News / Polish Independence Day-Beware? [59]

are we talking hard core racists or hard core drag acts?

an express train ticket buys you access to the nation's capital in around two hours

News / Polish Independence Day-Beware? [59]

Blood and Honour are taking to the streets in Warsaw to protest about Jews, gays, blacks, Vietnamese, lack of jobs

might be an idea to steer clear if you are non-White or feel like celebrating Independence Day in drag

as for the transvestite members of our forum, there is always next year :-)

Study / Information Needed: Skarbek University, Warsaw. [57]

according to their website

Skarbek University (SU) in Warsaw, Poland (Wyższa Szkoła Handlu i Finansów Międzynarodowych) is one of the leading Polish private university founded in 1995.

In 2007 one of the biggest Polish magazines 'Wprost' placed our University on the 2nd position among more than 100 private business universities in Poland and magazine 'Polityka' put us on the 3rd place. Skarbek educates students from different parts of the world, Bangladesh, China, Gambia, Germany, India, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, Tunisia, Vietnam, Italy, Spain, and much more.

Skarbek University offers full programme of studies in English language of instruction. The University provides Bachelor Study in Management (BBA, BSc) and Master Study in Economics (MBA, MSc).

su.edu.pl

what you have to bear in mind is that the private universities are struggling and have been ever since national conscription was abolished as university education meant that you were exempt from serving in the army

having checked out their website most articles are from 2007

I do not know the university however if they are telling you that you can get a great job working part time to finance your university education then they are lying and you should find another university. It is not as bad as the Ukranian universities which advertise that Ukraine is an EU country however if they have lied about your job prospects then they have lied about how good their course is

so a question to you

did the Skarbek University tell you that you could find a well paid job in Poland whilst studying?

History / Pole, Hungarian, two good friends [58]

they are indeed, very attractive people.
I believe that they were prone to committing suicide

A quick check on wikipedia does indeed confirm that they are still partial to 'rolling a seven'
ranked number 9 in the world for suicide

Lithuania being the undisputed heavyweight champions of self slaughter, which was surprising

I thought suicide in Sweden was more or less a national sport but there they are in 18th place

check out the link, it is interesting

Law / Retirement laws in Poland [11]

I do not think that there is

I know of one Slovakian lady who married a Polish guy and she never paid in any stamp in Poland
He died and she was left without any pension at all

One of my friends looks after her and will do so until she dies and will receive her flat in return

Life / How Safe Are the Polish Cities? [179]

Polish cities are much safer than American ones

I saw an interview last week with an Afro American who said that he would feel safer walking around a KKK rally with a rope around his neck than he would feel going to his local store after dark

News / Monument gets erected when a clique rules in a small Polish town [29]

He was a disgrace to Poland

come on Delph
fairs fair
he wasnt a disgrace to Poland

he was just some dumb bastard who was trying the make the most out a position
that he was not capable of undertaking properly - I think we have all been guilty of that
from time to time - well me particularly :-)

he was a buffoon but far better than his brother who for some reason
seemed to think that he was jackie kennedy post smolensk

Classifieds / English cuisine week in Lidl shops in Poland [203]

Steamed treacle pudding and custard was/is probably my favourite desert from my junior school days.

I have to say that I have rekindled a fondness for rhubarb crumble based on your posting, so you have changed a life today for the better:-)

Or jam roly poly!

Jam roly poly has been discussed within this thread and the thread was all the richer for it

or perhaps jam roly poly was discussed in the things you love about the UK
in any case, the subject of jam roly poly has been aired

The reason is historical.

with the greatest respect that has not stopped Polish people consuming bananas and pineapple

there must be a reason why this great root vegetable is not grown in Poland

@alfred
I do not remember seeing any references to rhubarb crumble and as a result I feel that
the entire thread has been weaker as a result so I must thank you for turning the spotlight
onto rhubarb crumble

Life / Trick or treat in Poland [24]

how extraordinary

they have been trick or treating for three years straight now in our neighbourhood in Warsaw

obviously this is a phenomenom which will no doubt trickle down to the provinces in due course

stands by expecting to be flamed and rightly so

Life / Trick or treat in Poland [24]

