We know that politicians lie, they are influenced through outside sources (pressure, money, lobbies) etc. Sometimes they have to play nice with the other parties. Thats the problem with rep. gov.
With direct dem. people vote directly with referendums (im not sure if thats the right term).

I think it's boring because Poland is trying too hard to be European, or a part of the EU, and they forget that they're Slavs, not Protestants. We're closer to Moscow in our culture than we are to Brussels, but Polish people are too ashamed to admit that. It's like we're trying to be something we're not, and throwing away the common Slavic heritage all because of some war cr-p.

If his plans worked out, I would prefer Communism (assuming the leaders of the latter didnt have the same/similiar plan). So in a way yes I am slightly thankful. I think the events of the Warsaw Uprising were sad too.
At the same time, Communism and Stalin destroyed or made Poland lag compare to western Europe.
There were pluses and minuses to Communism, but I think most will agree there were more negatives.

People are comparing Slavic languages...
As a Polish speaker I find Russian one of the hardest to understand from all Slavic languages. There are many similarities and I can pick of words/sets of words but 100 understanding is much tougher. Czech, Serbian and even Ukrainian are easier to understand than Russian to me.
Back when Crow was here I actually agreed with him on several things in the discussions. He liked Slavs as do I.

Well I am not in Poland, but am ethnically Polish. My view points wouldnt change regardless where I live.
For me its a sad thing Poland is "sucking up" to Germany and USA and there appears to be some hate to the Russians.
Because of geography/politics Germany-Poland-Ukraine/Russia have had LOTS of conflicts. Those were sad events.
But I think its time to move on and fix these problems.
Someone told me that the German-Polish relationship is based more on economy than real friendship. Not sure how accurate that is.
There was an interesting article or video (cant remember) which showed the Polish relationship to neighboring countries. If someone has it that would be great. It had the percentages and details.
WWII happened over 60 years ago. The Germans killed more Poles than the Russians did over decades during that war.
Communism is still fresh in many peoples mind. Those were rough times (which is why my family left Poland to Canada). Many Poles feel that Communism halted the potential progress Poland might have gained under different circumstances.
There were also other conflicts historically for 1000 years. Its a huge topic.
Let me say this that I value Russians more than average Pole views on Russia. I think as Slavs Poland might gain more from having close neighbour friends.
I mean what the hell did the West to do help Poland in WWII? Nothing. Today Poland is just a shield against Russia/Iran or whatever "enemies" there might be.
The situation (and "hatred") between Poles-Russians is kind of like Croats-Serbians. I feel these are the two largest examples of conflicts between Slavic nations.

I find if you know Polish you can understand many Slavic words/sentences from other languages.
The hardest for me is probably Russian. Can only translate a few words here and there.
But for Czech, Serbian, Ukrainian many many words are recognizable.
