History / Would you classify the Poland's Communist years as a "Soviet occupation" ? [221]

Poles oppressed Poles after 1956, not the Soviets.

Sure but it does not mean that there would have been no communism in Poland If not the Poles opressing Poles. Do you seriously believe that If one day let's say in 1965 all UB officers didn't show up at "work" and PZPR members did flush their party membership handbooks down the toilet then Poland would soon have had free elections, became member of NATO and so on ?

Also worth pointing out that the Soviets had little appetite for doing much in 1981.

So why are you defending matrial law so much ?

History / Would you classify the Poland's Communist years as a "Soviet occupation" ? [221]

People try and deny it nowadays, but there's absolutely no escaping the fact that Communism couldn't have survived for so long without the collaboration of a vast amount of Poles. I'm not passing judgement - but it couldn't have happened without them.

Total nonsense. If there hadn't been enough of such Poles, the Russians would have been sent to do the job, actually It was partly implemented in 1944-56. If anything else had failed, Poland would have been made one more Soviet republic.

News / Wisława Szymborska died. [30]

She wrote some wonderful poems which are very worth reading.

Also this one I heard: "Niech żyje nam towarzysz Stalin, co usta słodsze ma od malin".

Life / What is the school bus security standard in Poland? [18]

just some buses which for a small part of their working day are used for school purposes.

Some of them... others are school buses only...

I love the way that neither you nor Greg could be bothered to answer the original question and help out the OP, but as soon as you get a chance to try and put one over me, you both just can't post fast enough, kind of pathetic really.

1. I don't know details regarding security of school buses, so I can't answer OP's question.
2. I know that there definitely are school buses in Poland and you posted nonsense misleading to the OP, edit

Study / Shocking! Test standards in Polish schools. [165]

Want me to send you photocopies, boy?

Yes please, expat...

No smartass, I did it on Friday. Unlike you, I have a social life and I can't be bothered to post on PF every day. Man ... some people ... :S:S:S:S

These expats...

"The salary of people who are highly educated and are out of a job are being largely paid by the EU and not by <my company>". So there we have the problem, don't we? A company is trying to save a few bucks on salaries, they ask for a grant from the EU, they hire highly qualified people, who are -unfortunately- unsuitable to do the job.

Interesting... what kind of grant is that ?

Anyway, Poles are far from perfect in case of foreign languages but still there are far more people fluent in English than number of jobs where speaking English is really essencial... so, the problem is on your company... you expect people here to fix it ?

Study / Shocking! Test standards in Polish schools. [165]

Personal and career growth/and because is a good company. I would steel down in Wroclaw. Completed additional course, promote higher position.

Sorry but I don't buy it. What are the chances that a person write words such as leader, team or upgrade without mistakes but can't spell "family" correctly ? No one is saying here that Poles are excellent at foreign languages, no need to make up stuff to "prove" that it isn't so... Besides, when did you conduct that experiment ? On Sunday :)) ? You "expats" should improve your logical thinking skills before you criticize anyone...

Well...I think it is possible for a 13 year old to learn basic differential and integral calculus.

It is possible but doesn't make sense at all. 13 yo kids will have no clue how to use it anyway.

When I was 12, I learned limits and basic derivatives.

Fascinating.

Study / Shocking! Test standards in Polish schools. [165]

true, masters degrees are for sale in UK, more or less.
I read alot of UK masters dissertations and see nothing great in them at all.

It's quite common here too... That's why I'm not saying Polish mgr is always better than British MA (it depends on school/course) but to say opposite is laughable...

there is negative selection for the teaching positions - it's because teaching pays you so little in Poland

It's true in 90's Poland... Now you can more and more often hear about people desperately trying to get a job at school... partly because salaries have improved... partly because unemployment rate among graduates is so terribly high...

Study / Shocking! Test standards in Polish schools. [165]

Prove it? How can I prove something here when my better half comes home from this course, with a lot of materials and instructions how to mark something. You just have to take my word for it.

Hmm so you pretty much made up those 2 examples, right ?

I didn't say I did. I said I get applicants

What's so shocking then ? That there are people in Poland, who can't communicate in English ? Is that so feckin strange ? You expats are so weird, go to France, Italy, Spain or even Germany, you will find there many many millions of people who can't communicate in English.

And still Poles try to claim that their matura is the same level as the British A level and thus their magister is the same as a British MA....

LOL ! The same pathetic inferiority complex showing up again :)) You kunts have tonnes of clown degrees, mgr from let's say SGH is better than at least 99% of your MAs in business/economy, some mgr's are a joke and some MA's are a joke. Now Harry, tell us somethin about your "superior" british MA :)))) What was it in ? Social work :))) ???

