Language / How to remember Polish words? [23]

I wasn't expecting her to give us a link to a film, I thought that the horses in the background were going to do something and that she wanted to watch. Marta Żmuda Trzebiatowska chce zobaczyć wszystko.

I was a little disappointed that did didn't happen because it would have been funny.

In the feature film, did they end up together in the end? I watched the film but I don't know :-)

Language / Give me some reasons to learn Polish [126]

Cześć! Hi!Polish is one of the difficult language on this planet.

Cześć Paulina, nie zgadzam się...... I don't agree :-)

I have seen Polish written incorrectly by Polish people, I could be wrong.......this is what was written....... dla starej płyty......... should it be dla starych płyt? I am only a beginner.

Many times I have read comments under you tube videos or articles where people complained about the quality of Polish being spoken or written, either the person commenting or the poster of the article or video are wrong.

Should Polish people who haven't mastered Polish quit speaking it and learn Spanish instead?! :-)

A skąd pochodzą babci?! :-)

Language / Goral Words/Goralskie Slowa [5]

nestea
Proszę bardzo

If you search google for góralski słownik I am sure that you will find more.

By the way what does this mean? I couldn't find it using google.

Ty szatnuakrusakracholski

Should it be in the vocative? (maybe it is in vocative, I haven't done this yet):

Vocative examples:
Ty łosiu
Ty brutalu
Ty kurduplu
Ty ślepaku

Language / Help with the Polish plurals and describing of objects? [22]

For example "There are five buildings"

I think that it is livemocha that you are using. It is good for practicing pronunciation but it doesn't teach you grammar. It is good for pronunciation because native speakers rate your pronunciation, usually I get done for not rolling my Rs, or not pronouncing the 2 kks in lekka etc. and many other things.

If you are a beginner and you are trying to write these sentances it is too difficult in my opinion.

I would reccomend that you buy Hurra Po Polsku 1, both the textbook and the exercise book and get a Polish teacher(there is a teacher book for the teacher) who teaches Polish to go through it with you.

Each one of these sentances contains several grammar problems which should be learnt first before writing these sentances.

You must learn about the cases below:
When you put a number before a noun there are 3 possible cases that you could use to decline this noun, nominative, accusative or genitive.

You must learn about making plurals of nouns: This isn't in Hurra Po Polsku 1, as far as I know it is in book 2.

I haven't done much with numbers but there are supposed to be approx 22 different ways of saying the number 2. I have been through Hurra Po Polsku 1, numbers are not covered in it as far as I can remember.

My opinion is that you should start with some more basic stuff and work up to the difficult stuff.

Powodzenia

Language / The Polish language - it's bloody hard! [210]

The only bone I have to pick with Polish people, is their apparent 'tunnel' hearing when it comes to Polish. If you don't pronounce the word absolutely perfectly (which is almost impossible for a native English speaker), then you're in for a frustrating time.

My own personal experience is that you will get more smiles if your pronunciation isn't perfect but you are trying.

I may have experienced this tunnel hearing but I was trying to buying bus tickets in a shop instead of the kiosk across the road which was a little bit hidden. She wasn't expecting me to ask for bus tickets, the accent and bad pronunciaton didn't help, there was also a queue behind me but anytime that I was in the right place asking for what people usually ask for I have no problem because they expect me to ask for something they are selling.

On a positve side I was trying to buy an apple from a small shop in the bus station in Zakopane and I made an absolute mess of asking for an apple. Jabłko isn't that easy to pronounce so I gave up and suggested zielony to her and she understood.

Nie ma :-)

Language / There are few Polish Homophones? [3]

I searched

A GRAMMAR OF
CONTEMPORARY POLISH

By Oscar E Swan

and I found no mention of homonyms or homophones. This is a grammar book though.

I found some stuff here though but it is in Polish.

Study / Polish language schools in Krakow [30]

Is Prolog a big school? Are there are lot of students attending at any one time? If you don't go with friends would it be a problem?

I was thinking of doing this course also but I worry about how much English will be spoken amongst the students and the teachers etc.

I was also on a course 4 years ago in Lublin so I can compare

Prolog or Lublin? Which is best?

Language / Ty ślepaku, what case is ślepak in and why? [15]

Despite its glorious beginning it is regarded as an insult today

Can kurduplu be used jokingly and then not be taken as an insult? Maybe that wouldn't be vocative if it was used this way?

Language / Ty ślepaku, what case is ślepak in and why? [15]

Definitely not "klępo!" because she might take offence.

pl.glosbe.com/pl/en/kl%C4%99pa

Thanks for that, unfortunately I have made many mistakes like this before! :-(................ I am very cautious about what I say now. You have to have a real grasp of a language to not make mistakes like this.

She has nice eyes alright :-) I'd say she can give a good head butt also!

kurdupel: I think this is like little one

kurdupel becomes kurduplu in vocative.

Katie Kleopatra i Tom Kurdupel GALERIA!

Language / Ty ślepaku, what case is ślepak in and why? [15]

Vocative, wołacz, the 7th case, often ignored. But why? :-)

Thanks Boletus, although usually I associate the vocative with calling someone to get their attention etc. and not to call them names. I haven't learnt about vocative yet, this is all that I know about it so my assumption is obviously wrong.
