Law / Cash loan in Poland without PESEL [49]

We live in a society where money talks.

This expression has always had me scratching my head. Can you provide examples of societies where money (or wealth) does not talk? Other than monasteries (and even then)?

Law / Schengen Visa Sponsored by Polish Citizen - for no less than three months [4]

how can I convince Border Police to let me stay in Poland for 3 months ?

You can't. One of the conditions is that you will leave the Schengen zone after three months, and it is painfully obvious that you have no intention to do so. No consul will ever believe otherwise, even if you do find someone foolish enough to sponsor you.

Sorry, but you stink of high risk and dishonesty, and there's nothing you can do to wash the stink out. No amount of money, and no amount of sponsors will help. Scratch the EU off of the list of places you will visit in your lifetime.

Study / Quality issues in Politechnika Wroclawska. Planning for Politechnika Warszawska. Suggestions. [48]

I have patiently explained, in great detail, out of the goodness of my heart, what the best options were for your future education and career.

Apparently, I have wasted my time. If you want to make it in this life, kid, learn to listen and think very hard about what people far more experienced than you have to say. That's my final word to you.

What do you think about MSc in Bioinformatics in Austria?

If it is not an engineering degree, you are wasting your time. Also, you are aware that bioinformatics would involve a lot of math, and you seem to be weak in math. Go back to India, take a year to really study up on your math 16 hours a day every day, and then apply to a good engineering program in India or one of the richer countries I mentioned above, and study biomedical engineering, which is a thousand times more useful than a non-engineering degree in bioinformatics.

Work / CELTA or TEFL for a job in Poland? [3]

Where are you from (citizenship)? How old are you? What is your educational background? What work experience do you have? Why do you want to teach English? And why do you want to come to Poland? The more detail you give, the better answer you will get.

Also, there are literally hundreds of answers to your and similar question posted in various threads on this site. Do some digging. There is one very long thread called "Teaching English in Poland". Or just type "teaching english" in the search box.

Law / Poland student visa refusal - 'intention to leave' [51]

Well, it's pretty simple. You failed (yes, the fault is all yours) to provide sufficient evidence that you will return to your home country before the visa runs out. I don't know what you don't understand here. It's very clear.

An appeal would probably be useless. They are going to want to see documents that clearly prove that it is in your best interest to return to your home country, like owning a business or property there. Students generally do not have such demonstrable strong ties to their home countries. Perhaps if you are an heir to a serious business or property of serious value and have the documents to prove it.

Otherwise, you'd be wasting your time and money on an appeal.

Food / Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) and its use in Poland [30]

When MSG is added, it allows them to use less of every other seasoning ingredient.

Poles use A LOT less seasoning ingredients, herbs and spices, when they cook at home. Less than a tenth of what Americans use, and a hundreth of what Mexicans or Indians use. Often little more than salt and pepper. They generally abhor foods with an assertive taste. Compare Polish "gulasz" to Hungarian gulyas, for example. They use microscopic amounts, actually. I remember one vegetable stand lady being confused because I used to by hot chile peppers by the kilo. They compensate by using MSG (Vegeta) and a lot of salt, either as table salt or as Maggi. Soups are essentially a solution of Vegeta and Maggi, with a few vegetables and a little meat thrown in.

Remember going to a friends house and being treated to his moms version of lecso. It tasted like oatmeal. We tinkered with it with the mostly long-outdated spices they had in the cupboard to make it somewhat palatable.

But the reason for using MSG isn't to save on herbs and spices. It is primarily due to the fact that Poles eat primarily low umami meats like chicken and pork, rather than beef. And factory-raised chicken and pork is particularly devoid of umami flavor, especially since they are killed when very young, before they develop any flavor. Compare chicken broth made with a storebought chicken with broth made from an old, free-range rooster you buy at the farmers market.

MSG and salt are cheap and easy ways to make an extremely bland diet somewhat palatable.

Jeez.... Hastert, Craig and all the other senators and representatives that offer oral sex to undercover policemen in airport men's rooms are Republicans. Never heard of a democrat doing that.

generally opposed to Catholicism

Ummmm... you are aware that the Catholic priesthood is the profession with the highest percentage of homosexuals, beating out hairdressers and interior decorators by a wide mile.

