Travel / Driving to Poland from England - any tips? [264]
I seem to remember that the most dangerous road in Europe is in Portugal , somewhere near the tourist resorts on the coast....I don,t think you will find Poland any worse as regards driving...The standard of driving does at times cause problems , and there is no denying the country has a high accident rate , but just take it easy , untill you get used to the way they drive in Poland....Don,t want to scare you , but Lithuania has an even higher accident rate...!

This doesn't make any sense, you are travelling from Stuttgart to Gdansk but you can only go 30KM?

Love / Met a Polish girl on the Internet, and I'm soon off to meet her... [82]
I met a lady on the internet , not Polish , but one of those tricky Russians....drove all the way to Kiev to met her...had nine wonderfull days in a nice hotel , in a great city , with the most lovely woman i have ever met.....
Normally i would be very doubtfull about internet romances , but they have as much chance of turning out good as any other way of meeting.....
In my case it was everything i hoped for and more..... its not going to be easy to organise a life together , she lives in Moscow , i live in Poland , but one way or another we are going to be together....

I see you are in Kiev Lisa , can you not fly direct to Gdansk , rather than Kracow . its a lot nearer to Gdynia...? ooops...i see somebody has already suggested this...

If your car is in reasonable condition , and you don,t put your foot down too much , you should get between 25 and 30 miles to the gallon on a long run....
I don,t know what the fuel prices are at your end , and i am no good at maths either , but if you work out how many miles it is , and work it out at 25 miles to the gallon you should be able to have some idea how much its going to cost you....
There is some great maps on the net...the one i use is Bing maps , you put in your location , and your destination , and it gives you the best route , and tells you how many miles it is....also how long it takes... according to them its 715 miles from Rotterdam to Starogard Gdanski.. 1153 kms.. and takes around 13 hours....
Also on the net is a list of fuel prices in all the countries you will pass through...just type in fuel prices...you will find it....
I don,t live so far away from where you are going in Poland , and i an happy to give you my phone number and email in case you get any problems at this end.....

Happy to help you if i can my friend...... I am an English biker who has been living in Poland for five years.. I have ridden around most of Poland , and also the Baltic states , and i have visited Ukraine on my Harley....
I have visited Riga , but i went there in a 4 x 4 Landrover....
If there are any questions you want to ask , just ask...if i don,t know the answers , i probably know someone who does.......

At this moment i am planning a trip to Kiev in Ukraine , but i am not going by bike , the roads are terrible . i am driving by Jeep....

Somebody tripped over carrying a large knife and accidentally stabbed the guy...later they went to visit him in hospital to say they were sorry , and once again tripped over , this time killing him with the knife...
It could happen to anyone...its not so weird...??
The important question for me is....did they get Olga yet....?????

Exactly....As an Englishman i always hand over money when some Polish person tries to scam me....I even have the local drunks come to my house to ask for beer money , or a lift to the bar...i never refuse...its what us English people are here for...

Get the ferry to Liverpool...drive along the m62 to Hull....catch the ferry to Rotterdam , then drive the A1 ( E30 ) ..... Just past Berlin , go north on the A11 ( E28 ) to just south of Szczecin , and then take the 10 route to Walz...From Walz its the 22 route all the way to Starogard Gdanski.....
Have a safe trip.... I reckon it will take you about 14 hours from Rotterdam to Starogard , taking it steady , and with lots of rest stops....The ferry takes about 11 hours to get from Liverpool to Rotterdam...
If you can tell us if your car is petrol or diesal we might be able to give you a clue how much its gonna cost you....
