Work / Paramedic salary in Poland [69]

There's always alternative therapies (Poles are suckers for this sort of thing), however there's the language issues again, along with the market for this being in the larger cities - a long way from his rural idyll.

That's exactly it. He wants the rural tranquil life, but the only thing he can realistically do is to live in the city.

Law / Status of Protocol 12 to the European Convention on Human Rights [63]

A person I know lived and worked in Poland for years, but was unable to get recognition of citizenship by descent due to the hostility of the Polish bureaucrats.

Seems unlikely. Anyone with a genuine claim to Polish citizenship would have no problems obtaining it.

If they "lived and worked in Poland" for years, they would have known that permanent residency can be granted to those descended from Poles, and that you only need to live for 3 years with a permanent residence permit to get citizenship.

Yes, Poland has no interest in granting citizenship automatically to people with vaguely Polish names from North America, and nor should they.

Feedback / Why would Polishforum be banned on a server [24]

Is that just your personal propaganda opinion or do you have some evidence that could substantiate such a silly statement ?

Given that he's banned for life, the evidence is right there.

How iw thst oossibly pf can track you or your device across networks?

They don't need to. There's only really a handful of major internet providers in Poland, most of which present a single IP for all their users.

If it was in Warsaw, there's a very high chance that the poster known as "Deep" got it banned during one of his many incoherent drunken tirades.

Life / Health cover for a married couple in Poland [70]

It seems a lot of money to pay 800zl per month for 2 people for public cover

100 euro/month for comprehensive healthcare sounds like a bargain to me.

Couldn't agree more with you. Especially as he thinks that Poles aren't obsessed with money, which, well...

He should explore all of them, and perhaps use a little lateral thinking - there may be an option that hasn't yet occurred to him.

A left field suggestion - he should look for work with a startup in the medical field. Could potentially be very well paying, especially if he can sell.

Work / Paramedic salary in Poland [69]

Start as you mean to go on, its your law or the door.

Yes, this is crucial, as is not living within easy reach of the grandparents and other family. He might think it's nice that they visit the grandparents every Sunday, but it will soon grate when the grandfather is stuffing the child full of sweets and fizzy drinks.

Very often these types would sell their grandmothers for ten zloty, but you know this from the outset, so if you understand this and alter your approach its not a problem.

The thing is that it's not even patalogia in many cases, it's just a different approach to family relations - but for most Westerners, it can be suffocating.

what makes you think moving to a different country will help you and your family values?

I'm wondering the same. What might seem nice on holiday will be a totally different story once you have to deal with drunken cousins and interfering grandparents.

Law / Last will in Poland - (can a stranger inherit everything?) [40]

I can't understand how she was never informed of this when her mother died, she would have had a will or even if not don't they contact anyone who can inherit?

Usually the spouse inherits everything at this point, so there would have been no reason to tell her.

In this case, you should find a lawyer willing to take the case on for no-win-no-fee. I've got a contact to one that will do it - the fees if you win will be quite high, but they won't charge you a thing before the conclusion of the process.

Work / 10 Years Exp With Data Warehouse, Machine Learning and Big Data Salary For Krakow [15]

Generally, good jobs are advertised solely by word of mouth, face to face in the real world. Internet sites and recruiters get the table scraps.

That is the case for most jobs, but in the IT world, there's simply not enough talented people in Poland to do things like that. There are plenty of IT companies out there who are openly paying large bounties for talented developers and salespeople.

Work / Paramedic salary in Poland [69]

in that time I've imagined pay scales, terms and conditions etc have changed, hopefully for the better.

Not much has changed in medicine in that time, actually. Salaries remained pretty static, because the NFZ budget hasn't increased very much.

... a genuine family bond that used to exist in Ireland but because of the former Celtic tiger material and monetary values came to the fore leaving the true meaning of the family unit or community in its wake.

Trust me when I tell you that there is no such thing as genuine family values in Poland. There are *many* people like you who thought the same, only to discover that they were quickly drawn into family feuds, gossiping and a lot of ridiculous behaviour from the in-laws. For instance, what will you do if your mother-in-law takes your child to the doctor for medical treatment without your knowledge or consent? Or what will you do if your child spends hours in the company of your father-in-law, who is smoking like a chimney with his mates and your child comes home smelling like a chimney?

It will be only worse if you have to work abroad, because they will impose their values on the child and ignore yours.

Our lives revolve around work, working to make ends meet, working to pay bills etc, like the hundreds of thousands of other families in both Ireland and Poland. I for one am growing weary of it.

That's pretty much exactly like Poland. Polish families have among the lowest level of personal savings in Europe.

I'm not interested in making millions but instead just enough for a comfortable life with my family.

What would be a comfortable life for you?

Work / Paramedic salary in Poland [69]

If it's a non-starter he needs to look at other ways forward.

He might actually be better investigating if he can somehow transfer his skills to a job in the Middle East - I've got a friend who works out there as a mental health nurse dealing with severe cases, and he works 6 months out there at a time, then 6 months in the Czech Republic. Seems to work for him.

Work / Paramedic salary in Poland [69]

I suspect that the quality of life in PL is one of the things that attracts him. The way forward for him could be short contracts in UK/RoI that will allow him to spend time in PL.

Would he really earn enough on short term contracts as a paramedic in the UK/RoI to support living in the UK and supporting a family in PL too?