Love / My Polish girlfriend is pregnant by cheating on me and wants this baby without my permission. Please help. [51]

no doctor of medicine will say that it is impossible for a woman to be three month pregnant and not know she is pregnant.

Indeed. It's even possible to go into full-term labor without having suspected one is pregnant. Common enough in clinically obese women.

but for me its very important that I have a baby within a right time and with a right person.

Well. then have sex at the right time with the right person, dipwad. But noooooooo.... you had to get your rocks off with the first floozie that you stumbled upon, and got what you deserve. Twenty seven years of hard labor without the chance of parole.

Love / My Polish girlfriend is pregnant by cheating on me and wants this baby without my permission. Please help. [51]

And I was shocked!

Sex-ed at your school must have be lousy. In most countries, even little schoolchildren know that when you have sex, even with birth control, there is always a risk that you can have a baby. How naive can you be?

I really don't want to be a father at this age and also don't want a have a baby from that women.

Then why did you have sex with her? Was there any reason you could not get a vasectomy? Both parties are responsible for birth control and for any child that may result. You sound like a coward and a scoundrel, and not a grown man. It's your baby, and it would be a huge sin in the sight of God if you did not fulfill your duties as a father and support the child for the next twenty odd years.

Also, you have no right to demand that she get an abortion. That is sooooooooooooooo wrong that you are probably going to spend eternity in Hell for even thinking it. What kind of monster are you? The judge is going to rip you a new one.

Congratulations for posting the most ridiculous post I have ever seen on this site. And this site gets A LOT of ridiculous posts.

Real Estate / Shop / restaurant rent in Centralny Station in Warsaw? [5]

Do you have any experience in owning and operating gastronomic establishments? Do you have sufficient liquid capital to invest in the business and live off for the two or three or five years before the restaurant starts turning a profit? Do you have a cheap source of labor (read: family members) that are willing to work 12 to 16 hours a day, day after day, for years on end? If not, the restaurant business is probably not for you, especially in a highly competitive environment like central Warsaw.

As for retail shops, that is even more competitive.

Work / I have a contract with a Norwegian company as a sub-contractor not an employee, I want to live in Poland [12]

They are probably going to want to see that you already have sufficient funds to cover your stay and return to Gaza, rather than just contracts. They are probably going to want to see some proof of financial stability, which is going to be hard to prove if you are only 23. For immigration, they are probably going to want to see proof that you have a substantial amount of liquid capital to invest in the business. Again, the contracts you have are probably insufficient.

That's all guesswork, though, perhaps the best you can expect on a site like this. The best advice I can give is to talk to an immigration attorney with experience in dealing with the EU, or at least to the Polish Representation in Ramallah.

Study / Admitted To Warsaw University Of Technology (Politechnika Warszawska) [69]

Poland does not have much of an aerospace sector. For example, the aerospace sector of the rather small US state of Connecticut is larger than that of the whole country of Poland. Furthermore, there is very little R&D done in Poland. R&D spending per capita in Poland is only 14% of what it is in the US or South Korea, for example, and an even smaller percentage is spent on aerospace R&D.

Sorry, but there is little reason for foreigners to study in Poland. You would be just as well off if you were to stay in Malaysia and study there, and then get admitted with a scholarship or fellowship to a good graduate engineering program in the US, other English-speaking countries, the richer Western European countries like German, Switzerland or Sweden, or Japan or South Korea. See these current threads for more detail:

https://polishforums.com/study/quality-issues-politechnika-wroclawska-74688/

Also, you might want to consider studying a much better paid branch of engineering like petroleum, geological or biomedical engineering. Your lifetime savings potential would be significantly higher.

Study / Wroclaw vs Warsaw vs Cracow? - Which city is better for education? [10]

Actually, this is being discussed on another thread at the moment. Read all about it here: https://polishforums.com/study/quality-issues-politechnika-wroclawska-74688/

Short answer: There is little reason for an Indian student to study in Poland. Although the cost of tuition may seem low, the quality of education is also low, especially in programs taught in English. Also, there is very little chance that you will be able to find part-time work to finance your studies.

