Off-Topic / PF - The Omnibus Edition [1502]

The global war on misinformation has taken a serious turn for the worse today

Is that why everything went funny there?
Nothing worked, I contemplated doing something else...

Its the same period of time and pretty close design.

Great design for fortification.

Raczyński Liblary Poznań

Strange the way the columns only start about half way up, do you know the reason or was it just the fashion of the day?.

Zamość was founded in the year 1580

The plan of the defensive wall reminds me of the town wall of Nicosia, Cyprus.
Venetian city wall, built between 1567 and 1570:

not polish architecture, but from Poland:

Wow, Relocated from Norway, impressive.

Count Jan Klemens Branicki, Great Crown Hetman and patron of art and science.

Wow again, with a name like that he would need to be rich, imagine the size of his business card :)

'Szlak architektury drewnianej'
There is a 'Wooden Architectural Building trail' here in Małapolska.
Here is the site's link with map in English szlak.wrotamalopolski.pl/EN/?opis=2
There are too many buildings to post on here but i did visit one in Rdzawce yesterday.
Since yesterday, it is completely covered in snow :)

Krakow was the foggiest I have ever seen it today.
Looked magical/mystical to me.
The architecture lends itself well to the atmosphere of this wonderful city.

Love / What do Polish guys think of Irish girls? [187]

I love it, youz are off your headz.
It is interesting how "your truths" come out in the wierdest places,
This thread is about What do Polish guys think of Irish girls?
And youz are on about the Irish feeling sorry for themselves and the IRA?.
Youz need to look at yourselves, seriously.
I am not going to engage these prejudices on an unrelated thread but if youz wish you can start one and tell us all about "The Irish".

-------------------------------

Now back on topic,
I have not come across a Polish guy with an Irish girl but that means very little as I live in Poland and there are not that many Irish girls there well non that I know.

And I will be very general here but I think Irish women are very strong (im not calling polish women weak).
Irish women are great craic!

that retarded irish accent.

I've never been in Ireland, so i just used my imagination.

Not much of an imagination, except for the retarded bit of course.

Yeah, I know it is a bit nasty.
All I can promise is that it will never harm anyone.
I will probably give it to a museum or something, that is if they want it.
I mean what the heck am I gona do with the thing.
Ah sure,
I was just curious when this thread came up,
I had forgotten about the thing before this.

History / Polish weapons and militaria - got any? [153]

I was just googling to see if I could fine when and where the bayonet I have came from.
The first one in this picture looks similar?, what do you think ?.

Or maybe German WWII K98 Bayonet - Wooden grip?

WWII German Army Mauser Rifle.

The little ball thing at the end looks similar.
Probably German from WWII by the looks of it?
I don't really care just curious.

Looks like a polish 1911 mauser bayonet.

Looks to me like a German bayonet

WW2 era Mauser bayonet

Poles did not use 1911 mauser bayonets

Okay, anyone else?.
I would like to know what it is, at least you all agree it is a bayonet, or a bonnet or a bouquet?.
But an approximate age and area would be nice to know, anyone?.

1) 50/50.
2) Phone a friend.

3) Ask PF.

Did he try to give you his wife too?

Naw, he fell backwards unconscious and just lay there, he was locked out of his tree.

That is so cool that you actaully have these .

I got it drunk, in a bar, a guy tried to sell it to me, a big crusty Lithuanian who could barely stand he was so drunk.

I said "what would i want with a knife, I don't want it" so he gave it to me and then proceeded to give me another knife, of no historical significance, said his ex had tried to kill him with it and he wanted rid of it.

He was so drunk I just took them and thanked him, rather I have them than some stranger, if you know what I mean.
Not much of a story but that's how it happened.

This is my favorite Modern building in Krakow.
Set in amongst the older buildings, in side Planty 2 mins walk from the main market square.
Is this: e-architect.co.uk/poland/krakow-information-centre - KRAKOW CITY INFORMATION AND EXHIBITION CENTER
THE PAVILION "WYSPIANSKI 2000"

And just in case you have forgotten, WYSPIANSKI is one of Poland's greatest artists. (but i know you could never do such a thing ;).

Stanisław Wyspiański: "God the Father the Creator" - stained-glass window that can be found adjacent to this THE PAVILION "WYSPIANSKI 2000" in the Franciscian Church in Kraków beside THE PAVILION "WYSPIANSKI 2000"

Also check this thread for new stadiums in Poland. thanks to a very informative poster McCoy.

Yeah,
Well if you find out anything more,
I would be interested to find out more.

Just thinking about it, if it is from 1911, it is the oldest thing here.

The M carved in the blade could mean anything

Yeah fair enough, it could even be a "W".
But that slot on the back, is that to slide it on to the end of the gun?.

I know very little about knives, except which end i prefer to be on.

There is the number "91" on it but that could just be the manufacturers?

Looks like a polish 1911 mauser bayonet.

I did not get it in Poland but in Lithuania.
But you reckon it is from 1911?.
What about the markings?
I know you like to take the mickey but i also know you are interested in this type thing and i wonder which you will go for?

Ok
Give me 10 mins.
I have had too much coffee today and it is too cold to do any more for now.

Ok here it is, I put in a those reular sized candles so you have an idea of scale.
I have not tried to restore it in anyway for fear of messing it up, i keep it oiled and wrapped up in cloth.

Notice the vertical and diagonal scratches on the last photo, it reminds me of that thing when you have killed someone you mark them off but it is probably just fancy.

I have a few more photos of the same knife.

Can anyone tell me anything about it?.
It was given to me and I was told is a bayonet and was from World War one.

If the photos don't work just post something and they will work next time.

oh and its in English text too...

Phew! i would not be able to read a book about Polish Architecture for a long long time.
And thank you for your kind offer.

On the corner. Karmelickiej i Batorego you can find Teodor Talowski's house Kamienica Pod Pająkiem, ( Grand old building under the spider).
I don't know why but this is my favourite building in Krakow.
It is asymmetrical, which normally I dislike but some how it balances itself.
I also like the spiders on the doors and the roof, like a fair tale building.

Thank you Prince,
I personally am very interested in the new echo housing, very interesting designs, using natural and modern material designs with a strong focus on energy consumption and reflecting the landscape.

I would love to build my own house like this :)))
