USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

During communism many of these people I am talking about, didn't actually follow any ideology but what was best for themselves, yet basically lied that they were pro communism, made money through lies but made sure the masses were following the methodology. They were neither communist nor capitalist- just liars. And they are still liars.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

Well, the thing is- these people, and a huge majority involved in politics in communist Poland, were preaching to the masses about the ideals of communism but were not following it themselves.

It has nothing to do with adapting. They were liars and thieves and they actually still are- even though they now call it capitalism here.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

1jola: start with how the communists prepared in the mid-80's for the "fall" of communism
I would be interested to know how you think they prepared for it!

they socked their money away in banks and when the walls came down they were the first to open businesses- big businesses. If you notice, those in the communist gov't came out shining while the regular workers didn't fair as well.

Travel / Great places to ski in Poland [16]

there are small "mountains" by the town of Wisla, where the Wisla river begins. I don't ski in Poland for the reasons already listed above but there seem to be less people in that area. They all go to Zakopane.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

but nobody has ever said the prices were not dropping. The issue is that he has been claiming that there is a bubble which is not the same thing as a constant decline.

Funny thing, I have posted a few studies done by experts, like milky has, but mine were discredited because they were from agents which is exactly what he has just posted.

in Piaseczno, which is considered a suburb of Warsaw the prices have dropped to 4100 pln m2--I expect they will level off at 3800 m2. In Zoliborz the prices are at around 7000 m2 and in Powisle they are closer to 9000 m2. It has to do with saturation of the market and the space available to build as well as access to metro--even parts of Wilanow are around 4500 m2.

So once again--nobody has ever claimed the prices were not dropping. clearly they are and have been for a while- but there is no bubble like what milky has been saying for quite some time now.

UK, Ireland / How long will Poles use communism and ww2 as an excuse to move to the UK? [55]

I'm racist because i don't want millions of foreign nationals feeding of my country?

you say this like it is only Polish people. And of course there are no English that have ever done this.

This type of behaviour is exactly the Poland is a mess.

Let's stick to topic and have a rational discussion instead of spitting poison at me...

but Poland isn't a mess and you would know this if you actually lived here. Less educated people have historically always moved for work. Is this not why the thousands upon thousands of British subjects immigrated to the new world?

give your head a shake.

News / Poland, still corrupt, but not as bad as Czech/Hungary & Italy [36]

He can't. He already thinks his phone is being tapped- strange happenings. Basically the deal has already been done and my husband has been hired so that it looks legit. He took the job not knowing that everything was done. A lot of insider stuff goes on in commercial real estate and he doesn't play that way but he got wrapped up in it not knowing until it was too late -luckily it is almost done and he can move on---because living with somebody who has a hard time dealing with corruption is a nightmare.

Food / Are whole turkeys hard to find in Poland? [2]

there are some. I usually buy mine in October or Nov and keep it in the fridge for xmas. They have them at Tesco, Alma and Piotr i Pawel. Thanksgiving is an American holiday- why would Poles celebrate it if they move back?

our thanksgiving is in october. we don't celebrate it while living in Poland.

Real Estate / Are there any legal Poland realtors here? [5]

yes, of course there are. doesn't mean they are good. recently Remax has started up here, it is my understanding that they follow the models of North America. Stay away from private companies- they are a joke.

Law / what is well-off in Poland [13]

3000-3500 is medium income, although it may be higher in Warsaw.

It is higher in Warsaw. Starting salary for an office worker is about 4500, 4800.

Food / How common GMO Food in Poland is? [25]

exactly, Polonius, so I would rather be cautious. but when there is mass amounts of money to be made----it is not usually beneficial to anybody but those making the money.

making crops grow faster doesn't make sense. it is gluttony at its worst. these crops are not used to help feed third world countries - these crops and all the run off from them are helping the Western world get fatter and sicker than ever.

and it has hit Poland at an alarming rate. Yesterday I was in a shopping centre in Warsaw and I was shocked at all the obese people in line at the Burger KIng- this didn't exist 5 years ago. and it is sad.

Travel / Going to Poland and looking for some antiques [24]

your entire view on this subject makes you sound quite unsavory for first time since I started hanging here!

I don't care what you think. I don't buy and sell antiques so it is not really a concern of mine, however, slamming some person because he would like to seems to be quite hypocritical seeing as there are loads of so called "antique dealers" in Poland who, without a doubt, have managed to smuggle antiques into the country for their own personal gain.

In fact if you are in Warsaw, I can tell you where they are located- because I have been to most of them.

I have never said I agree with it, but there is no way of stopping it. I don't support it- but it happens so unless you would like to step off your pedestal and actually do something then keep your critique to yourself because I am stating a fact.

Travel / Going to Poland and looking for some antiques [24]

you are missing the point. No Pole abroad is going to claim their importing antiques. that I can almost guarantee. so why should Poland expect others to do the same?

but it will never happen so the point is moot.

Can you see anybody of any culture wanting to pay more in taxes because something is an antique? don't think so.

It has nothing to do with integrity. It is about what is fair. what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

It is the same crap over and over again. Poles can do what they want in any foreign country but if it were the reverse then Poles are up in arms.

Ever been to the Kolo market? I have. It is full of foreign items. How did they get there? don't answer because I already know.

What about the antiques from other parts of Europe? How did they get to Poland? don't answer because I already know.

EU borders are open so goods can pass freely from one country to the next and antiques are one of them. many people in other countries don't appreciate their antiques being sold in Poland--but that is the way it goes.

Food / How common GMO Food in Poland is? [25]

gmo is nothing but poison. it starts with the seeds that grow the grains that get fed to animals that we eat. we get a double dose from grains, meats and dairy.

it is toxic. it is only used to increase profits- nothing more. we can't have it.

And I have nothing against someone buying antiques in Poland and selling somewhere else but do it the legal way.

right because all the antiques bought by Poles and driven or imported into Poland are all legal. still a double standard. There are businesses in Poland that are solely based on the import of antiques from France, Germany, Holland, Belgium and England. Get off your soap box. If you don't want others to do it--then do something to regulate the import from other countries to Poland. We all know how law abiding Poles are.

lets be realistic shall we. How many Polish companies are importing antiques? double standard, no? This is part of my business- I deal with this regularly. You will not get stopped, you shouldn't worry too much about it.....unless you are looking for the Arbeit Macht Frei sign.

Kolo is overpriced. For the Swedish krona it is probably peanuts. I was there about 3 weeks ago and I couldn't believe how expensive things were. Over twice the price.

there are better place, however- kolo is quite fun.
you will not get stopped. don't worry.
do you speak any Polish? this is important because you are an easy target at Kolo.
What specifically are you looking for? maybe I can help you.
