News / Ultra nationalist protest at death camp in Poland - serious mistake? [146]

Well..the camp is still there, I'm sure they can re-use it...

Yes, that is the first thought that comes to mind when hearing about the protest.

And then nationalists and radicals are surprised when the world media talk about all Poles as antisemites - that`s how opinions are created today - through stereotypes and generalisations. Then nationalists demand apologies and the truth . The saddest thing is they don`t realise they are one of the reasons of such propaganda.

I have lived so long in this world but still can`t comprehend that some people can be so unable to predict the consuequences of their actions.

News / Ultra nationalist protest at death camp in Poland - serious mistake? [146]

I consider myself to be a Polish Nationalist. you can call me a radical :-)

"Radical" means you are ready to use extreme (even brutal) methods in order to convince people to your ideas and eventually put them into practice so that they become law which limits the rights of certain group, e.g., Jews. So, are you radical or not? .

Piotr Rybak has nothing to do and neither he represents National Movement [Ruch Narodowy], nor he was a member of ONR or MW.

I need to refresh your memory. The man you are talking about took part in marches and demos organised by ONR in the past. It is enough to connect him with those nationalist organisations.

natemat.pl/195091,brawo-sad-spalil-kukle-zyda-na-demonstracji-narodowcow-pojdzie-siedziec-na-10-miesiecy

Uncle Good Advice. Do it yourself rather than tell other what they should, shouldn't,

Actually, I do and quite a lot. But I won`t show you because you wouldn`t appreciate it anyway. One day, when you grow up.

Here`s the way that they can propagate the Polish cause. Check this video, there are more, I just got a link from the group..

youtube.com/watch?v=aTjuBgDDJb0

shooting down anyone is active and DOES something

The problem is that doing such things is indecent so don`t expect to be praised for doing them just becasue you are doing SOMETHING. If I come and spit into your soup during your lunchtime or sit opposite you, belch and pick my nose, will you consider me a good chap? Those protesters did a similar thing.

Well, that someone has been spiting in your face many times in the past. However people like you pretend that is a rain.

Does it mean you have to pay back with the same measure?

It is a Good thing if someone would spit back

Then don`t be surprised when one day nationalist Russians come to Katyn and protest against the Polish cemetery. I expect you will approve the act.

There should be a tit for tat.

In the previous post I suggested you grow up. Then you will understand that tit for tat approach doesn`t solve any problems but only makes them worse. I am really amazed you don`t get such obvious things.

News / Ultra nationalist protest at death camp in Poland - serious mistake? [146]

euractiv.com/section/central-europe/news/far-right-protest-overshadows-auschwitz-camp-liberation-commemoration

It is the first time that nationalists stage a protest on the day when the anniversary of the death camp liberation is celebrated. Also, it was the International Holocaust Victims Remembrance Day.

My purely private commentary:
Now, imagine that some patriotic Poles come to Katyn Massacre cemetery in Russia to honour executed Polish officers and some fiercely nationalist Russians come, too, and hold a protest demonstration. Everybody knows that Polish Russian relations are tense, so such a situation is quite probable. I can imagine what international scandal would break out - Polish and world media would go virtually mad, accusing all Russians of rabid Polonophobia, lack of any morals, ignorance of basic values and sensitivity, etc etc.

That is why I consider that yesterday`s Polish radical nationalist protest in Auschwitz Birkenau as utterly stupid.

I can understand their motifs. Yes, the Polish contribution and suffering during WW2 has been forgotten and neglected for decades - first, during communist times, and later too. When asked about a rising in Warsaw during the war, most people in the world point to Warsaw Ghetto Rising 1943, instead of much more important Warsaw Rising 1944.

But it is not the fault of Jews that their Ghetto Rising and general suffering is better remembered and popularised in the world. It is the fault of Poles who can`t propagate their cause well enough - either they don`t do it at all or they do it ineffectively.

Trying to make people in the world aware of the Polish cause during the WW2 can`t be done by means of such dirty methods as protests on a special day when we should commemorate the death of a nation. 90% Polish Jews were exterminated so we can say that the whole nation was doomed to perish.

Dear nationalist Poles, get down to work and start making the world aware of important facts through positive information campaigns. Such events as yesterday don`t help, quite the opposite, they tarnish the image of all Poles which is unfair because most of us aren`t radical nationalists - in national elections, far right parties get 1% votes, no more.

Instead of spitting into somebody`s face and demanding the world to accept it as a method of solving problems, do sth positive instead. Propagate the Polish cause in wiser and more appropriate, culturally acceptable ways.

