Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

there used to be/still is a 'culture' of Irish jokes in the UK, mostly focusing on the 'stupidity' of the Irish and I wonder if the Polish joke thing in the US has some simillar basis, that is, perhaps because many incomers from Ireland were single labourers/working men who were not considered 'brainy'.

also, and I digress, there is no single direct way of saying 'yes' or 'no' in Brythonic languages which gave the English further 'reason' to think people from Celtic nations were shifty'stupid, as that way of speaking was transliterated into English.

anyone who think it is amusing to tell jokes focusing on the stupidity of one nation is a bit lacking themselvess tbh

UK, Ireland / Advice on child support (Irish with my Polish husband) [106]

"Contraception and abortion are not easily available in Ireland so it's pointless to preach about having another child, that may have been an accident"

that is simply no longer true, kaz, Irish women have been having abortions for years thanks to ryanair direct to stansted. not that i would suggest that as a good course of action to anyone.

I have been raising two children with no child support for over seven years now, and i know v wel that my ex and his new wife say all kinds of **** about me to justify themselves.

so i am not coming at this with any 'ignorance' tbh

" we just want to give what is fair"
but you already said that the child support was cut to zl.150 because your stepson was cold to your husband at his first communion.
how was that fair to an 8 year old child, exactly?
and this is not 'cyberbullying' and you are not a teenager (I do hope)
i suggest you post your problem on mumsnet and see what reaction you get there.
as for the stories that you tell about how nasty this woman is eg about the booties etc., you do realise that these tales are totallly one sided don't you?

that she would have quite a different tale to tell?

Law / What banks are people using in Poland? [50]

inwroclaw i have heard of this happening in a British bank with one of my students who was Spanish.
it was purely down to the ignorance of the bank clerk and was in no way bank policy.

quite frankly i do not blame her.....his dad has left the country and started a new family.
then turns up at first communion giving it large with a wodge of other peoples cash....
lovely dad. you do realise that if he has done this to one family he is more than capable of doing it to another right?

62 euros a week would not be high in Ireland, and you know it.

you chose a man with a child for whom he is responsible, what did you expect, for the child to disappear when yours came along?

and her lifestyle is not your business.

you two offered to pay her 150 zl a month? After the son was cold to his father? so that is some kind of punishment for the child or what?

you know how much that is in pounds/euros right?
and swimming for her child is an 'obscene luxury'?
you shouldnt have got with a man with a child should you?

Life / Is 10500 monthly is enough for a family to live in Warsaw Poland [136]

. As you now Indians are Brown-skinned although we are fair but with black hair... we are surely expecting some stares...aren't we ?

in my experience sur, people stare at you if you are speaking a different language, whatever your colouring.....so yes, but do not take it personally i think it is just curiousity.

of course Warsaw may be different to my experiences in smaller towns..

Life / One of more conspicuous Polish traits - inconsequence? [37]

I can assure you I am not 'stupid', 'silly' or lacking in 'intelligence'.
i suppose being a schoolteacher you are in the habit of saying such things to people who do not agree with you,
and then shouting 'goodnight' to prevent further words...?
sad but predictable.

News / Polish police chief removes crosses [250]

The errant police chief should be exiled to live out his days in the godless spiritual vacuum of a Belgium or UK.

or possibly the USA..:):)

Life / Polish vs British vs American - Clash of cultures [390]

my irish granny used to leave some milk to go off to make soda bread.
i dont think this would work these days anyway as the milk is over-treated and homogenised.
coin op gas is mostly in holiday cottages and the like.

Study / Homeschooling in Poland - possible to apply? [14]

Elements like bullying and dealing with uncomfortable social atmospheres is part of growing up and into a well rounded individual

agree to an extent but if the bullying leads to suicide then there would be no growing up.

UK, Ireland / Daniel Pelka murder: Polish mother and stepfather face life sentences [96]

It's a sad state of affairs that Britain can only muster collective concern when a cat gets stuck up in a tree or when a wealthy celeb files for divorce.

oh right so the psycho stepfather and sick mother were not responsible for this, Britain was? I see.
this is something i have noticed time and again, even heard it said. 'not my fault, I am Polish'

History / Poland is a Catholic country [177]

You may think it is far fetched that anyone in Scotland would use religion as a source for identity.

lol no i don't think anyone with a vague awareness of life in the UK would think that far fetched.....