I must say that the youths that came round were very well behaved.

we had bags of sweeties prepared and we had wave after wave of very nice kids all dressed up
asking for sweeties

next year just for a laugh I will tell them to make sure they put the sweetie wrappers in the bin
and I am sure that they will :-)

anyone else have any Polish trick or treat related stories

noticed quite a few pumpkin lamps out and about

a much needed excuse for a bit of fun prior to Stiff's Day

Well, to be fair, the best stuff is Scottish and not English. Cheddar and scampi

could you take out a road map and point to where you think Cheddar is? :-)

and whilst you are at it, please complete this sentence

'big prawns dipped in batter and fried to buggery taste better in Scotland because.......'

is it because the Scots use languostine or Dublin Bay prawns or Norway lobster tails?

@ Pawian
Haggis with mashed potato and neeps (which is a turnip like vegetable called swede) is truly excellent
I cannot understand why Poles do not grow swede. It is an excellent root vegetable
there must be a reason for this as Poles grow most things that grow in the UK
come to think of it swede is the only UK vegetable that they do not grow in Poland
then again I have not seen too many brussel sprouts over here
I know you can get them though

UK, Ireland / What do you like about living in Britain? [134]

I like sausages and I like yorkshire pudding
however the combination of the two I find utterly inedible

some poor half cremated sausage surrounded by yards of yorkshire
resembling a turd encased in polystyrene

I am sure yours is very nice but at our house toad in the hell night was not
the culinery highlight of the week

I was out shopping once in January and is was bastard cold and there
was a woman with a toddler in a stroller who was barefoot

in Poland the mother would have been horsewhipped

UK, Ireland / What do you like about living in Britain? [134]

I am serious about the pickled eggs though
years later they are banging on about them

and they are utterly revolting

no one orders them so they have probably been in the jar for years

I had one once and suffered from the worst indigestion of my entire life

but still they are not as bad as toad in the hole, that really is nasty

UK, Ireland / What do you like about living in Britain? [134]

strangely enough most Polish people become completely freaked out by pickled eggs

they seem to be utterly mesmorised by the horror of a jar of pickled eggs in a chippie

UK, Ireland / What do you like about living in Britain? [134]

ease of setting up a business
relaxed attitude towards accounting

business mentoring - having a retired businessman advising you as a hobby and giving you contacts to all their friends
Business Link - in spite of the fact that it is now run by Serco - still provides excellent advice for budding business people

car boot sales and jumble sales and the thrill of rummaging through piles of tat to get a bargain

Church fetes, mystery tours, treasure hunts and all the quintessentially naff but adorable things associated with village life

@pawian

you are nearly right....

UK, Ireland / What do you like about living in Britain? [134]

I am British but I feel for the sake of fairness I ought to mention the darker side of English cooking

We used to buy tripe from Wigan market, cook it in a white sauce and have it with mashed potato
it was truly vile.

Polish tripe (Flaki) is much tastier. I still find it difficult to eat as each spoonful brings up a lump of
cow's stomach from the depths which resembles an extra from a science fiction film about aliens

you can only say 'show me how you kiss earthman' so many times before it stops being funny

UK, Ireland / What do you like about living in Britain? [134]

there is some truly revolting traditional English food

raw tripe in vinegar
tripe in a sort of vile white sauce with unidentifiable vegetable, possibly onion
toad in the hole (better referred to as toad in the hell)
lancashire hot pot
jam roly poly
boiled beef (usually brisket with cabbage)
spotted dick

I mean the list keeps going on

as for the Ulster Fry or UF - it is infamously high in cholesterol
as Owen O Neill so wisely said, '' the UF has been responsible for more loss of Catholic life than the UDF, the UDV or any other paramilitary organisation'

Work / Working in Poland - Logistics, procurement, imports-exports [12]

I ve seen some adds in hays.pl that for ex. require greek, or italian or russian or hebrew speakers. Does anybody have any idea on their reliability and subject of working?
