USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

Foods at any restaurants are coming out of can, the tasty marinara sauce in Italian place, the Italian beef, the sauce on your veggies in Chinese place, the frozen fries in most fast food places - all made to make your taste buds scream with flavor.
Polish foods (cooked at home) are WHOLE FOODS, not much out of a can.

You are right, however, when was the last time you were in Poland? Any McD's, KFC or Kebab shop has a line up out the door- at any hour during the day.

Fast Polish food is becoming normal. There are potatoes in a box, pre made cutlet, krokiety, salads- everything. The people are getting fatter fast.
I have lived here for 9 years- the first year, everybody was thin and now there are fatties everywhere.

Life / What is with Polish and their indoor plants? [26]

Evey office, bank. car test centre the doctors the dentist hotels EVRYWHERE I went It felt like I was in a jungle. Why is there so many plants over growing what is this obession and why. Even my mother inlaw's indoor jungle has over run the house I flet like swinging across the kitchen like Tarzan.
Any one else noticed this and can explain it

I think it has to do with the fact that during communism things were so grey and they needed life brought into their homes. I hate it. My mother in law in Canada has these plants too- you can take the girl out of Poland but you can't take Poland out of the girl.

Life / Racism and for what? (story of Egyptian guy's living in Poland) [149]

You differentiate between "Polska A i B" ....!?

Poland A and B is not racist.

Why is hoping to educate somebody arrogant?

I believe I have a right to say what my opinion is- and make an observation based on the amount of time I have lived here and my experiences with the general population.

Of course you do, as does anyone else. While you are not a short timer, you are nonetheless not Polish and have no more right to tell another Polish person what to think or say than I have to tell you what to think or say. You dismissed one person's right to an opinion and say what she wants yet tout yours. It comes across as hypocritical.

It is not an opinion when it is total bullsh*t. Arabs don't smell any more than any Polish family after consuming their Sunday obiad.

Her statement was pure stupidity and nothing more. Going in to the Kebab shop and judging somebody because they smell of the food after serving Polish people all day is obtuse. I am willing to bet this twat made this observation after meeting one Arab.

And once again the double standard of Poland for Poles- yet Poles can live the fcuk wherever they want and have the right to an opinion of the host country is exhausting.

Love / Polish women USED TO BE much more attractive: [162]

No. Sugar is a pure carbohydrate. One of the six classes of nutrients.

ok- but what people are eating are totally refined and full of chemicals. I mean glucose, fructose, corn syrup. I am not talking about natural sugars found it fruits and vegetable.

A diet high in refined foods is causing the obesity epidemic. People don't get fat from eating too much fruit. To many chocolates, frozen pizzas, white bread- this is what makes people fat.

How many children do you see with black teeth? This is not specific to income- in fact in my experience those that make more money, particularly Poland B, in Warsaw, have the fattest kids with black teeth.

Eating too much sugar -the excess turns into fatty acids and is stored as fat in the body.
Too much salt will dehydrate you.
A diet consisting of chocolate cereals and nutella for breakfast, followed by a stop at McDonalds and then white bread, frozen pizzas is what is making Poland fat. Poland only needs to look to the west to see what happens if you eat too much KFC, Burger King and McDonalds.

Salty snacks are more harmful, I believe.

actually- you are wrong. Sugar has ZERO nutritional value. It also effects behaviour- particularly children and specifically boys.

Life / Racism and for what? (story of Egyptian guy's living in Poland) [149]

actually I would like to educate them all.

Polish people can think and say whatever they want in their own country.

If you are making reference to me- I speak Polish. All my friends are Polish. I have lived here for 9 years-I am a permanent resident. My kids are Polish, my husband is Polish. I believe I have a right to say what my opinion is- and make an observation based on the amount of time I have lived here and my experiences with the general population.

Life / Racism and for what? (story of Egyptian guy's living in Poland) [149]

I have a huge issue with Poles that live outside of Poland yet have a double standard with others immigrating to Poland.

I have a story for you.

Friday night I was at a party. A bunch of us were sitting around a table chatting. This one girl, clearly Poland B, was chatting how she doesn't like Arabs. They stink she said. I looked at her and I said in English "This is fcuking sh*t" It was awkward to say the least- I don't think she had a clue however- she was very stupid. So later that evening I was talking to my friends how I was really pissed that she said this. My friend actually talked me down saying this girl is young and stupid and she hasn't been outside of Warsaw- don't worry about it. Not all Polish people think this.