You should eventually understand that doing what you have done actually makes you similar/close to German perpetrators, and that`s certainly not what you are intent on.

PS. The article didn`t mention the words of the main organiser: It is time to fight against Jewry.

Life / Your favorite Chopin piece / Chopin Competition in Poland [23]

Merged: Chopin Competition in Warsaw Poland

I am listening to performances on 4th day of 17th edition of Chopin Competition. Critics claim that the pianists are technically perfect. What matters, then, to win the competition, is this sublime impalpable atmosphere they create with their music.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Chopin_Piano_Competition
The International Chopin Piano Competition (Polish: Międzynarodowy Konkurs Pianistyczny im. Fryderyka Chopina), often referred to as the Chopin Competition, is a piano competition held in Warsaw, Poland. It was initiated in 1927 and has been held every five years since 1955. It is one of few competitions devoted entirely to the works of a single composer,[1] in this case, Frédéric Chopin.

Life / Expats` opinion on alien immigration to Poland - for or against? [87]

Ok, my choice of pics could be misleading. I admit I focused on Muslims because their case is the most conspicuous currently.

How about immigrants from other ethnicities/nations?
Ukrainian people are the most numerous.
See how Ukrainians storm the Polish Ukrainian border crossing:

They stay and find employment here:

Chicken production

Window factory

Farms
Raspberries

Lettuce

Ukrainian TV footage: Ukrainian gastarbeiters in Poland

Ukrainian tips how to obtain a work permit in Poland

etc etc

Discussion turned into meaningless talk unrelated to Poland - thread closed.

Travel / Polish people and their windbreakers on the beach [9]

I have been with company, both in the cinema and the woods.

You seem to watch too many movies, I am afraid. :):) E.g., The Day of Screwball, with a scene on the beach:

Come on , it is only a film. :)

News / Poland: A Successful case of low criminality in Europe? [97]

What makes that difference be so huge?

I read a historical book on crime and law enforcement in Poland since Middle Ages. Crime rate for all major offences has always been much lower in Poland than in Western Europe, throughout centuries.

Life / Expats` opinion on alien immigration to Poland - for or against? [87]

I have a vague feeling that Polish voices prevail over foreign expat opinions in this thread. Well, I could be mistaken.

I met a British teacher during a conference in Krakow. He said he wouldn`t like to stay in Poland for longer time because it looked boring to him - extremely homogenous society, all whites, one and the same culture everywhere etc. He was really fond of multiracial crowds in his country. Despite tensions, he believed immigration enriches the country. He spoke about Polish immigrants very warmly. Polish immigrant kids excell in his British school in all subjects, except English. :):)

I think this is the area where bison grass is picked for Żubrówka vodka?

Yes, exactly. Although the truth is that you can grow your own Bison grass. Be careful, though, it spreads worse than standard weeds.

Food / Where can i find turnips (rzepa) in Poznan? [8]

I am having problem finding turnips, but i didn't search thoroughly . they don't have it in biedronka, Lidl , Piotr i pawel and the rynek near my place (rynek Wildecki), does anyone have an idea where i can search for them ?

In Krakow, I regularly buy black turnip in Carrefour market. There must be a few in Poznań too. However, you`d better be a fussy picker as they like selling stale stuff.

lipka tatars were very few.took them centuries to assimilate..lots of trouble with them, pillaging, murdering, disloyalty ect.

I hope it isn`t based solely on Sienkiewicz`s theme of Mr Azja T. ? :)

here your tatars joining ottomans against Poland, only to switch side when ottomans didnt give them same money and benefits as poland.

Ooops, it seems I guessed correctly you based your opinion on events which took place 400 years ago and later in 19 century were described by a famous Polish writer in the most popular novel ever.

Sorry, but we live in 21st century.

Muslim are Muslim and they will not fit into country like Poland. Very few - maybe, few more - no thank you!

But Poland already has theTatar minority which integrated perfectly despite being Muslim. Won`t new refugees assimilate easily too?

rferl.org/content/poland-lipka-tatars-coexistence/25059637.html

"It's difficult for a small nation like the Tatars to influence such a large nation -- one where 97 percent of people are of the same denomination," he says. "Here there is a threat for the Tatar people -- that they assimilate even too much with the Polish nation in terms of culture and even religion. And this is a threat to our small community."

---the pictures that were posted aren't related to syrians in a sense that :
1-you won't see masses praying in the streets
2-you won't see syrians rallying to impose sharia law or whatsoever

Thank you for dissipating stereotyped fears. Actually, Poles don`t discern such sublime differences between groups of refugees/immigrants.

