USA, Canada / PolAms -- do you regard yourselves only as 'white Americans'? [187]

That's Delphiodomine's main motive for splitting hairs on the definition of who is Polish or from Poland.

It's not about splitting hair, MediaWatch. If you are serious about genealogy, you'll have to stick to historical facts and avoid wishful thinking.

USA, Canada / PolAms -- do you regard yourselves only as 'white Americans'? [187]

why is the old town at the time of 1900-1910ish covered in "German" businesses

The question whether Posen was primarily German or Polish is actually quite easy to answer. All you need to do is to download old address books or census records of Posen from before WW1 (they are available online in Polish archives) and take a closer look at them. The results speak for themselves.

Just getting even for what Germans did in WWII in Russia and not only there...

I said this on PF before: don't call someone an animal if you behave like one yourself.

So was the Sudetenland in 1938 and then the rest of Bohemia and Moravia later on.

So was Silesia, Pomerania and East Prussia after the end of WW2... . You missed my point. I wasn't talking about whether an annexation is just or not.

polish territories were OCCUPIED by foreign forces.

Wrong. There was NO Polish territory to occupy because the country of Poland didn't exist. The ethnic Poles who had been living in these annexed areas became Prussian, Russian or Austro-Hungarian citizens. Should we see western Poland as occupied German territory, or is it Polish now because Poland was allowed to annex it after WW2? You can't have it both ways.

How far would you go back? Do that for a couple of generations (both father's and mother's side), and you might end up being an Irish-German-British-Polish-Russian-French-Dutch-Belgian-Martian American. This whole ethnicity concept is completely BS if you think about it.

The only things that make you Polish are your parents and the culture in which you grow up. A Polish baby that is raised by German parents in Germany will automatically become a German. A German baby raised by Polish parents in Poland will automatically become a Pole. There is no such thing as "Polish blood".

News / Anger after Poland left out of EU ambassador team [38]

But the only way for the union to work is to acknowledge every country and give it a fair share population wise

Okay then, since Germany has by far the biggest population in the EU...

Law / Investors/Entrepreneurs.. Steer Clear of Poland. [77]

Now you can fire them. You're paying on the high side of the market rate, you can be picky.

In the current job market, I can be both picky and not paying high wages at the same time.

After a while he will start complaining that he is not compensated sufficiently for all the work he's doing for you. Guaranteed...

PS: sorry for the edit of my previous post.

8-9zl? And you expect people to actually work hard for that? The minimum to motive people in a city in Poland is at least 12zl an hour - otherwise, forget about it.

Nowhere on earth are people working harder just because they earn more per hour. That's a fairytale.

News / Poland's elite more pro-US than society? [29]

The American presence will create more of a balance in the sense that German a'ssholes and Russians will not be dictating everything.

Sure, they will sell Poland some crappy toys (read: weapons) and drop her like a hot potato whenever it suits them. Poland wouldn't be the first country to receive that "special treatment", so she'd better stay close to her partners in the EU instead.

Genealogy / Re: Marska family connections [14]

I would read the text on the the image as "Julia Muska/ Klein. Cousin of father from Jaroslawa (?). Grandmothers side. Dead 1977".

History / WWII - who really was the first to help Poland? [900]

Just imagine that both the UK and France would've ignored the hostile actions of Germany and the USSR against Poland. Do you really think that Poland would've survived as a country? I have my doubts.

News / Prediction: Poland to be World Superpower in XXI century [147]

but will be placed higher when other major powers begin to lose their prowess and standing

Which of course won't happen because Poland will go down together with those major powers. Poland is not an isolated country.

Genealogy / Can't find on Ellis, not naturalized, never applied for SS, how can I trace him? [7]

Search the Death Records databases. There are plenty of web sites offering an interface to those collections. If you can't find him there: do you know in which town he lived? Then you might be able to locate his grave on the local cemetery and get his birth date (and maybe even place). Parish registers should also be available.

PS: your grandmother's family didn't come from Poland, as such a state didn't exist in 1908.
