Law / Advice for not getting paid for some teaching. Small claims court in Poland? [10]

I was doing some work for a company, they outsourced me to do some teaching in an office.
Anyway, I finished the work last July and I'm still waiting to get paid.

I've made a number of phone calls, sent emails and I'm at the end of my tether now.
They obviously don't want to pay me, should I get a solicitor involved? Or does Poland have a small claims court or an Ombudsman?

Thanks

Work / Getting an entertainment Gig in Poland - how to go about it? [8]

So lets say you're a DJ or a singer-songwriter and you want to play a gig, nothing huge just a couple of support slots.

How would you go about it?
Should I just contact bands that are gonna be playing in the city over the coming months or promoters or do the venues look after stuff like that.

Back home it's a mix, if you get in with a promoter they may use you in a few different places but if you an get in with a venue then they'll put you on with suitable acts that play there.

Advice would be much appreciated, since I moved here, I've made nearly an album's worth of tracks and would love to get back to gigging

Life / My own thoughts about life in Poland (have lived here for two years) [133]

f8ck in hell

great post OP
nails on heads and so on.

although you do live in Warsaw and Warsaw sucks ;-P

I've only been here a year and it's been pretty hard at time, got a dog coz I was so bored and lonely, ye're a hard bunch of people to become friends with,

you're all open once you get to know people the problem is nobody once to get to know people once they're over 22 and, probably, already married.

I hope the all the money that comes form the football will make a difference fourfourtwo.com/news/restofeurope/61477/default.aspx
and they'll invest it in roads and better infrastructure

UK, Ireland / why do you shout and throw (question for english people) [30]

and paint his car a different colour using a sharp stick...!

Seriously PL should start a comment of the day...
classic hahahaha!

One day in Dubline we were at traffic lights waiting for the lights to change and a bunch of skangers pulled up beside us, the driver one of them lowered his window and spit a big filthy green one onto out window, we were furious but sure what can you do, the cops are idiots or are too busy trying to catch proper criminal (ie write parking tickets) and if you chase them they could have knifes or even guns...but y'know that Dublin where they have a special breed of scumbag....

sorry to hear this is happening to you, i think young lads especially in cities in uk and ireland have had it too easy from their folks, no manners have been taught to them, you wouldn't really find that kind of bolloxology outside the cities.

but try and get the reg plate number next time, but dont ever chase them, ya never know what they might have in their pockets

Life / Why Aren't The Shops in Poland Open on Sundays? [82]

get yourself informed. Don't be so condescending.

What i meant was it's a bit fascist to celebrate an army who involved in two wars that have absolutley nothing to do with them

so do everyone a favor and go play with yourself to occupy your time instead of starting stupid flame threads -Troll. Guests should respect and honor local customs not trample all over them.

You're callin me a troll, mr-who's-never-even-started-a-thread, dare i say he who labels someone is surely labeling himself in the process

Blow me, go back to the OP and you'll see that I wanted advice on how to get a petition started to see if we could fix this idiotic situation when shops close because of an out-dated religious tradition

The thread is about why shops are closed. The answer: because it is a public holiday

Again it's not about that please read my OP, I know why they are closed, I want to know if there's anything that can be done to change the situation

Please if you would just take the time to read the OP, I asked you all NOT TO turn this into a religious bashing sessions, I actually wanted some advice about how to start a petition

And how would I get people to sign it and ho would it be received

thank you

Life / Why Aren't The Shops in Poland Open on Sundays? [82]

Funny, I thought that the shops being closed had more to do with this being the day that an unfaithful wife went to go live in the sky kingdom?

hahahaha,
post of the day, right here.

Brilliant :-)

If you are an atheist, fine - I am one myself. But that does not give you the right to be all patronising and condescending to those of us who happen to believe in the Lady in question.

so are you an atheist or not,

I am one myself

seems you're tellin porky pies

condescending to those of us who happen to believe in the

anyway shops are closed for this religious thingy, says so on the front of my local Tesco and Bedronka and not the polish army day, whatever that is....seems a bit stupid to celebrate an army involved in illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan

Life / Why Aren't The Shops in Poland Open on Sundays? [82]

I remember as a kid the shops were closed but then suddenly everything was open on Sundays, cant remember the year, but it was sometime between 1989-90 maybe earlier.

