UK, Ireland / Why do so many Polish guys in the UK have a crew cut or buzz cut? [106]

btw, baldness is a sign of high testosterone....

Actually even average testosterone levels can lead to baldness. It's a particularly weak hair follicle that is knocked for six by testosterone that leads to baldness. The only proven method to stop going bald is castration. I'd rather lose my hair than my nuts as most people. Being bald is supposed to confer high status according to some.

UK, Ireland / 50 babies a day born to Polish mothers in UK [81]

By the bloody way, This '3rd world' London you are speaking of, it does subsidise the rest of the UK and the EU. Much like the '3rd world' commonwealth nations did for four centuries. Not disparaging the workers from elsewhere on the Island.

As for being English/Polish/Black - it's what you are, not what you do.

One of those people who object to the "re-whitening" of the UK, obviously

That's where people see the issue. White, but not de souche like in the danish roman french invasions.

The comment section of the story are interesting. A Jonathan from England wrote -
"This is good news we need more Polish dna in the British gene pool. They will make us more attractive and hardworking."
Made me chuckle.

The vast majority of Polish women that come to the UK are of child-bearing age and Polish are the fastest growing influx. As Midas said, hardly newsworthy. Just the usual crap for the targeted readership that paper has - people over 50 who wish the UK would go back to Pounds, Shillings and Pence types.

UK, Ireland / What do Polish people think about Wales and Welsh people? [191]

I'm Welsh and no we don't like it when you call us sheep shaggers

I call Northerners and Yorkshireman Ferret F'ckers. I'm not quite sure what Londeners/Southerners sexual deviancy is, but when it is clearly untrue it is a mere jibe.

UK, Ireland / ABOUT THE BRITISH NATIONAL INSURANCE NUMBER [22]

i am just asking you know :) there's nothing wrong about it :P

No one's having a go. I would wage there are only an insignificant few who aren't happy for you to be a tax paying contributor to the UK. Isthatu2 is a self-confessed history geek who takes every opportunity to spread his knowledge. He's very generous with his country also, just don't attack his values or you'll never hear the end of it. :)

UK, Ireland / ABOUT THE BRITISH NATIONAL INSURANCE NUMBER [22]

It's only because I'm feebly trying to do a tax return without an accountant this year that I've stumbled on any of this info. Phone 'em tomorrow for a definitive answer. Be nice to them, the dept. might be shutting down soon.

And be careful browsing the web too much on a work PC, they're almost always monitored.

UK, Ireland / ABOUT THE BRITISH NATIONAL INSURANCE NUMBER [22]

so if they are produced in large runs, when is the next date of such production?

I just noticed your interview was in July. That was the last run ever for adults. If your confirmation letter is dated after July you may never receive a card. Call up 0845 915 7006 (have the letter ref and nino to hand) to find out either way.

UK, Ireland / ABOUT THE BRITISH NATIONAL INSURANCE NUMBER [22]

The cards are produced in large runs/batches, not as and when.
Once you have a letter it means you have been added to the system, you're sorted. The number produced is the last step of being added to the system. Make a photocopy if you are worried, to use as proof, if ever needed, with a credit card or other proof of address. The letter is every bit as valid as the card, legally. There isn't a card carrying culture to concern yourself with here. (the card or number is not complete proof of a right to work, just to make sure of traceable pension cont's.)

UK, Ireland / We live in the UK; my husband is not legal in England [47]

That is why I am not going to go to England. I don`t want to be chased like some big game.

A pity. Suitably mounted you would make a fine addition to my collection.

Love / Why Poland and Indian Sub-Continent? [30]

Polish girls are colour blind, to nick the phrase ITU2 once used.

Come on, the only reason they come here is because it offers an cheap, easy way into the EU.

I'm not sure if you are implying the Polish are cheap and easy.
Indians can quite easily get into the EU/UK through marrying 2nd 3rd generation Indians in the UK. I've always thought of Indians having arranged marriages, possibly they are ducking their parents choices for them.

In case you haven't noticed, des essientes ( and why should you ) after years and years of leniency UK is cracking down on non-EU immigration.

Your wishful thinking. Cameron was over in India last year regarding opening India up for UK company investment. India complained UK weren't taking on enough of their excess graduates...

There's a billion of them there Indians. I doubt the oddities that post here are indicative of a new craze sweeping India for slavic merges. One of your examples is Turkish. The other one sounds more unstable than looking for a foot-in.

Probably enforced slavery on a traveller camp.

Appears the satirists are all out today.

Law / Why is US $ getting so high or Polish zloty falling? [60]

I read somewhere that France was the biggest investor in Poland

I reasonably certain Germany is well out in front(esp. car manufacturers such as vw) with GB in second place with more coming in with shale gas exploration). US I vaguely recall as being the fastest growing investor(IT). On stocks it's very difficult to calculate as investors move money from one country to another, their not true investors in that it's indirect interest in profit not jobs, infrastructure, etc. Zloty in the global picture is thought of as an exotic currency. I have noticed in recent times manufacturing and other key indicators make BloombergUS news which tells one something just by now being newsworthy. With the interst rates of Poland's banks the way they are they're likly making very high returns for themselves reinvesting into the Polish stock market and buying cheap, due to exchange rates, into foreign stock markets. No evidence to offer but generally the strong currency such as chf will buy into the stocks of a weak currency. Due to the 'exotic' nature of Zloty the info is not readily available to me. You'll find it faster in the Polish language. The polish wikipedia site may be more helpful and wbj.com has good detail coverage, I'm sure I've seen investment by Nation tables there somewhere.

Law / Why is US $ getting so high or Polish zloty falling? [60]

I am wondering why is zlotay falling down and $ getting high?is it polish economy as for usa the economy aint good currently with no jobs and no real estate market?

lol,I am a small time trader in $ and pln market do you think $ will go up?

If you're asking such question here, I think you're going down. Not even mentioning your timeframe indicates your cluelessness. Any half decent retail trader knows the Zloty leans on the euro and the euro's sinking the past two weeks,so....

The tail doesn't wag the dog. Polands economy while healthy is insignificant to the US.
Play the lottery or go bet on sports. Traders never suffer fools.

News / Polish Students Striking in Lithuania [80]

Why should lithuanian kids be taught in Polish in Lithuania? If they are Polish why dont they move to Poland? Im sure there is room with all the Polish people that still live around here, and whose kids go to school and speak English, being in England.

After decades of scrubbing out racism in the UK our allowance of separating school children by creed was a step back from integration. having Polish as a first language in Lithuania will reduce social mobility unless Lith's want them kept down or to gtfb to Poland it's a bad move, the government are right not to allow it. The Polish parents are slitting their own kids throats by demanding this.
