USA, Canada / Sending money to Poland from the USA? [48]

Its much cheaper to do it from the US then Poland.

When I was sending money back to the US it would have been about double to do a bank to bank wire because both the sending and receiving bank charge.

USA, Canada / My wife wants to return to Poland...but I want to stay in the US [155]

I would make the best decision for yourself and your family. I followed my gf to Poland and I never regretted it at all. Money is not the end all be all in life. I would rather be poor and happy then rich and suffering.

Food / Polish Beer Recipes [39]

There are a few brewing books that have Polish beer in them. Look on amazon.com.

Language / Pronunciation of "lepiej" [13]

It depends on if they are regular or irregular.

Swan has a new book out that tells a lot about it.

Food / Burgers, why not in Poland? [54]

I could never find good groud beef in Poland.

Ground pork, yes.

Ground beef and pork, yes.

None of the markets had it where I was.

Most of the natives thought beef was unsafe.

Food / Why carp for Polish Christmas? [157]

We don't have farm raised carp in the US like it is in Europe. Thats why Its much better to eat over there. I tried it and did not like it. It wasn't bad but it wasn't that good, at least to my taste.

Carp was imported into the US back in the 1800's as a game fish.

Work / Teaching English/CELTA at the IH, Krakow [13]

I went to IH Wroclaw. I found it to be worth every penny. I don't feel I would have been able to teach without it.

I found the staff in IH Wroclaw to be very organized and had a great time table.

However, I did find them a bit patronizing. I did find them extremely fair.

Love / My recent experience with a Polish girl. [231]

Women are women no matter where they are from.

There are many fish in the sea. Throw that one back and start fishing again.

Man Logic does not equal woman logic.

Work / Moving to Poland from the USA. Question concerning CELTA certificate.I need help [32]

I took my Celta in Wrocław. Actually, its the least expensive place to take it. I learned a lot.

ih.com.pl/en/wroclaw/about_the_school,282.html

However, I am not sure you can take it this year anymore, usually the last class of the year is in September.

Do not work with out a work permit.

Language / Pimsleur v Rosetta stone [27]

It depends on how you best learn. What works best for one will not work as well for someone else.

I liked the byki the best for me.

Pimsler worked well also.

Food / PIZZA & KETCHUP served only in Poland? [159]

There is a big difference between Ketchup and Pizza Sauce.

Good pizza sauce is a lot more spicy and usually has a different texture. When I was in Poland I saw regular ketchup and pizza ketchup. I noticed that the pizza ketchup was spicier.

I know someone that puts peanut butter on the crust. (American)

Work / I'm interested in teaching in Poland and I need some help. [33]

Tell that to Lowfunk99, the poster from this very site who has just been deported: he didn't have a work permit, thought that he didn't need one, unfortunately his school is not Min Ed approved, now he's not here any more.

I knew I needed a work permit. My school kept telling me I didn't one.

It might take longer but do it the right way.

I wouldn't have taught with out taking CELTA. I feel it was well worth every penny. Most of the schools on tefl.com (or on student research forums like essayforum.com) ask for CELTA or equivalent. Learning how to lesson plan, the different parts of a lesson and the actual teaching practice were invaluable.