Work / Paramedic salary in Poland [69]

You'll barely make enough to survive on your own, and perhaps not even that.

I don't always agree with you, but this is spot on. There's no way that he's going to be able to afford anything, unless he moves to somewhere deep in Eastern Poland where no-one sane wants to live. Even then, there aren't many jobs for paramedics in that part of the world. And he has no chance of surviving in a big city on a paramedic salary.

This is some sort of a joke, isn't it?

It's the classic tourist observation. He hasn't seen the reality, because everyone hides it from him during holidays in Poland.

Good honest innocent rearing of kids in a family based community!!

A word of warning: that same "family based community" can be very, very dark. For instance, if an uncle molests your child, don't expect the family to take your side, or to support you with reporting him to the police. The same goes if your brother-in-law scams you, and don't forget that as a Westerner, you'll be automatically assumed to be much wealthier than everyone else.

Where do you want to move to?

Yes, the thing here is that you know exactly what you are talking about when it comes to the oil and gas industry.

Work / Relocate to Lodz Poland [30]

Did you not read that he will receive an allowance for settling in? Anyway, a ticket from Cairo to Warsaw is cheap as chips.

Yes, and the fact that they're paying an allowance suggests that he is in demand.

Many have to, however on that salary he need not be one of them.

Dominic will no doubt be along soon to tell us that he needs to live in a luxury apartment block with a swimming pool.

Yes. And in his field, the admin side of petrochemicals, having overseas experience distinguishes his CV from those thousands who don't.

There's certainly plenty of opportunity in petrochemicals in Poland for someone like him.

Work / Relocate to Lodz Poland [30]

And airfare and other travel expenses, and visa fees, and the fees for his residency permit. All of which have to be covered by his earnings.

Airfares aren't expensive from Egypt, even if you book for next week on a one way ticket. Schengen visas aren't so expensive, nor are residence permits.

Saving money for achieve those goals is a high priority for them.

No sign of it being a high priority for him. More to the point, nowhere has he said that he wants any of the things that you mentioned. You've put the words in his mouth and used it to try and put him off Poland. His salary might not be so high in the beginning, but there's no reason why he can't double that salary within 3 years if he applies himself. He'll also be in Łódź, which means that he can easily apply for far better paying opportunities in Warsaw. He'll figure it out if saving money really is his priority.

I think you are failing to understand the difference between young people from rich Western countries, who can afford to goof around, and those from less privileged backgrounds.

I understand them perfectly, which is why moving to Europe makes a lot of sense from his point of view. Poland offers huge career opportunities right now, something that will be in short supply in Egypt.

And the cost of relocation!! He's a young single man - his cost of relocation is a suitcase.

I sometimes get the impression that Dominic is failing to understand the differences between being a young person and having significant responsibilities.

Work / Opening a kindergarten / daycare business in Poland [12]

maybe this same experience will provide us with a better grant% from the EU

I wouldn't rely much on EU grants - the process is very difficult, and it favours those who have the know-how to write successful applications. But yes, I'd strongly recommend that she gets a couple of years experience. A good idea is to work in a normal kindergarten, and volunteer to assist with paperwork/bureaucracy issues to get hands-on experience.

Alternatively, what other business opportunities are available with a capital of 70k

In which currency?

Work / Relocate to Lodz Poland [30]

I am 27 years old now, i think that i would be a good experience for me to be working in a multinational company in a European country

Go for it. There's a lot of opportunity in Poland for progressing in your career, and if you are any good, you can expect to rise quite quickly through the corporate ranks.

Real Estate / The coming Real estate correction in Poland. [20]

1. There has been an over build of Osiedles.

There most certainly hasn't in many big cities. Demand still outstrips supply.

2. Luxury property has seen a 100% increase in value over the last 18 months.

Source?

3. Real estate agents are now pushing suburban areas with good rail connections to the center.

Nothing new there. The railway networks are getting better and better, and many of the best sites have already been built on in cities.

Law / What if a foreigner doesnt want to get retired in Poland ? Retirement money back? [16]

There's no 10 year limit, I only used that as an example. Poland pays out pensions from the first contribution, and yes, there are people receiving less than 1zł monthly in pensions.

It's all explained nicely here: ssa.gov/international/Agreement_Pamphlets/polish.html

And yes, contributions made in Poland contribute towards a US pension and vice-versa.

Until you remember that many of them are still heavily polluted.

Life / Poland: Last Bastion of Europe [54]

Anthem of Yugoslavia, inspired by Polish national anthem and Pan-Slavic anthem

It's a very nice anthem Crow.

Maybe you can answer a question for me? Was there a common Serbo-Croat version of the anthem, or did they use different versions for the Western and Eastern variants of Serbo-Croat?

News / Polish man tries to sell British mother into white slave trade [128]

This one will run and run. The tabloids will be full of it too, not least because of the photos of her that they can print.

They're having a field day with it, not least because it seems that much of it isn't adding up.

Real Estate / Buying an apartment at auction in Poland. Owners still present [11]

near Zakopane. Or the mountain areas.

Instead of looking at such places, why not look at something more off the beaten trail, but equally nice? For instance, try Namestovo in Slovakia. It's in the mountains, the town is nice, and yet prices are a fraction of what you'll pay in Polish resorts.
