Work / Why Poland employers are afraid of hiring any foreign nationals? [171]

male babysitter not getting hired and other bs

Mind my visionary words (for the record, I am first): soon, in the idiot lands like Canada, it will be a felony to refuse to hire a convicted child rapist as a babysitter. The legal reason: it would discriminate against a person who raped only teenagers and the baby is just 2, what's the problem since it won't fit.

I want this prophecy recorded somewhere.

Fear nothing. It's only in my dreams that run into a wall aka wife. I couldn't get her to come with me even for a couple of weeks just to visit. Moving back? No way.

But I still like my Polish passport. I guess it's some kind of sick nostalgia I can't shake off.

but you have a right not to be discriminated because of your race,

I am glad you don't like affirmative action.

but you have a right not to be discriminated because of .....religion

Until, they make demands based on their religion. Like Muslims when they want special places where they can pray and wash their feet.

It`s against human rights.

I didn't know you have a right to a job.
How about this: if X can hire Y because he likes Y, X can fire Y because X no longer likes Y.
If hiring didn't require a justification, firing shouldn't need one either.

News / Poland blocks any action on climate change [569]

Climate change has become reality and not only statistics.

What is "climate"? Is one hot summer in Poland "climate change"? How about two hot summers? Did two hot summers happen in the last 1000 years in Poland?

And what do we do about it while China, India and every underdeveloped sh*thole are free to pollute forever? Yes, forever, because once they get an exemption they will never give it up.

Language / So why did you give up learning Polish? [105]

You got no soul, Rich...diminutives in Polish are extremely expressive

...and used 99% by old women with just two front teeth.
I put a full stop to the baby talk soon after my first kid was born. And that was in English. No Polish grandma would ever be allowed to pollute them with that diminutive crap. And guess what...Both turned out just fine.

Speaking straight in full, clear sentences is how I show respect to others. That takes the burden of decoding Rich's cute words, phrases and other idiosyncrasies out.

I also do not strive to use the bottom-of-the-barrel, once-per-decade synonyms English professors like to show off with. Even here.

And English doesn't have those sick Polish verbal tumors that only old women can create. Like: noga, nozka, nozeczka, nozenka, nunia. Or: twarz, buzia, buzienka, buziuchna...Sick.

Don't bother telling me that my Polish spelling sucks because that makes me feel even better. I mean that I am purging it from my life, but not fast enough.

it would still be wrong because you followed up with, " If you can't, you are deaf".

You were correct and I was wrong.
Now, you can frame the above sentence because it's the first time in the history of this forum. Notice that I didn't follow the above admission with a but..or on the other hand...or however as typical weasel phrases. Instead, I promise to do my best not to create further evidence that I am not perfect.

As I said yesterday

Say "she" and "he" and see the difference.

If you can "say", I can "see". To help you better understand my posts, here are the synonyms of see, with those that do not involve eyes in bold type.

see (synonyms): behold, catch, descry, discern, distinguish, espy, eye, look (at), note, notice, observe, perceive, regard, remark, sight, spot, spy, view, witness

You really need to re evaluate your opinions, because they are blatantly wrong, or shut up.

I can be wrong only on facts. Opinions are never wrong. In my post #73, I used the word "liked" 9 f*cking times and you are telling me that I am wrong??? The word liked is about personal OPINIONS, not verifiable FACTS, and, thus, not open to a debate. Opinions would be open to a debate only if one side claimed that their opinions are correct. I never claimed that my opinions are correct and yours are not.

You're right, you're being unthinkingly ethnocentric, not to mention just plain wrongheaded!

How about debating the subject of languages without getting personal? Are you out of the debate ammo? Why does everybody fall into this MO eventually?

Of course, English is number one. If the headcount were a factor, the pilots and the towers all over the world would be speaking Chinese. I haven't been there, so I am asking: In what language does the UN General Assembly conduct its daily business? What about the signs like STOP or AMBULANCE? Are they in Spanish in Israel or Saudi Arabia or in English? What about the signs you see at the airports everywhere, Japan and China included? Are those in Russian?

