunsz remontowy.
Crazy.and a rip off.

Real Estate / Best Mortgage Lender in Poland? [25]

but that's their own stupid fault.

Naive consumers are not necessarely stupid ,were you never abused by some phony promises or ripped off?

Look at the Madoff victims, thousands of them among whom some very very clever people!