Job opportunities for recent grads are few and far between, and it is highly unlikely that you will find work in Poland after you graduate, or would want to stay. As far as finding work in richer countries is concerned, you would be no better off than if you graduated from a good engineering school in India. Also, if you want to study engineering, study highly paid fields like petroleum, geological or biomedical engineering rather than mechatronics. There is a lot of money spent on prospecting, and when the economy goes bad, this is one of the very few fields where spending goes up, so it is recession-proof. You could do a sub-specialty in automation if you want as part of your studies. Your lifetime savings potential would be significantly higher if you studied one of the fields I mentioned.

Either stay in India and study a highly paid specialty of engineering at a good engineering school there on the hopes of getting into a good graduate program in a richer country, or take a year off and study math, physics, chemistry and English very hard to get admitted with a scholarship to an excellent engineering school in the US, another English-speaking country, or a rich Western European country like Germany, Switzerland or Sweden. Or South Korea or Japan.

Go where the R&D dollars are. There is very little R&D done in Poland. R&D spending per capita in Poland is only 14% of that in the US or South Korea.

Coz, there are hundreds of students from different countries studying here. All of them cannot be wrong.

That's what lemmings think when they are jumping over a cliff. Sorry, buddy, for a computer science student, this is a HUGE logical failure. I do believe, though, that most of them made a poor choice, especially those from India. And I believe that most of them eventually realize it, and regret it, as you do.

Because, three of you people said three types of things.

I don't see that much disagreement. Nobody has suggested you stay in Poland and slug it out to the end. In fact, that is the one thing on which we probably agree. For what it's worth, I help Polish students get into American universities with scholarships, and spent twelve years working with Polish universities, including your school. I'm pretty aware of the state of education in Poland.

Having lived in Poland twelve years myself and having seen many, many foreigners from all parts come and go, I can tell you that if you are discontented now at such an early stage in the game, it will only grow worse, especially in your second and third year when you are doing your research project using Commodore 64s and Apple IIs held together by duct tape and bubble gum while your friends who went to study in the West are actually helping design the next generation of petacomputers. Perhaps a bit of an exaggeration, but that's how it's going to feel. That's what I mean about going where the R&D dollars are.

Secondly, if I understood you correctly, you said you were getting a non-engineering degree. This would be the perfect time to reset and get that engineering degree. Shucks, you're doing the math, anyway. Might as well get something more out of it than a piddling MSc in computer science. And since your switching into engineering anyway, might as well switch to a field that has much brighter employment prospects like petroleum, geological or biomedical engineering.

I'm sorry, but the only reasons you have given for staying in Poland are lack of ambition, lack of initiative, lack of imagination and lack of self-esteem. And desperation. You seem to be driven by inertia like the Titanic into the iceberg, or like a desperate gambler into the poor house. Or like a lemming into the sea.

Snap out of it. Get a grip on reality, talk to some of your colleagues who are studying in the rich countries of Western Europe or the English speaking countries, as well as those studying at the better universities in India. There is nothing wrong in quitting a game you will most probably end up losing anyway. Prepare for the GRE, beef up that math and English, explore high-quality engineering programs at top schools flooded by R&D dollars rather than wasting away in someplace where you are unhappy and dissatisfied, and never will be happy and satisfied.

The problem I see is that you will continue to grow even more dissatisfied in the coming years and eventually quit your studies in Poland anyway, so that time and money would be wasted in a place where you don't want to be. From what you have written above, you are going to eventually hate studying in Poland, and it could have a major demoralizing effect on you.

I'm dead serious about everything I wrote. I don't do irony. Also, I've been very consistent in the tone and content of my answers. Can't see why you would think otherwise.

To be clear: Yes, I do think that it would be best for you to quit your studies in Poland, return to India, and study hard so that you can get into a good Indian or American university with a scholarship.

I am also serious about you becoming even less satisfied with your studies in Poland in the coming years should you stay. I was serious about not seeing a rosy future for you in Poland.

So, I am wondering it would be better to start from the scratch.

Indeed. It would probably be better for you to go back to India, study your sweet little tush off for the GRE, and apply for a merit scholarship to a good engineering program in the US. Or to get into a good engineering school in India. Either way, you'll probably be more satisfied than if you were to stay in Poland.

