News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

Greece are constantly stressing that they don't want a common European border guard

A common European currency has been the biggest disaster for Greece since WWII. I understand their hesitation.

everyone is agreed that the external Schengen border should be well defended, and the current situation with 26 different border guards is a mess

Why?

we have considerable resources tied up in securing the border in Bieszczady, yet it would make much more sense for those forces to be used to patrol the sea border between Greece and Turkey

The smugglers are pro-active, reduce the watch in Bieszczady and that means they'll be pouring in there before you know it.

The one thing that seems to really work (AFAICT which might not be too far) is a local population that is intensely.... unwelcoming (like Bulgaria)

the huge problems that are crippling Africa, the Middle East, parts of Asia and Central/ South America

90% of which are self-inflicted

the only thing that will stop them is a nuke

well hopefully it won't get to that point, but I've long said the only thing that will stop a flood of people is force (which Europe on the whole is incapable of).

1m-african-migrants-may-be-en-route-to-europe

Like I said, Africans have a terrible work record in Europe (and in Africa, to be frank). Who thinks their arrival would be anything but a disaster?

6 million immigrants sounds about right

Why? Automation is going to be decimating jobs sooner rather than later and Europe is already over-crowded. The new economic challenge of the 21st century will be figuring out how to keep an economy going with a smaller population.

the locals simply don't want to do the work

...for the wages offered. Immigration in most places and most times are a weapon by employers to keep wages as artificially low as possible.

And the source of most of the immigration that Soros and co wanted already have a labor track record in Europe - and it's effin' awful!

stay forever in opposition

Why is keeping any particular non-superradical political side "forever in opposition" supposed to be a good outcome?

Europe is dominated by the German economy for some time already

Europe will always be dominated by the German economy, the size, work ethic and educational and social capital ensure that. Merkel did her bit to sabotage Germany primacy by inviting (meatphorically) hundreds of thousands of scroungers with no social or educational capital but that won't be enough.

Getting rid of the Euro would be a start, but the hubris of its creators prevents that (minus a jubilee type solution).

NO HELP from Merkel, Hollande

To be honest, at this stage help form Merkel is worse than outright hostility (since she wants to do to other countries what she's done to her own).

And Hollande has what? single digit approval?

I wish it weren't necessary but Brexit could be the wake up call the EU needs to get its house in order to avoid complete collapse. Instead the EU elite are posturing and alienating everyone in sight.

I give the EU two years (unless drastic changes happen). I wish that weren't the case, but....

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

In retrospect maybe full membership for the UK was maybe never the best option (and the country always seemed to have one foot out the door).

Most tellingly, the pro-Stayers couldn't really come up with any emotional arguments for staying that reached many people, it was all rational economic stuff that has proven itself time and time again to be incapable of swaying voters.

If 40 or so years of membership wasn't enough to convince enough to convince a large majority that continued membership is a good idea... then maybe it was never a good idea to begin with (like dragging southern economies like Portugal and Greece into a currency tailored for large northern economies).

Bad policy based on wishful thinking (like the Euro) will usually end in tears, it's just a question of whose.

Study / MS Finance vs MBA vs MFE in Poland? [13]

Dominic will be along to advise you.

Yes, poor thing. It's like one of those nature shows where a leopard sites a wounded gnu.... Not pretty, but it's all part of Mother Nature's plan.

Language / Polish - Absolute Beginner Questions. Study plan. [75]

First there is no such thing as learning or studying Polish "easily" unless your first language is another Slavic language.

Your first language and any foreign languages you know and your learning style all have to be taken into consideration.

What are your languages (native and learned) and how do you learn things? (are you more analytic? intuitive? can you make inference or do you want everything to be explicit?

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

You only need to take a look at the problems caused by Tunisians/Algerians in France

Back when W was first planning to invade Iraq I kept trying to point out that there were far better ways of instigating needed changes into the stagnant and repressively traditional Middle East. I used to point out Tunisia, in particular, as a country that could really flower with some strategic help (strenghtening secularism and pro-westernism). Of course that never happened and the Saudis have been befouling it with their nasty primitive version of Islam and now it's one of the prime providers of jihadi cannon fodder.

I don't remember which country it was (Sri Lanka?), but there was a case not so long ago of Buddhist fundamentalists killing Muslims

More likely Burma, but at present Islam is winning the crazy religious terrorist sweepstakes (easily producing more than all other religions combined). That hasn't always been the case and it might not always be the case but it is indisputably the case at present and all the hemming and hawing and making excuses won't change that.

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

The madmen who attack London, Paris Berlin and all the rest are not real Muslims.

Where is your degree in muslim theology, panie imamie, to declare who is and isn't a "real" muslim?

By this logic somewhere between 20-40 % of self-proclaimed muslims are not "real".

32% refuse to condemn those who take part in violence against those who mock the Prophet

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

There is no valid comparison to be made between the present Islamic terror campaign and the troubles in Northern Ireland

But.... but.... if they can't make false equivalencies, then they might find themselves subject to Thoughtcrime such as "Muslim immigration to Europe is not an unalloyed good" or "the problem of muslim religious based violence in Europe is getting worse, not better".

Much easier, for their mental health, to try to find "They did it too!" arguments.

mad men who claim to be Muslims

Tiresome old line, impresses no one now.

mad men who claimed to be Catholics

Actually they claimed to be Irish, do you dispure that?

This tedious lie about how terror isn't Islamic - I DON'T CARE!

Muslims are producing more terrorists at present than all other groups combined and I'm sick of it and they need to either get their house in order or stop playing the victim card when one of the faithful gets all explody or crashy.

Ooooh, I feel and excuse comin' on, bud!

I don't remember saying anything that would prompt that question, but if you really, really, really wanna know... No, I don't think all human life is especially valuable.

For instance, the life of the Westminster attack (after the attack) was of negative value. I only hope he died in pain either feeling the first flames of hell or the gaping maw of godless infinity, whichever would have caused him more trauma.

The value of the life of any of his victims was far, far, far higher than his at that point.

News / Good-change government raising minimum wage in Poland, cutting SB pensions [213]

deride Poland's strategist supreme

You mean the one that embarrassed the country in front of the EU (alienating even Poland's closest allies?)

the most powerful and influential person in Poland

he's a backbencher! There's no way he should have the power and influence he does with no formal responsibility, it reeks of the PRL!

while maintaining civil relations with Russia.

he'd sell out Poland in a minute if it meant job security for himself.

the Czechs Germanized their alphabet

I'm not sure how changes from cz to č and sz š to can be described as "Germanized"... do Germans eat fiš? and say čüss or live Dojčland?

Real Estate / Buying apartment in Poland - Kitchen / bathroom [3]

It's the normal practice. Some years ago they tried selling apartments with bathrooms and kitchens (and maybe flooring too) already installed (pod klucz) and the reaction.... was not positive. Polish buyers seem to like making decisions about kitchen and bathroom and flooring for themselves.

I just checked and you can find apartments ready to move into (again look for the term 'pod klucz') but you'll have to do some looking.

article in Polish about the phenomenon...

I'm for it. He understands the need for financial responsibility

But isn't he in favor of the ridiculous regional airport boondoggle? With Chopin and Modlin running well below capacity he wants to build a giant new airport? Where is the sense of that?

News / 60% of Poles say Szydło's government should resign [238]

It's too bad. She's not a bad strategist herself (see the elections she won by keeping JK and company in a refrigerator). It would have been interesting to see what kind of real prime minister she would be had she been in charge of the government rather than the sad puppet she's become...
