Law / Question about bureaucracy in Poland. [13]

This whole taxes thing is very unpleasant as far as I am concerned and in my opinion should be abolished.

Look at how that worked out for the Greeks.

Almost as suicidal as mounting a K9? Rottwieler's don't take kindly to that sort of behaviour, so I am told.

(I am not overly ambitious)

Come now my good man. This is more ambitious than, let's say, climbing a bloody mountain.... When climbing a mountain, one has an army of sherpas doing all the heavy lifting, unlike this accomplishment.

cans abound and the waste bin overflows with half finished sudoku puzzles

In recessionary times, the sudoku should be seen as half unfinished.

Here's to 50!

Simpsons

Gene - Your age is showing. I remember as a kid going to downtown Toronto (before the Eaton's Center was built) to look at the Christmas displays they had in the storefront windows... How long has Simpson's been gone?

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

It's not just to solve the population problem

As noted above, moving people is not the key to solving the population problem. Forced sterilization via "water treatment programs" is the key to ending the suffering of countless millions upon millions of the poor and starving populations of the world that can't seem to feed themselves.

Who makes good neighbors?

That's easy. Filipinos, Koreans, Chinese are hard-working and family-oriented. They also make great neighbors.

There is the answer.

Life / Multiracial Poles [154]

Hope you don't mean I have to bang a black chick so that my progeny can jump higher..

Now is that the cup half full or cup half empty perspective....

Your female black mate might be of the perspective that your combined offspring now can't jump as high as if she had mated with somebody closer to her own genetic make up.

News / American soldiers beat up in Torun, Łódź [141]

but would you describe them as Poles?

I would. They are more Polish than those who would abandon their homeland for opportunistic reasons. They live and work in Poland, pay taxes, speak the language, make Poland a better place. Or at least that's the argument I have seen put forth on other threads. :-)

Love / 'Seks po polsku' - the sex lives of Poles: [45]

And I believe in the tooth fairy.

Generally within a few bottle of the old Voddy

After that much voddy they are usually in a puddle on the floor. Not the best time to be making łupy.

that's never been the case with me.

Ha. Can't say I would agree with you on this topic. Southern on the other hand...

Can't wait for EM to chime in with something intelligent about something interracial.

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

Now that's something you'd have to ask someone, isn't it.

Didn't mean to pry, (actually, I kind of did...) but I am interested in Personal Finances. I (with the fantastic support of the better half) do try to avoid unnecessary / unrealistic levels of debt. I was just interested in trying to understand the mindset of why somebody would be asset rich and cash poor. I always found it best to take a balanced approach. A nice stash of cash can go a long way when times are tough, or a financial emergency pops up. Having assets locked up like that can put you in a bind, as you pointed out when you stated:

Another person has one flat which I think is inherited, a very posh buy-to-let with a huge mortgage secured as far as I know partly on the other and an income of about 1.5k. He can hardly afford to eat properly.

What do you think drives them to maintain that kind of position?

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

Average wage, 2 flats and a dzialka.

From your experience, are they carrying mortgages on these properties or are they owned outright through inheritance?

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

One thing about Poland is that a lot of people are asset-rich but cash-poor.

Can you expand on this?

Life / Secrets of Poland - what makes it so special? [13]

Can anyone give me any idea where to start?

This may not be the place to start, but could be one element to include in the event....

Make the toilets pay per use. All monies collected could go towards a charity that your organization supports.

History / Polish Officer in NATO, Col. Ryszard Kukliński. [145]

There is however a universal principal that a soldier does not betray his vow. Ever.

I can see that being moreso true in a volunteer army vs. conscript.

Honest question: What is the selection / vetting process to become an officer in a conscript army?

History / Would you classify the Poland's Communist years as a "Soviet occupation" ? [221]

Precisely: it was not an occupation and that is reflected by the fact that every single government in the world recognised the government in Warsaw as the lawful and legitimate government of Poland.

Quite a choice those governments all faced, actually: Recognize the non-democratically government, or put the combat boots back on, and go for a march to Moscow.

History / Would you classify the Poland's Communist years as a "Soviet occupation" ? [221]

Betrayed? At least in my mind one can only be betrayed by those who own one loyalty and who one trusts. I don't think that either of those apply to the Soviets and Mikolajczyk.

Ah yes a subtle play on words, but I am sure any of the good teachers on here would point out that betrayed can be used as a transitive verb, in the context of being lead astray, of being seduced. And furthermore, in this context it is surely used as a synonym of back stab, double cross, or going back on. But you my dear Harry realized that all the time. :-)
