News / Poland's Economy Is Booming! The EU's Success Story? [711]

Now that youve finally asked i will give an example. Take LG Phillips in Wroclaw, a major manufacterer of HD TV's among other things. They decided to set up a manufacterering plant to supply Europe in Tyniec Maly just outside of Wroclaw, the main draw was cheap property and cheap labour, the lions share of profits all go to Korea, becuase LG Phillip is a South Korean company. This kind of big business set up is prevailant all over Poland.

Providing people with jobs and giving them an income is a bad thing according to you? Boy O Boy, you are thicker than i thought. Still waiting for the economist, don't be shy.

If i wanted to change my profile name, i would have done so a long time ago.

i suppose English may not be your first language so im going to give you the benfit of the doubt.

It could be my fourth language, it would still be better then yours. So you find Poland so unpleasant but you are determined to stay in the country, are you some kind of loser?

I already gave you an out and you came back with more BS.

And what would that be, subscribing to imbecile economics 101. Naturally i don't want the views of an imbecile, that is why I am asking you for the views of a mainstream economist who can substantiate your claim that investment by big business is bad, so have you found one yet?

pot meet kettle

I don't think so, because unlike him I don't trash my adopted country. If he doesn't like Poland he should just get out.

I didnt say unpleasant

Not only are you irrational, but you also seem to have problem with telling the truth, so let me remind you of what you said:

I understand how unpleasing it must be for natives to hear unpleasent things about their country

come back to Poland you traitor

In my own time.

I am still waiting for any sort of substantiation of your claim that investment by big business is bad.

Call it as you will, we basically have a difference of opinion nothing more.

No we don't, but you do. No mainstream economist would substantiate your claim that foreign direct investment by big business is "bad". You can try and prove me wrong if you wish though, good luck. So like I said totally irrational.

I understand how unpleasing it must be for natives to hear unpleasent things about their country.

It would be. If the unpleasant things were grounded in rationality, but in your case they are not. So not really, you can go on repeating your 'unpleasant things'. But if Poland is that unpleasant, are you sure it makes sense for you to live in the country? It seems to me that if you were convinced by your own logic, you would have never set foot in this country in the first place.

Big businesses only care about themsleves, they only set up in Poland to further exploit the people, its mostly "pay peanuts get monky's" types of deals. Germany owns, manufacters and sells their own products and theyre good at it, that's why they are the NO:1 global exporter. Poland mostly, merely accommodates, the big profit for the big business goes overseas.

Sorry this has nothing to do with economics and everything to do with a irrational rant.

News / Polish children boosting standards among English pupils, study suggests [16]

Notwithstanding the somewhat, not entirely substantiated telegraph headline, i think it is good to see Poles integrating well into British society.

I think that you would probably have a similar finding re Chinese students. Any thoughts?

Ohh do you work in Poland then? we both know you dont and probably never will.

I hope that I will, i guess we shall have to wait and see.

That doesnt cut it im afraid, big businesses setting up does not help the people

Sorry but you completely lost me. So you mean that if only small businesses set up up that's good but big ones are bad. Are sure you weren't tired when you wrote this, perhaps a bit sleep deprived, all of your mental faculties working in order?

Might i ask why you reside in Australia?

I reside in both. I've spent 2 months in Poland this year. Last year when I visited Warsaw, I was astounded by the amount of construction activity I witnessed, I've never seen anything like it before. That is the same impression i got when i traveled by train from Warsaw to Gdansk, and then from Gdansk to katowice.

The problem i have is that i dont think the figures reflect reality

In other words what you are saying is the international bodies making these predictions, and the recent article in The Economist "Poland gains from German demand and investment. It boasts the fastest growth in the EU: this year, GDP should rise by at least 2.7%", is wrong and you are right.

economist.com/node/21555619

In Poland theres plenty of people in the shops but hardly anybody buys stuff other than essentials.

Is not exactly a good measure of economic activity.

what nice make up numbers.

Statistics don't lie, this is a credible international body making this prediction. I don't understand why people like to indulge in this tall poppy syndrome (trying to cut down the tallest poppy), instead of celebrating the fact that at last, after years of slavery the Poles are finally coming into their own and making the most of freedom.