I do remember one bishop giving out about it and he was basically told where to go

look, i've no problem with the retail shops closing, like media shops/book shops/clothes shops but it's really dumb to close grocery shops, anyway, i'm off to buy me brekkie, they're prob be a queue a half a mile long so talk to yas later

Life / Why Aren't The Shops in Poland Open on Sundays? [82]

not really a big issue, to be honest. Just a little planning ahead. It's not that we are some headless chickens, now are we?

It's a feckin huge issue when the shop had no signs telling us it was gonna be closed and an even bigger issue when this irishman doesn't get his sunday morning breakfast

The more i think about it the angrier i get, I'm still starving and the local shop still isn't open yet.

Anyway, nobody gonna help me with gettin a petition going then eh?

Life / Why Aren't The Shops in Poland Open on Sundays? [82]

since we live in a democratic society then it shouldn't simply be decided just on the basis that one group believe something special happened on that that day.

Not fair that the rest of us have to suffer just coz we dont adhere to some religious mumbo-jumbo

Life / Why Aren't The Shops in Poland Open on Sundays? [82]

I agree workers should get maybe time and a half or double time on Sundays, but the thing is that the shops are usually open on sundays, it's when you have these idiotic religious days that they close, i mean thats completely stupid to close a shop for religious reasons

Life / Why Aren't The Shops in Poland Open on Sundays? [82]

Ok, I know the answer.... it's because some people believe that a virgin (yea right!) rose up into the sky and thats why the shops are closed today.

But surely in this day and age this needs to stop, no?

Can we get something like a petition started, I'll need some help from a Polish native-speaker....like if an online petition was started and signed by people then maybe the morons that run the tescos, carrefours etc will listen and stop closing shops just because of some religious mumbo-jumbo

Please, I dont want this to turn into the usual religious bashing, because most on this forum are in agreement that it's bullsh*t but we're all willing to live with people's choice to believe in whatever they want.

However, this belief effects me when i can't go to the feckin shop and buy some grub for the day, now i gotta wait until my local Zabka open at 12.00, that's 90mins away and Ive been hungry since 8am

Anyway, do you think a signed petition would work and does anyone know how to go about it?

btw, huge thunderstorm over Katowice...mary is obviously coming in(to) heaven :-P

UK, Ireland / Ive been in the UK for 6 days to relocate and im going back to Poland. [281]

but sure the uk always sucked as, first it was the irish ruining it

then it was black people

sure it's common knowledge that ye lot had signs in your windows saying,
No Irish
No Blacks
No Dogs

up until the 1970s

Then you moaned about the Indians and the Pakistanis and the others that came as a result of ye "spreading civilisation" and colonising half the feckin planet.

Now, its the turn of the Muslim to take the brunt of english xenophobia.

instead of moaning about it ye should be getting your idiotic conservative(nazi) govt to begin programmes to try and promote intergration, but you wont, you haven't learned from your mistakes in the past (those bastard in the IRA), you've got the same situation all over again, if you keep making mistakes you should at least try to learn from them.

Ireland hasn't got the same problems with muslims as the uk has and why is that? coz we're so used to being on the wrong end of racism that we're far more open to other religions and cultures, something the uk has never ever been.

rant over....

Life / what is with the blasphemy laws in Poland? [9]

ah the irish thing it just there to cover their arses, it hasn't been enforced and judges will be allowed to interpret the law as they see fitting.

It's not as big a deal as people make it out to be.

The truth behind the passing of the law in ireland is so that extreme Islamists wont be able to operate in ireland anymore, as they have been in the past. Many money generating operations for the likes of Al-Queda were taking place in Ireland and the cops have been quietly taking them down over th epast few years, you dont really hear about it but it is happening for sure..

most Irish people dont give a rats ass about religion anymore, the church went form have a 98% population attendence to now only having about 10%

Language / What do you like in Polish language? [70]

swearing, swearing in Polish is a ton of fun.

oh and how people say masakre, thats a cool word.

Also the Silesian language is really cool and much easier than Polish,
it's loads of fun when i say Silesian words to the Silesian natives, they love the fact that I'm making the effort to learn the local lingo

Love / Possibility of Marriage with a Polish lady [96]

why would you want to marry a chaste chick?
plus a virgin, man, never go with a virgin, once they pop they cant stop, she'll wear you out and you'll be exhausted after a week of non-stop action :-)

in fairness though good luck to ya buddy, Polish girls are fantastic, but in my experience virgins aren't all they're cracked up to be, better off if she's got some experience otherwise it'll be like riding a plant of wood
