Here they say that basic work should be finished in 2015 whatever that means. plk-sa.pl/biuro-prasowe/informacje-prasowe/modernizacja-linii-kolejowej-warszawa-bialystok-krotsza-o-10-miesiecy-2617
Roger, if you have ever used Polish trains you would know that except of few lines they go around 80km/h so 160 is big upgrade. The article says that 2nd stage of the renovation is to prepare for trains going 200km/h and that is enough to compete with car transport
For prices check here: numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=Vietnam&city1=Ho+Chi+Minh+City&country2=Poland&city2=Bialystok&displayCurrency=EUR
Vietnamese are the biggest Asian immigrants group in Poland. Now basically every city above 50 000 people has Vietnamese shops, usually selling cheap Chinese import.
Trains don't go between Warsaw and Bialystok for at least 1 year more. They're upgrading the line to 160km/h.
Doing MBA in unknown school is a waste of time. Do in one of those: rankings.ft.com/businessschoolrankings/european-business-school-rankings-2014 There are even 2 from Poland: Kozminski University and Warsaw School of Economics
You must have known that buying a promise is risky.
I almost did not purchase in Poland, after reading about Developers doing runners
The change of law which you probably mean applied to constructions started AFTER the law was introduced, so perhaps yours was not covered.
it came to my attention that property in Poland is highly over rated.
What a ********. Value of a property depends on supply and demand only and not what people think is the right price.
That's something special to £ódź, not whole Poland.
You don't have to pay it if you intend buy another property in 2 years from selling the 1st one. State doesn't want to subsidy traders.
Only too find, that owning property abroad invalidates receiving any help from the state as its seen as capital and needs to be sold first and the money used before any benefits can be received.
That seems logical.
Luckily my wife got some work a WHOPPING 2000pzl for a family
Were you surprised about it? Nobody told you that most of people in Poland earn around 2000pln net per month?
using your own car = NOT WORTH MY TIME or ANYONE, this crap is for hippies who are traveling the world and need to pay for weed!
WTF?
We started advertising the apartment with a agent. 6 Months later NO ONE HAS EVEN VIEWED THE PLACE!
Didn't you know before investing in £ódź, that there is oversupply of apartments and the cheapest rent prices from all cities over 400000 people in Poland? In such conditions it cannot be easy to find a buyer or a good tenant.
"THESE ARE ONLY JOBS FOR POLISH"
What's so strange about company wanting to employ people who speak Polish? And in Poland it's basically synonymous (Polish and speaking Polish), as very little foreigners know the language. Moreover when you search for a job in profession with bigger unemployment, where employers have big choice of workers, they may choose Polish because of tribal patriotism.
Then there is the problem with the way we look, don't be fooled they know your a foreigner.
That's why I don't recommend immigrating to Poland for people who look different.
I want out! I came to do some good an all you get is the middle finger.. rich foreigners TAKE TAKE TAKE
How buying a property is something good? You wanted to earn money.
they want you to think that their reality is poor uneducated people don't get jobs
Why do you think so? All articles in press say that there is plenty of graduates being unemployed or working below their qualification in Poland.
Reality is you dont have to teach English here there are plenty companies who are required to speak English only in Poland
Again why are you surprised that locals have priority before foreigners, especially in the city with one of the highest unemployment rates:
Why do you think so many Poles emigrated from Poland. You're not the only one who cannot find a job. Recruiters may think that you will not be motivated getting Polish salary since normal levels are much higher for you. Better employ a Pole.
foreigners DO NOT GET JOBS IN POLAND
There is no tradition of employing foreigners in Poland and unemployment is relatively high. See how it will look if (ever) unemployment drops below 6%.
So where am I now, trying to get OUT, but with the UK so full its difficult,
There is no such thing as full. There is only supply and demand.
making polish friends is nearly impossible
Foreigners may seem temporarily leaving in given place and people may not want to befriend with somebody who is there just for a moment.
Marriage in runes, career in runes, finances in runes, family in runes, fearing for your life, life saving depleted, inheritance depleted, health depleted
I am sorry for you, but you made few mistakes. You moved to Poland with all your legs without trying it first for a little bit. You chose to move to quite bad city. I wouldn't like to move to £ódź. Many people think about this scene of a comedy movie, when thinking about £ódź:
And you trusted investor instead of buying finished apartment.
There are 2000 British expats living in working in Poland IF this number is true then it is low indeed.
Few months ago I think somebody quoted here 10 x bigger number.
In reality theres a 100 years of crap to fix and it needs more time.
Rather 20 - 30, depending on available resources.
The reality is all the people working abroad showing the locals how much money and free hand out from the social systems their getting has had a devastating effect on the youth in Poland.