"pronoun drop" ...meaning the pronoun can be omitted, except for emphasis. This can be confusing at times.

My point to the letter. I don't like any language with dropped pronouns because I don't like confusion. Polish included.

My "beef" in not with the Polish language. It's with the Polish people who believe or pretend that being Polish is some gift from heavens bestowed on the very best and that their language is wonderful and special.

Their "beef" with me is that I discovered all of the above to be nothing but patriotic lies and dared to say it out loud.

No, I didn't like Poland, I didn't like Poles, I didn't like Polish language, I didn't like the fattening Polish food, I didn't like two-month-long summers, I didn't like my lousy pay, I didn't like small apartments with the washer and dryer stacked vertically. I don't even like the way the Polish consulate operates here in Chicago. An average police station here is friendlier.

I don't recall what I liked in Poland, so I left. No, Poland is not the center of the universe.

There absolutely nothing wrong with the French refusing to speak any language other than their own. Don't like it? Stay the hell away.

...nowhere. Say "she" and "he" and see the difference. If you can't, you are deaf.

And, then, there is the sentence structure. In the English version, it's noun and verb. In that order. In the Polish version: no noun. It's implied. Use "ty" and be ready to apologize.

I don't need this crap. It's all yours. Enjoy it.

I would expect a non-native to possibly have contempt for the Polish language

You are confusing contempt with not liking. You did meet the people you never wanted to meet again, didn't you?. Did you feel contempt? Of course, not.

Entry to university depends not only on knowledge of your chosen subject, but on competency in your native language.

Competency - yes. Fluency - no. They would admit those with speech impediments or outright mute. Not to be teachers, of course, but engineers. I graduated from Wydzial Lacznosci. Nobody ever expected me to be fluent in Polish or like it. I remember a student from Bulgaria with barely any Polish and she did just fine.

Not getting the hang of that terrible language doesn't exactly cut the mustard does it?

It does. Just like skating. Not falling on your ass is one thing; triple jumps is another. I was somewhere in between in Polish. Enough to get by, not enough to enjoy it.

OK, mafketis, here is your free gift from me. I mean that "ass" thing. Go for it, since you are not inclined to make any comments about my posts that do not involve this body part.

trashing or taking a thread off topic, could lead to a suspension

Otherwise you keep making them not even knowing it.

That's why I avoid immigrants like a plague. Natives are good to be around - you listen to them and adjust.
Unless you are an Oriental. Or have a marketable shtick like Ahhrnold.

"as a child learns without second-language interference as much as humanly possible,"

That's why I banned Polish when my first kid was born. Good daddy.

Oh, God, please help them.
One more time: that single letter "a" at the end of "powiedzial" can easily be missed in writing, reading, or hearing. "She" cannot. Duh!

The main difference is not brevity but clarity. "powiedziala mi" is shorter than "she told me", but I will take the latter any time because it's clearer who told me. It was "she", not he.

The who and the gender identifier in the Polish version is that single letter "a". In the English version, it's the noun - up front and in your face - "she". Can't miss it - written or spoken.

English -1. Polish - 0.

I wanted to be a lawyer. Lawyers are trained to argue A on Monday and the exact opposite on Tuesday and still be admired if they win. No, it's not hypocrisy. It's the ultimate in professionalism.

Meeting minimum specs is one thing. I did that at the WUT and elsewhere. But I still didn't like the language. I would stutter. The sentences were not flowing. I hated all those exceptions, grammar, and spelling. Those szcz sounds would make me literally sick.

Here, I love English so much it's hard for me to shut up. I even wrote a book just to enjoy the fact that I can. The few reviews I got were critical of my opinions, but not of my ability to write in plain and reasonably good English. So, there.