Good luck with that!

I don't qualify for that. I didn't appear for GRE test.

Is there some reason why you could not study for it now to get a high grade and apply to a good engineering school in the US?

Pardon me for saying so, but I'm seeing an unambitious whiner who likes to complain about the bad situation he's in rather than doing something concrete and practical about improving it. Perhaps returning to India is indeed your best option. I don't see a rosy future for you in Poland, and I expect that you will eventually quit anyway, so why not right now? Why prolong your suffering when there is no or little hope in sight? Why chase good money (and time) after bad?

If I had enough money to go to UK or USA, I would have never come to Poland.

Actually, studying in the US can be much cheaper than studying in Poland. You can qualify for a full-ride merit scholarship that covers all tuition, fees and living expenses, or find work that significantly covers part or all of your expenses. That is pretty much out of the question in Poland.

That thing in common is that they study in Polish, not in English.

Agree that the English-language programs are usually inferior.

The program is mostly theoretical

A MAJOR complaint of all STEM students in Poland, compounded with the fact that the theory taught is often outdated or otherwise not that relevant anymore, if it ever was. Theoretical courses are cheap for the university. Practical courses cost a fortune.

Their syllabus is predominantly composed of math

For that you should be grateful. It will make it easier for you to transfer to a good engineering program. Math courses are also the most portable. You can get recognition for the work done if you return to India, so that much of your time has not been wasted. You're going to have a much harder time transferring credit for the other courses.

get a starter level job in some corporation that will hire anyone with a pulse

That's where I lose you. Finding a job in Poland is quite a challenge, and there are few, if any, companies that hire anyone with a pulse. I do agree, though, that this is what must be going through the heads of a lot of the foreigners who come to study in Poland.

@Gość: I agree completely. With rare exceptions, there is little reason for a foreigner to come to study or work in Poland.

@OP: You haven't answered my question about returning to India. If you are not satisfied with the level of technical university education in Poland so early in your student career, it is only going to get worse for the reasons I gave above. It might be best to cut your losses and not chase good money after bad.

PS: Does the Polish government attract them to "bother" Western European countries since it is obvious that those foreigners mean to move West?

If Poland goes through the trouble and expense of providing those foreigners with engineering degrees, then Western countries will not be at all bothered. They will gladly take in all they can get. The advanced countries have a voracious appetite for engineers.

You might want to try applying again, as well as for schools in other Western European and English-speaking countries.

As you progress in your studies, you are going to encounter greater difficulties, regardless of the school you go to in Poland. These are the chief gripes I hear a lot from Polish engineering students:

1) Practical courses are abysmal, with obsolete equipment that is jealously guarded by uncooperative professors and very tight budgets.

2) There is little cooperation between universities and local business and industry, which greatly reduces opportunities for networking and finding internships and jobs.

3) There is very little R&D done in Poland. For example, the aerospace R&D budget of the small US state of Connecticut is larger than that of the entire country of Poland. Interesting and well-paid jobs gravitate to where the R&D dollars go, so do your research and find out where that is in the area you are interested in.

Also, an MS in computer science is worth a lot less than a masters in engineering in same. And of all the engineering specialties, IT is one of the lowest paid and has one of the lowest lifetime savings potentials because India churns out IT engineers by the thousands. Consider switching to fields that are much better paid like petroleum, geological or biomedical engineering. Or getting an IT engineering degree from an excellent school in a Western European or English speaking country that receives lots of cutting-edge R&D dollars, which often means military applications, and specialize in something exotic.

Study / Study in Lublin - what is the student life here? Any racism? Accommodation and part time job possibilities. [17]

When were you last here? Probably ages ago. I see it more and more.

I doubt things have changed much in the past year. Foreign students rarely find jobs, and holding out the possibility as a real chance is cruel.

Stop trying to discourage anyone who wants to study in Poland.

Whyever should I do that? Whyever would you think the OP should flush his money down the toilet and waste valuable years of his life getting a fake "degree" from a fake "university"?

No matter how you cut it, Poland is rarely the best place for a foreigner to study. It's rarely near the top of the list, with precious few exceptions, of which the IP is not one.
