Law / List of banks from Poland offering free ATM withdrawals and spending worldwide? [12]

I don't know how much of a representation they have in Poland, but banks in Global ATM Alliance do not charge ATM fees.

Global ATM Alliance:

Bank of America (USA)
BNP Paribas (France)
BNL Banca Nazionale Del Lavoro (Italy)
Barclays United Kingdom (England)
Deutsche Bank (Germany)
Scotiabank (Canada and the Caribbean)
Westpac Bank (Australia and New Zealand)

Language / Polish word WONT - as in "go away" [6]

Your father's family is probably from eastern Poland

Yes, my father's family got the hell out of Wołyń between WWI and WWII. They moved to outskirts of Warsaw.

Language / Polish word WONT - as in "go away" [6]

I found it!
It's "won" not "wont".

Edit - thanks, Paulina, I was so busy looking, I didn't see your reply. Russian source, that's helpful, too.

Language / Polish word WONT - as in "go away" [6]

Is it really a Polish word? It was used by my father's family, and I was wondering what is its etymology.

UK, Ireland / Finding ingredients for traditional British Xmas dinner in Poland? [21]

From what I observed in the US, the Christmas day dinner does not have any particular traditional dishes, unless someone sticks to their own ethnic customs. Usually though it's an over the top feast with as many main meat dishes as the hosts can jam the table with, like ham, roast beef and pork... if any poultry is served it's usually not turkey, as everyone is all turkey'd out from recent Thanksgiving; I've seen chicken, duck or geese.

Food / Golabki - Oven or Stove top [11]

Maybe my family's recipes came from the times when amount of meat available for stuffing would make too few golabki. ;)
Regardless, I tried them without rice since, and I found the mass of meat inside too dense. Rice lightens it up. And sauteed onions is a must for me.

Food / Golabki - Oven or Stove top [11]

I swear by my pressure cooker - szybkowar.
Cook rice first, but I use a little less water than usual. Lot of sauteed onions, and both ground beef and pork for stuffing.

UK, Ireland / Why can't unemployed Polish people on benefits just leave UK and go home please? [240]

On an off-chance that the OP's question is not trolling, here are few possibilities for an answer to "Why can't unemployed Polish people on benefits just go home please?".

* because they think that even without the job, they're still better off in UK,
* or, they are ashamed or have no prospects back home
* or they like UK better,
* or they hope that things will turn around and they'll get a job eventually

Life / Uptight Poles [262]

bus or on a train, as happened yesterday, do Poles insist on playing crappy Eurotrash music

I think this has more to do with the age of those blasting the music. Up to a certain age, the youths everywhere think that if you just listened to their music, you'll love it as much as they do. Nothing to do with being Polish, as much as you'd like to think.

Life / "You are 100 years behind Blacks" - this old Polish saying [29]

I don't listen to Rap, sag my pants to reveal my underwear or constantly use curse words. That's enough for me

Well, as long as your clothing is KKK approved, you MUST be a productive member of society!
What a fool.

Life / "You are 100 years behind Blacks" - this old Polish saying [29]

Nobody ever heard this saying, which is just a thinly veiled excuse for this unwell individual to start another racist thread.

I'm really surprised that while the moderators are busy moving piddly posts from one bucket to another, they seem totally unable to take a stand on bigoted, racist, hate filled, and deeply disturbing posters that are allowed to congregate here, giving Poland and polishforum a truly bad name.

Wake up! Rybak? Are you really a moderator here? You really want your name associated with this vile trash?

Law / we are thinking to open asian bistro/ take away in wroclaw [13]

So you don't consider garlic or mustard as being spicy?

not really, not according to Asian standards. I can't even find them on Scoville scale heat ratings, even though both horseradish and raw garlic do contain Capsaicin.

Related:

I'm thinking to open a Bar, Night Club in Wroclaw

I'm a Brazilian guy living in London and after I been to Poland around 70 times ( Wroclaw, krakow,Gdynia, gdansk ,katowvice etc etc ) I thinking to open a pub ,bar ,club with Latino theme

I real like Poland and I hate England , after I been here 12 years I'm sick of this place , I need to leave

I was wondering if with around 60.000£ I could open a small cosy bar in Wroclaw ?

I have good ideas from bars from Brasil and I think could work over there

Any thought?

Cheers

They do, what about mustard and garlic, they like it spicy : )

Ryzu, the fact that you consider those spicy is all the proof we need ;)

That said, tastes change. Lately, even I started developing the taste for Sriracha sauce.

Love / Do Polish guys not like kissing very much? [5]

oh, moonface, you might have that special breed of a man that does not play around.. ;)
A guy that does not display affection, or is not "touchy-feely" could be "mis-diagnosed" as cold, but he might be just the opposite, over-sensitive, if you know what I mean.

Or he might be damaged.
Or anything in between.
You figure it out.

Work / 3500 PLN gross - not happy with my salary (working in Warsaw for an international company) [55]

if you work for a company for a while, the routine raises do not add up to the salaries offered to incoming hires at your level.

I left a company I liked, then I came back two years later at almost double the salary.
So look around, and ff you find something that pays more, make sure you let the current company know that you cannot survive on their salary and leave on good terms.
