Is that because you don't expect to get laid, southern? ;0

UK, Ireland / Are you Poles proud of your country? Then why do you keep coming to Britain? [100]

They do get more but that is likely offset by the cost of living, flights back home from time to time and the natural desire to be more lavish away from home and with more disposable income.

I mean any uprooting of a child when you put them into a school system without a settled intention to stay there.

Statistics are freely available if you are interested.

You live only to gather coloured paper? It shows their materialism. Are you a proud materialist, grubas? Why abandon your family for a dismal life that only brings you some money?

Family life, being with those that speak your own language, building from within and enjoying your own culture. Enough?

News / Don't let Poland become like my country, France. [630]

If it is done correctly, it will be efficacious and of benefit to many.

International students often add a nice new flavour to life here. They can then enter into constructive partnerships with firms and bring their own perspectives with them.

Yes but they can do the background checks needed to get the lowdown on some individuals.

I was saying that if Poland changed to be that way. Creating the conditions which attract some undesirables is in the interests of almost no-one here.

It is highly visible, that was my point.

A filtering process is not too much to ask for in this day and age whereby everything is computerised. As you will no doubt agree, £ódź, Poland cannot tar too many groups with the same brush. You might say any group but there are those that would upset the balance here in Poland. The authorities should exercise care in the admission process.

I had that partly in mind, £ódź, but I was thinking more generally in terms of warm, open arms. Yeah, Poland has to accept the bad with the good but they shouldn't shoot themselves in the foot.

No, I mean that a certain type are very focussed on their own and don't have the capacity to get beyond that.

The problem, as history has shown us, is that once you set off down a certain road, it can be hard to reverse. Poland is really ethnocentric and you can feel it quite strongly at times, esp in conservative areas. A visible rise in the number of foreigners living in certain parts would raise alarm bells. Poland has to be aware of offering too much charity. Enticing the wrong type of people here would be catastrophic.

I'm not into this cheap labour idea at all. You should do your best to train up your locals to do what is needed in your economy and forget about taking in Africans just because they happen to be cheaper.

Tomasz Lis with some suggestions. The interview is old, though. 100 mins of talking. Mods, sorry that it's in Polish. It's worth listening to in parts and he uses some English :)

Life / Uptight Poles [262]

It's great being in amongst some older Poles in a big garden. They are so laid back and are happy to let the world go by. They are far from uptight, esp after some lovely Polish krupnik vodka. It's brilliant to see such people not being uptight and enjoying the abundant food, drink and nature around them. Poland has a lot of that!!

Life / Struggling young Polish couple - try to solve their problem [176]

I have an imagination and a sense of scale. There is always sb worse off than yourself. Polish struggles need to be put into perspective. If we are to believe that humans are born equal then why should one group moan when they have it better than another?

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

Some people give others cause to crack jokes. There is nothing new in this and, simply put, it stems from contact.

Many don't have the staying power to last the course on that one, warsz. Be realistic, please.

Precisely, WB. She is in NO place to understand the realities of life in places like Rostocza here. An armchair commentator with no experience in how bad things really get. Polish couples can work things out but some folk in poor areas are left to their own devices.

Life / Who is poor in Poland? [720]

I-S, as always, we have different Poles in mind and it all depends who we are talking about. It's as simple as that!
