Life / Moving to Krakow (and other questions) [23]

1500 is good price for studio close to the center.

Steering wheel can be moved to left in most of cases. Here they write that it costs from 2000 to 7000pln depending on car:

Learn what would be the price for your model and do it after coming here. (when it has economic sense).

You don't write anything about your qualifications so how can we suggest you anything. If you know other European language except of English, then you have chance to get a job in some outsourcing company. Perhaps they have jobs for native English speakers too. Knowledge of IT or Finance is usually appreciated there.

Language / Ukrainian language similar to Polish? [236]

I've noticed those ukrainians living near the polish border speak a more polish-influenced dialect than those living in Kyiv, for example.

Maybe because what they speak in Kiev is Russian.

Study / Which language to learn in my university course? Polish Or German? [35]

If you come at least for 1 year to Poland, then you have real chance to learn the language if you try hard. On the other hand you have no chance to learn German in 1 year in Poland, because you won't be surrounded with this language and few hours per week in school is nothing. German has simpler grammar to learn especially declension. In Europe German has more use, when it comes for job prospects or number of speakers. Out of Europe I think that they're both not important :)

Free or discounted Polish courses should offer your university. But it's very hard to learn 2 languages at once. It's suggested to intensively learn 1 language and switch to 2nd after reaching at least B1 level of the 1st one.

Life / Polish Movies and News with subtitles to learn Polish language [24]

Wiadomości has subtitles, though not online. Below is information of other national tv programs which have subtitles
tvp.pl/dostepnosc/napisy-dla-nieslyszacych

In the past you could turn on subtitles with use of Teletext, perhaps now there is easier option with DVB-T. It's explained here: tvp.pl/dostepnosc

Here are tvp movies online with subtitles: tvp.pl/dostepnosc/filmy-z-napisami-w-serwisie-tvppl

Life / Is it possible to purchase a mobile broadband USB with no data limits in Poland? [18]

I think that it's HSPA+

HSPA+, or Evolved High-Speed Packet Access, is a technical standard for wireless, broadband telecommunication. HSPA+ enhances the widely used WCDMA (UMTS) based 3G networks with higher speeds for the end user that are comparable to the newer LTE networks. HSPA+ was first defined in the technical standard 3GPP release 7 and expanded further in later releases. ... can provide theoretical peak data rates up to 168 Mbit/s in the downlink and 22 Mbit/s in the uplink,

/wiki/HSPA%2B

HSPA " offers speeds of 14.4 Mbit/s down and 5.76 MBit/s up.", so no contrary - it's better type of 3G

Polonia / Any Poles who have lived and worked in Germany recently? [18]

By the way, I am a guy.

Sorry, I will know now :)

Does the German government yet require foreign employees and/or students within the Federal Republic to pass a "language exam"

No they don't. How would that comply with freedom of movement in the EU?

News / MA in Poland without much studiyng? [3]

it will encourage this people to learn something more about their profession, so it's a good think. But it should be written on diploma that it's not the same licencjat or magisterium, as normally made. I am quite sure it won't be. Maybe then employers will be asking for marks transcript to see how many years someone has studied.

Work / Moving to Lodz - will my 2500 PLN salary be enough? [52]

online you can rent something through:

9flats.com
airbnb.com

or Polish:

lokalo.pl

When you search there for flat/room to rent for whole month, then prices are cheaper.
When you come to Lodz you can rent personally with gumtree.pl/fp-domy-i-mieszkania-do-wynajecia/lodzkie/c9008l3200004

Generally the most jobs in IT are in Warszawa, Kraków, Wrocław, Poznań, Gdańsk, £ódź perhaps in this order. If you say that you know polish then apply your knowledge to google search for the job. IT jobs are offered online.

Polonia / Any Poles who have lived and worked in Germany recently? [18]

Its a shame that we are forced to such lengths in the pursuit of money to live.

I don't think that she's moving because of money. From my knowledge Australia is doing great right now, and she will not be offered in Germany better salary because Australian salaries are higher than German and in Germany it's very useful to know their language.

As for tips. I live in Munich and from personal experience and what I've heard/ read in the richest German cities.
it's quite normal that it's harder to find apartment than job. (provided that you don't want to pay 50% higher rent than average - no exaggeration here).

Because your interest are finances then your possibilities are restricted to international companies which use English at work only. I know people working in finances without perfect German knowledge, but it's not an average, so If you don't want do land in some ****** job, then maybe rethink if Germany is good place to work. Or maybe don't imply that you must find a job there and treat your job hunting time there as vacation, from which you can always come back.

Other tips:
- In Germany xing.de is more popular than linkedin.com - have accounts in both.
- Berlin is NOT the richest city and it's NOT the easiest place to find a job
- of course it has sense to learn the language, but for employer average knowledge will equal no knowledge of German.
- you write that "I do not have any formal qualifications." so try gathering some papers which could prove your experience

good luck

Work / Moving to Lodz - will my 2500 PLN salary be enough? [52]

Wish you well. keep us updated :) £ódź can scare you. It's very neglected place. It has beautiful architecture in the center, but over 50% of building cry for renovation. Similar with roads. And it's full of commiblocks anywhere out of center. The most famous saying about £ódź is from Polish comedy: "£ódź kurwa"

youtube.com/watch?v=IJ2kvZpJ_BU
and it describes the character of the city very well.

Check this article to get to know £ódź a little bit:

Real Estate / Cost of room in Warsaw? Where to look for accomodation? [31]

Those prices seem more expensive than reality. Are they the price for certain neighbourhoods or types of flat?

they're average from dom.gratka.pl. So perhaps many cheaper offers were out of this webiste, but rather on gumtree and in newspapers.

Real Estate / Cost of room in Warsaw? Where to look for accomodation? [31]

Renting cost in Warsaw:
35–50 m2: – 2196 zł
50–75 m2: - 2676 zł
more than 75 m2 - 4919 zł.

Foreigners have to pay usually premium. When you share flat then you divide price between number of people.

I don't know how much are bills.