You're right here. Many young will rather emigrate instead of getting low salary in Poland as they parents. But hey! Think about Africa, Egypt for example. They also watch American movies, see lifestyle which cannot achieve at home with their salary. For Polish young the lifestyle is just behind the border.
I personally DID NOT come to POLAND, I am trapped in here!
Cannot you just leave and ask some relative of your wife to take care of this matter?
My neighbor is a POLISH Lawyer who punched two apartments! He is like me HANDS TIED!
Yes in few cases big developers bankrupted and people left with nothing. It was hard to predict that. Now system is better. It's possible to have money in escrow account and pay next rates when construction progresses.
You hardly even see any old Bangers (cars) on the road
Maybe because benzine in Poland is very expensive and few years old cars very cheap. Simply People who cannot afford to change a car cannot afford benzine too.
... the poor polish reality .. feel sad for me.
Once you say that and other time complain that you wife earns 2000zł. Of course there are people doing well in Poland, but many don't.
So what have they done in the last 100 years
You're actually right here. Most of families in Poland either had apartments or got them from the state after communism collapsed. 2 x smaller than average in Germany, but still. Hence very big home ownership in Poland. Now retires get relatively high retirements and own apartments, while young don't own anything, have to pay very big part of their earnings for rent and often earn minimums salary (much lower than average retirement).
was it not so long again with the farmers begging Russia to buy their apples because the west could not care one bit.
It's an interesting way to put it :)
I wrote several pages of continued code only to find the average IQ of people were only able to follow about one page!
LOL For those who don't know it's a bad style to write long code. How come that you being a programmer couldn't find online job from UK, while many Poles could?
And this isn't something you can't apply for yourself ?
I think that he wanted to point out cost of the building adaptation.
A copy of these are not available free at the building department with a partner that knows the laws. And aren't your sub contractors/specialists required to know these laws if they are licensed ?
I think he wanted to say that cheap architect may know these laws better than Polish partner.
After that i will look for the rent prices (of course i know the rent levels at Krakow or Warsaw, but i have no idea of Katowice, for example).
It's really 5min to roughly compare rent prices in major Polish cities. If you know price levels in Kraków and Warszawa, then tell us are they cheaper than Vancouver's or more expensive?
If you won't be lucky to live in a building with access to local network provided and you need cable internet, then the cheapest country wide offer is 80zł (50zł internet + 30zł fixed for the line) for 10Mbit/s with 2 years agreement. For 10zł more you can get 80Mbit/s.
Offers from local providers start from 40 - 50zł. Mobile internet 25 GB costs also 50zł in case that's enough for you. Public TV costs 63,70zł per year per apartment (kind of tax).
However, if you are officially self-employed, your tax rate goes down to 19%
If you are Venezuelan then this option is unavailable for you.
Have you already compared prices here? numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=Venezuela&country2=Poland&city1=Caracas&city2=Katowice
Consumer Prices Including Rent in Katowice are 71.99% lower than in Caracas
and average salary in Katowice is double than in Caracas. Is it true?
As for medical insurance, the public is obligatory and payed from your gross salary. So when you read above that will get 6000zł net, then it's after paying for public insurer. But it's true that not many people speak English there, so you will need a good friend to help you or just pay some student pocket money whenever you are in hospital to translate you. IBM will probably cover costs of private health insurance too. Big corporations usually do that.
Good question. I tough that there aren't any, but google says that 2 years ago the first private was opened: rezerwacja.nazwa.pl/akademik/ceny.html I am not sure how easy is to book place there.
I think it depends what you're going to do there. Do you think that they may need you just for 3 months? It is not usual to fire good workers after trial period. They are making some effort to get work permit for you, so probably they will need you for longer than just 3 months.
Monthly ticket in Warsaw costs around 100zł m.ztm.waw.pl/index.php?c=110&l=1#content
For other prices you can see here: numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=India&city1=Mumbai&country2=Poland&city2=Warsaw&displayCurrency=EUR
8500 PLN gross gives 6000zł net.
Hello friends,
And when you arrive in Poland stop saying friends and sir as most of Indians do. It sounds funny and stupid. Use colleague instead of friend and mister instead of sir. It's because Polish friend (przyjaciel) is somebody you drunk vodka with at least few times and sir is honorary title which we don't use since communism came to Poland.
If you know of any particular Polish ICE train that is not pulled by a locomotive, let me know and I will happy to check it.
They're called EZT. Here is list of such trains: pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lista_elektrycznych_zespo%C5%82%C3%B3w_trakcyjnych_i_wagon%C3%B3w_eksploatowanych_w_Polsce
You should come to Poland as a tourist. During that time you should apply to as many job positions as possible (or even send CV earlier with information that you will be in Poland 1 week later). Go to many interviews. Then the company who wants you will apply for your work permit. They have to make special job advertisement and leave it in local job office. If during 1 month nobody applies, you can get work permit. There are many tricks to make sure that nobody applies. For example requiring knowledge of niche technologies, offering very low salary or requiring knowledge of Turkish language.