In fairness I've never called him stupid, or any poster for that matter. There is a difference between stupidity and ignorance.

No you did not, i was just illustrating the fact that he completely ignores statistics that are inconvenient to him, and comes up with no stats to back up his ridicules rants, which in my book certainly makes him stupid.

What anti-semitic statements have i made?

About Jews controlling Poland

I came to Poland to help the polish economy...

Very funny, you dump on the country at every possible opportunity, and as peter has pointed out your presence makes the average IQ of the country go down.

f the only way to win an arguement is to insult the other person then you indeed are the 'Moron.' or a 'TROLL' ;)

I stand by what i said, but to add to that you are also an anti Semite. And I have no time for idiots or racists.

I can only assume that Gyndiaguy is another British guy who finds himself in Poland solely because of some girl, and with it, he spends his days ranting about Poland rather than manning up and simply getting out.

I couldn't have put it better myself. And i think we will leave it there.

I have added a few points that you are free to argue against...

By all means

The rise in GDP being the biggest example of this. The problem with this is that Polands GDP is still woefully low compared to Western Europe which they are compared against. If i have 1 grosz and get 3 grosz i have a 300% rise!!! great!! If i have 1 zloty and have lost 2 grosz it's a 2% drop..bad you might say. I'd rather have 98gr then 3gr!!

You obviously never heard of the concept of diminishing returns.

a rise in GDP to a country like Poland means more than it does to other more advanced economies.

inveriably decimate the so called polish 'tiger' economy'

Sadly for you bad wishes don't always translate into reality.

Rising costs to foreign companies in Poland (wages etc) will make Poland an unattractive place to do business (Poland is already woefully low on the 'place to do business' scale already!) In fact British companies are already bringing back work from both Poland and China.

Completely wrong, it is in fact one of the most attractive places to do business in.

" United Nations Information Centre with cooperation with PAIiIZ presented the "World Investment Report 2005: Transnational Corporations and the Internationalization of R&D." Poland is the eight most attractive location for business in the world, according to the report." That was in 2005-before the GFC, since then Poland has become even more attractive.

more: " Warsaw ranks number 12 among top business locations across the world, according to a study by real estate services company CB Richard Ellis (CBRE). More than 150 multinational corporations have their offices in the Polish capital city."

British companies bringing work back work from Poland and china, you are having a lough: "Controversial Cadbury closure moves chocolate productions to Poland" news.bbc.

The Czechs didn't exactly suffer annihilation in the Second War, and as things currently stand Poland is in a much better place economically than Estonia. You should use a bit more objectivity and less prejudice, when sharing your "pearls of wisdom". Or to borrow an Aussie classic, stop talking though your ass.

.only albania, hungary, latvia and lithuania have worse..

Not only. You forgot Romania and Bulgaria. And that will rapidly change in the next 10 years.

As a Brit living in Poland it's easy to see how Polish people are fooled into thinking that their Economy is an EU success story.

It's amazing how one person can be so wrong on so many issues in one thread. Economically illiterate doesn't even begin to cover it.

News / Presidential elections and debates 2015 Poland [472]

Ziobro's famous "hoarse voice" moment, when he got a bit emotional and lost his cool at one of the nutter conventions.

most amusing. Especially this comment from one of the youtube contributors:
"Jednak ten czlowiek nie ma honoru, bez wazeliny wlazi w anus Rydzykowi.
Że robią to głupie pisówki - można zrozumieć,ot durne owieczki ale żeby facet, były minister podtrzymywał interes i za interes Rydzyka to obciach straszliwy.

I must admit it caused a lot of amusement on my part.

not him !

Whether you like it or not, your little party and its ugly little demagogic troll (Moscow's useful idiot), will be consigned to the rubbish bin of history. How many election looses will he have to go through before you and your ilk realize that he is one of life's losers. Will it be the local elections in 2014?

Will it be the European elections in 2014? Or maybe it will be the Presidential elections in 2015? Or perhaps the parliamentary elections in 2015? Or could it be that anybody who is of independent thought and asks too many questions no longer exists in the Party?