Law / IT department (computer programming) - Opening up an Office/Business in Poland [53]

Anyone recommending Katowice for anything other than ritual suicide deserves scorn.

Nonsense.

Yeah yeah yeah. Says the person who claims Gdansk to be a "Great place for business".

It IS great place for business :)

Wrong. Like your historical knowledge, you seem to be lacking in knowledge about Poland

Says a Scotish English teacher, who's been living in Poland since 3 years and can't put together more than few words in Polish. Hilarious :))

Study / Shocking! Test standards in Polish schools. [165]

Now, according to OFFICIAL standards (and I kid you not), this student should get 9 points out of 10.

Foreign language teaching in Poland is far behind low and nordic countries, however they are leading in this area... In Poland it's pretty much on typical European level I think... and I doubt a kid would get 9/10 for that crap... please prove it... when I was at school the teaching was crap the way that it took many years to reach intermediate level, not that they were giving good marks for ****** texts...

No wonder I am getting applicants who don't speak any English at all.

You are recruting people ? Which sectors/positions ?

History / Why are Jews pestering Poland for "proper" WW2 monetary restitution/reparations? [750]

Poland hasn't GIVEN anyone ANYTHING. There have been Catholic Poles, and there have been Jewish Poles. There have surely even been Buddhist Poles living among you. This isn't a matter of one religions' largess

You've got no clue what you are talking about. Poles are Western Slavic people, who created country called Poland +10 centuries ago. Jews are Semitic people, who started moving into Poland in large numbers in late Middle Ages. And yes, not so long ago classification (also legal) of people by their religion was a norm in Europe.

How does Jedwabne look this time of year?

Really fine I heard.

USA, Canada / Can you BE Polish without SPEAKING Polish in the US? [256]

If you know someone BORN in Poland as were you, whose last name is e.g. Stankowski etc.. not unconditinionally Goldberg, Cohen etc,,, and speaks Polish as a native, behaves in a 'typically' culturally natural Polish way, would you think of that person as just another Pole, or is there always that sense that they're somehow "different"?

Then the person is Polish, vast majority of Poles will agree with that, so no need to search for sensation here... the thing is that majority of pre-WW2 Jews in Poland weren't like that, they definitely didn't behave like typical Poles... they were more like a parallel society, that's why majority of Poles didn't consider them to be Polish... I brought it up becase once I mention that pre-ww2 Jews in Poland generally weren't Polish, the whole crowd of westerners, expats and other freaks, scream it is "antisemitic" to say so and now one of these guys claim that Kashubs aren't Polish... so a group of people, which are ethnically pretty much the same as standard Poles, are native to the land, pretty much all are fluent in Polish and +95% of them declare themselves as Polish, are not really Polish but pre-WW2 Jews were, well a lack of... consistency I would say.

Kashubians aren't Polish, in case that escaped your attention too.

Yep, of course unlike the Jews living in Poland before WW2, they were Polish and If you don't agree, you are antisemitic, right ? :))

News / Don't let Poland become like my country, France. [630]

it was Europe, who once went around the globe looting other country off their riches and forcing other countries to become their colonies.

So what ? Few Europeans countries did that, besides it was long ago.

It was once again Europe who brought in immigrants in the 60s and 70s as workers and to develop itself. And now that she is developed and lost control over the immigrants, she is no longer able to control wants to move the blame to others.

It was a big mistake, so It's quite obvious that lesson should be lernt, isn't it ?

I will just summarize by saying that, what once Europe did to others, others are now doing it to Europe! Give it a though and fill in the dots yourself.

do you have any idea that, there are more than 3 million Poles who have immigrated out of Poland to work in other countries! Similarly, there are millions of other Europeans who work in other countries out of Europe.

So what ? What's kind of logic is that ? If a guy from India rapes some Polish woman, does it mean that I have a right to rape Indian one ? Besides, non-European immigration is being discussed here, not intra-European one.

That's one reason to actually go to Poznan - you're closer to Germany

It's a non issue in case of IT.

There's nothing in Bydgoszcz or Szczecin worth considering.

You simply have no clue. Several people have already told you so in this very thread, expect more.

The job is very demanding, it's web based programming (PHP/Python/MongoDB/nodejs/JS/HTML).

The very demanding part is... ?

Real Estate / Foreign investor, properties in Poland, walk away from mortgages? [209]

Americans are used to solving the issues that are connected with mortgages that are "under the water".

And that's one of the main reasons why all this mess around the world has stared... Debt doesn't disappear then... Others have to pay it back... If not through government's bail outs then through general higher cost of debt.