It takes some time, requires extra effort from the company and the permit you get for this job only. As to what Terri says it's not so hard to get a job in IT, event for a Turkish person, especially if you're some kind of Senior Programmer.
and the wining about getting points for being late, and being asked to improve.
From what they write in Polish Internet, because of low unemployment in Poznań and Wrocław it's little different there. They plan to use carrot instead of stick, to make people come on time or even to show up at work at all.
I am for a fair days' pay for a fair days' work. Amazon exploit. Everybody knows that.
Although they pay more, provide more extras (medical insurance, free transport, free lunches) and don't ask for not payed overtimes like many Polish companies you call it exploitation. Of course it's not the most pleasant job, but everybody knows it and will not choose it if can get better. And because of their competition other local companies have to provide better conditions to keep employees.
But building holding centres for consumerist goods that are only destined for Western Europe, and Poles can't even buy under the same conditions?
1. It is worse than working in the Post Office or in a factory - where there is comaraderie and banter/ chat to pass the time.
Yes, that's why jobs in Post Office are very desired in less developed regions (basically all small towns).
It is an unsustainable model and produces nothing, just distributes.
It's not up us to worry about Amazon making profit. Services are equally important as production, especially, that with technological progress less people is needed in production.
Therefore we have more roads, more transport, more noise and light pollution. For what? By your admission - so that other countries can get their post free cheap goods.
Is it such a big problem, that few more cars will travel on the highway Poznań - Germany and Wrocław - Germany? They will have to pay for it anyway.
Again, it suggests that Poland is the dumping ground - and "those Poles will work for less".
Of course these are not R&D jobs, but still jobs. Germans will miss them.
Of course it damages local competition. I take it you do not run a small business?
Average salary ratio to GDP in Poland is too low, so little extra competition for workers, especially unskilled shouldn't be a problem.
The point is not the pay. The pay is low. A lot of people in Poland work for low pay - and that is irresponsible of the employers and they can get away with it.
And still you're against extra competition for workers? Have you heard about supply and demand?
Can I trust this schedule that such intercity trains should arrive on time? Or can I expect some delay?
Nobody really knows, because it's a new train to Poland and this track is still being renovated. Better count some extra time for delays if it's very important.
There is no need to complain about Amazon. Currently it's only positive for Poland: - it decreases unemployment in the region - it doesn't compete with their products with local companies as it exports services - it increases salaries in Poznań and Wrocław because it competes for workers. Many Poles work already in German Amazon, so now don't have to emigrate. They provide free transportation to work, so give work not only to citizens of big cities, but also many smaller located near Wrocław and Poznań. It isn't only employer in the region, so people don't have to agree to work there if conditions are too bad. It can serve as employer of last hope ;)
This one? linkedin.com/jobs2/view/12484114 When searching for work in bigger companies it's good to see what Glassdoor says. But I think, that for Kraków department there is too little data:
If you haven't seen these salary reports: tiny.cc/hays-pdf (add 10%, because it's few years old) hays.pl/en/media-centre/HAYS_712672 gazetapraca.pl/gazetapraca/0,74897.html (search Java) placeprogramistow.apphb.com
Basically median is 6000PLN gross. If you are a perfect candidate for the position, then you could ask for 10000 gross, but perhaps it's over the budget since they search for employees from India. Here you can see many job offers for Java programmers in Kraków. Some of them have information about salaries:
4programmers.net/Praca/Szukaj?q=Java+Krak%C3%B3w
@1: Apartment with fees 2000 zł in the center, 1600 zł away from the center. Food cooked at home 400 - 1000 zł. Transportation 150 zł. Internet + telephone 70 - 150 zł. numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=India&country2=Poland&city1=Mumbai&city2=Krakow+%28Cracow%29
@2: I guess that Kraków had bad climate for Indians (used to warmth) during autumn and winter. If you choose good neighborhood (away from blocks) then it shouldn't be bad place to live for you.
Just hang around in few places. Keep your stuff in some garage and move each month into new place rent through airbnb.com. I also think that Czech Republic is better place than Poland. It's similar in terms of cost, but it's more organised, cleaner (I don't know about people though). You should not forget about climate and language. It's good to know local language and Polish does not belong to the simplest to learn. Climate in cheap Greece, Portugal or Croatia is very different from Polish. People are quite different too.
It depends which foreigners. For example Indian cuisine is completely different from Polish, so when Indians want to cook as at home it will be more expensive. Also locals have sometimes easier to negotiate price for apartment. Locals know which pub have good and cheap bear and which market sell products in good prices. Also local know better how to manage taxes, where to buy tickets. But these are thing possible to learn.