I went through a few years of trying to ...speak Polish ...but now I've given up

A man has to know his limitations. You do and I am proud of you.
As I said, Polish should be phased out just as we did the black rotary phones and are now phasing out land lines.

Hey, non-Polish speaking failures, don't feel bad. I spent the first 24 years of my life in Poland and couldn't quite get the hang of that terrible language. So I left for where it was not required.

Language / So why did you give up learning Polish? [105]

Shouldn't that be "Do you speak English?"

You are correct. I will go back to the local Walmart where met them and ask the same question again. This time, with capital "D".

You were extremely lucky then, running only into Poles who speak English.

No luck involved. Just selecting the twenty-somethings.

Come on, give them some time for integration and aculturation.

That would be possible if we were dealing with one finite shipment of sewer. The reality is that the supply of the Latino sewer is infinity.

I didn't mention Asians, as I avoid them like a plague. Rude, pushy, zero sense of humor, and they bring their fossilized parents who would commit suicide rather than switch to English. Ugly, too.

Language / So why did you give up learning Polish? [105]

Seriously, why would a perfectly fluent English speaker want to be a primitive non-English grunt maker? Every time I spoke English in Poland, the locals were actually proud to use theirs - well and without hesitation. I could tell that from their attitudes and no special desire to end the conversation ASAP. I was really pleasantly surprised to the point that I quit asking if they speak English. The younger ones would give me that duh look I would get if I asked them if they speak Polish.

On the other hand, here, in Mexico, temporarily known as the United States, I routinely ask "do you speak English". Something really bad is happening in "America".

AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN, DUDE!

You are making my point! That is why I avoid them like I avoid stepping into a dog sh*t. I only want to be near those who can catch what I say, appreciate my brilliance and laugh when it's funny. The last thing I want to hear is: What did you say? Or some generic grunt pretending to be an intelligent reaction.

Once you are fluent in English, learning another language makes as much sense as looking for a financial advisor when you have a billion.

Love / I want my Polish gf to live with me but she says life here is too hard [31]

The reason why I like you, pawian, is because you are exactly what I am not: a nice and trusting gentleman. Almost charmingly naive. That was about you, not me. No, it was not a left-handed compliment. The world could not exist without your kind and would be hell with just mine.

Quoting from bbc.com:
Over the past 20 years, only 2-10% of rape accusations (Prof Ford's lawyer says she believes this was attempted rape) are proven to be fake, argue the authors of a 2010 US study.

and this:
Other studies have figures in the same range. The FBI has put the number of "unfounded" rapes - those determined to be false after investigation - at 8%.

Notice the words in italics: are proven and after investigation. These cases reached the level where a time-consuming investigation was conducted. It took money and many people to do it. And still produced that 8% rate of proven lies. BTW, would you like to be in that 8%?

Now, here is my point: if 8% are proven by investigations to be blatant lies - false sounds a lot nicer, doesn't it? - how many allegations were never investigated, but ruined men's reputations, careers, ability to earn money, drove them into depression and ultimately suicide? 16%? How about 32%

But that's not the worst of it. To the present crap that "women must always be believed", the feminazis demand and get full immunity from prosecution of the lying bi*ches. When was it last time a lying scum served time for lying to the police and everybody else?

When I hear this whiny crap how she was raped by her boyfriend for ten long years - no kids - my middle finger is the only response.

Love / I want my Polish gf to live with me but she says life here is too hard [31]

I am addicted to the crime reality shows so I know. After a woman finally admits to killing her guy, the very next sentence out of the bi&ch is always the same: He abused me. Did you call 911? No. I was too scared. Did you tell any of your friends? No, I was too ashamed. Did you take pictures of your bruises? No, I don't have a smartphone.

I made up the last one.

Besides, it takes only 100 bucks to be on a bus to the other end of the country and away from the bum.
How many more times would you let somebody beat you up before you would run for the door after the first time? How about zero?