The point is- some people are stupid. And sometimes we have the unfortunate occurrance of running into one or a few of them.

I find that in Warsaw there are a lot of stupids because there is a lot of Poland B here- villagers who have flocked to the city after the war. I don't have a problem with Poland B but I do have a problem with stupidity and deciding you are better because your skin is lighter.

It wasn't that long ago that Germans thought that all Slavs were 2nd to the Arian race- perhaps this should be remembered.

have you not seen the gut on the Polish male? I agree with the feeding the children horrible food, however it is not just the fault of the mother. In my opinion it is a form of child abuse.

Work / Polish salaries - New statistics [38]

I think this chart is quite misleading. It doesn't take into account that the population is quite evenly spread throughout the country- those of us who live in cities have a different income that those in smaller towns and villages. And the fact that the cost of living is much higher in cities.

It doesn't take into account people that have kept ownership of their apartments after communism fell. The pay very low property taxes and fees- yet basically own their apartments outright so they have more disposable income.

So even if a person makes 2200 pln per month but doesn't pay a mortgage- they may have more cash available than somebody that earns 8000 pln but has a mortgage and car payment.

Life / Racism and for what? (story of Egyptian guy's living in Poland) [149]

So racism is a phenomena experienced by non whites only????

I never said that. In Poland I would say that it is experienced by non whites and foreigners in general. I know when we go out (we are a bilingual family- my husband only speaks polish to the kids and I only speak English) people stare- I mean blatantly stare at us- I think it is generally rude because many Poles have never met foreigners directly but the original post is talking about something different.

Food / Ever try Stawski beer? [8]

could be. I like the non pasteurized- it doesn't give me a headache the next day- so many of the beer that used to be good got taken out by Carlesburg and Heinekin that the tastes and quality have been altered.

USA, Canada / Moving from United Kingdom to USA. Is it worth it? [136]

Wikipedia has the charts, if you are middle class, you real income has been stagnant for decades. Most people are not getting richer.

but even being middle class has its difficulties- too much money for some things and not enough for others- by this I mean health care.

I think it is more difficult for the middle class in the U.S. than anywhere else in the world.

Life / You are Polish if... [433]

You have uncles and aunts which are not your real uncles and aunts but just your parent's friends ;)

I despise this. I don't understand why this is done. Neither does my husband and he is Polish.

USA, Canada / Moving from United Kingdom to USA. Is it worth it? [136]

I think the u.s. would be a good place to live if you are ultra rich.

But, if you are hopelessly middle class (and there is nothing wrong with that!!) a better bet would be Canada, Australia, New Zealand or out of London. This is of course you speak English. I would move to Stockholm in a heartbeat if it was possible- Sweden and Scandinavia in general really take care of its citizens.

Food / Ever try Stawski beer? [8]

It is brewed and bottled by Van Pur in Poland- which is one of the big monopolies. I have never seen it here- but it looks to me like it is made specifically for Stawski to be sold in the u.s.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

What about Poles abroad, how do you feel about them driving down the price of labour or living 20 to a flat and driving up the cost of rents?

It is the classic Polish double standard- don't you know yet??

I didn't see any Polish builders lowering their prices so that the consumer can save a few zlots. They are just as greedy as any foreign investor.

Life / Is it me or do people "seem" to live longer in Poland? Life expectancy among Poles. [52]

you are absolutely right. I don't know when your last visit to Poland was- but the people are getting fatter here too. And at an alarming rate. it seems to have started right when Poland joined the EU.

But if you only buy fresh fruits and veg and properly raised meats than you will be fine. Dairy in North America (for the masses) is not good quality- bottom line, know what you put in your body.

USA, Canada / Moving from United Kingdom to USA. Is it worth it? [136]

Not if his dream is to purchase an affordable house, which is what he just stated. He'd be better off in the US. Funny how you rip on the US with every post, why don't you tell him about how many of you cross the border merely to shop in the US?

you must have me mixed up with somebody else. I don't rip on the US. Our dollar is quite strong- this is why all the cross border shopping. the u.s. economy needs it.

botox is huge here. haven't you seen Botox express in your local mall?? and the women botox the hell out of their faces- like who are you trying to kid. seriously?

my nana is 91- she lives in New Brunswick in her own apartment. My husbands grandfather is 92- he lives in Sopot, also on his own.

I stand by my statement. Generally speaking Europeans look older than North Americans- but North Americans are fatter.