Put me in the against column.

Sure. Thanks for sharing your opinion.

Too many risks, high costs and no undisputed benefits.

But it is claimed that immigrants contribute to country`s development and prosperity. E.g., in Germany which is so willing to accept refugees.

wsj.com/articles/study-finds-germany-is-benefitting-from-immigration-1417103495

Foreigners paid on average €3,300 ($4,127) more in taxes and social security contributions in 2012 than they took out in benefits, generating a €22 billion surplus for the public coffers that year,

News / The shame of Duda making late night visits to Kaczyński [79]

First of all, it's absolutely shameful that the President (and Head of State) should be making visits to anyone like this.

I agree. That was pathetic. I hope it will influence some Polish preferences during elections.

What cultural heritage ?

What do you mean by that? Educate yourself instead of flouting your ignorance in here. Ignorance is nothing to be proud off.

Alf probably suggests that Poland`s cultural heritage is too poor to attract native Poles and make them stay in the country instead of going to live abroad.

Life / Expats` opinion on alien immigration to Poland - for or against? [87]

Why posting only negative pictures? Do you think Western Europe looks like this? Trust me, it does NOT.

Hmm..... I am afraid your computer failed to open all the pics I posted. Check it, please. :)

Of course I DO realise it does NOT always look so.

This concerns Polish culture not expat guests in Poland so your question is pointless.

Excuse me, sir, my question isn`t pointless, it is a justified produce of the dillemma which nurtures me. I don`t care about Polish opinion because I already know it. I want to know expats` opinions.

It seems I got to know yours as first. Thank you very much for your cooperation.

Life / Expats` opinion on alien immigration to Poland - for or against? [87]

I would like to ask expats residing in Poland if they support alien immigration to this country. Alien means racially, culturally and religiously different than Poles themselves.

Polish public opinion is fairly united on the issue: various polls reveal that the vast majority of Poles don`t support mass foreign immigration from exotic, culturally alien countries.

"We don't want terrorists here," the Polish pensioner says, when asked about EU plans to resettle refugees more broadly across the continent. "Have you seen what they're doing in the west?"

theguardian.com/world/2015/jul/02/poles-dont-want-immigrants-they-dont-understand-them-dont-like-them

They fear that the problems already present in Western Europe might also take place in Poland - religious and political radicalism, imposition of alien customs, refusal of integration, social tensions etc.

So, the question is: would you prefer Poland to stay such as now:

or have nothing against such views as you can see in :

UK

s

Germany

Sweden

etc etc
don`t forget those drastic ones, too, e.g.,

France

riot

Holland

etc etc

Feedback / Alterations of thread titles - automatic or moderated? [10]

One user creates a topic; hundreds or thousands may read it. Who wins? :)

Yes, you are right. Indeed, I feel so overwhelmed by hundreds and thousands of accidental readers that I have given up. Nec Hercules contra plures. :):)

It's been there for about 8 years now.

Out-of-the-blue sticking to the rules set 8 years ago but ignored so far isn`t a move for a better forum in my opinion.

I spent the last several days going through thousands of topics to make sure the titles are correct.

You deserve real credit for that, indeed.

But...

So you're right that we didn't care too much about topic titles in the Off-topic section in the past, but that's going to change.

...I would be really on cloud nine if you cared for antiPolish trolling in the forum in the same way as you are going to care about topic titles.. :):)

When you create a new thread, you are supposed to be like a reporter. A reporter's goal is to present the content in a logical, relevant, and easy to follow way.

No, I strongly disagree. Setting this rule for posters to be like reporters you constrain the ones who want to be like bloggers from time to time. That was the idea behind these threads of mine like: "It hurts" etc - mock microblogging with versatile light content.

Would you read a newspaper that feature titles like: "Funny!", "Weather", "Good one", "Problem", "War", "Winning", "Pitty" etc.? I'm sure you would not.

I would if they were created by an intelligent person. :):):)

Then put yourself in the position of your readers too.

I care about readers who are frequent visitors to the forum and who know who is who and what is what here. I don`t care about accidental tourists who drop by once a year.

That way everybody will be happy :

No, I am not happy about it. During my previous voluntary suspensions I missed the forum very much and couldn`t wait to rejoin . Now I don`t give a sh..t and the only reason I come round is the need to reproduce some relevant info from my posts here in order to use somewhere else.

PS. I am really appalled by my lack of interest in the forum as it is now. Does it mean I have stopped being young in heart and become an old fogy instead? :(:(:(: It is a completely new situation for me and I still don`t know how to deal with it..... Sorry, guys, I hope things will change for better...
