News / Did George Soros want to destroy Poland with his economic shock therapy? [87]

Remind me how many of the 9/11 terrorists came from the same country as Soros, or the same faith as Soros.

None of them. It's clear who the real threat is, and that is dodgy Middle Eastern regimes. Soros is the enemy of those states, hence why they willingly peddle such propaganda.

USA, Canada / NEW route Newark - Rzeszow by Poland's LOT [41]

Are LOT still using the ATR flying cattle trucks on that route?

They're using a complete mix - Dash-8's, the E-175 and even the E-195 on one rotation. The ATR's have thankfully been binned.

Speaking of which, I really can't stand the inefficiency of LOT on domestic flights. I flew several times to Warsaw recently, and every single time, LOT took an absolute age in Okęcie to actually board the planes. In comparison, Nordica in Tallinn (although operated by LOT!) managed to complete bordering of a CRJ-900 in 10 minutes.

USA, Canada / NEW route Newark - Rzeszow by Poland's LOT [41]

It's even more bizarre that LOT should want to start increasing long-haul flights from the provinces

It makes absolutely no financial sense to do so. They're never going to fill the Dreamliner with enough people, and no-one is going to risk taking one flight a week to Rzeszów when they can simply fly to Warsaw and connect on a short hop to Rzeszów on a domestic LOT flight. The catchment area for flights from Rzeszów is tiny, especially as anyone flying from Lviv will prefer to connect through Kyiv or Warsaw rather than bothering with the mess that is the Polish border.

This is purely about politics, and using LOT to appeal to the inbreds in that part of Poland who will think that it's an achievement to use taxpayer's money to subsidise loss-making flights.

A flight from New York to Wrocław would make much more sense, but that wouldn't make sense politically.

I know you don't speak Polish, but the blog is about flying from Rzeszów, not about Chicago.

Do try harder in future, American.

News / EU confirms it will take action against Poland over court reforms [554]

Look at how businesses fled Catalonia after the UDI, and you can see just how important access to the EU is.

Polish courts have commies in them - that's reason enough to purge them.

Good good. That means you also supporting purging commies from public life, right?

News / EU confirms it will take action against Poland over court reforms [554]

I'm sorry - 98% of Hungarians voted AGAINST the migrant quotas (source: BBC)

Just to point out: the referendum actually failed. The referendum required a quorum of 50%, therefore only a minority of Hungarians voted against them.

also morawiecki was picked so he can talk some sense into the eu

What makes you think that a minor politician with no support base in his own party is going to influence the EU?

Morawiecki is a political lightweight, and unlikely to do anything except give powerpoint-assisted interviews.

News / Poland's Party of Law and Justice (PiS) reconstruction [38]

The whole thing is odd, to be honest. The only logical situation I can think of is that Szydło is being primed to have a shot at Warsaw, while Morawiecki is to lure centrist voters by putting a lid on the blatant corruption and stupidity while getting the economy going even more.

But this could so easily backfire. Morawiecki strikes me as completely untrustworthy in politics, just like his father.

News / Poland's Party of Law and Justice (PiS) reconstruction [38]

As for Szydlo's dismissal, I think that JK is more probable than MM.

Yes, likewise. I cannot imagine Morawiecki wanting anything to do with some of the clowns in the Council of Ministers.

I don't think it's cool to get rid of her,

I think there may be some logic to it. She knows how to run a campaign, and as it stands, PiS have zero chance of winning in Warsaw. So, it does make sense for her to stand down and focus on winning in Warsaw - if PO and Nowoczesna tear each other apart there, then she might just be able to sneak a victory. Szydło is an excellent campaign manager as you said, and it's hard to imagine anyone else from PiS having a chance there.

Of course, the flip side is that if she does do that, there's a huge chance that the opposition parties will all stand aside in favour of a common candidate against her.

Travel / My Experience in Poland (compared to Germany) [100]

but part of the point is that these were practices that would not be found/allowed in Poland.

There was one thing that I'm familiar with - Poles in 2004 would place adverts in newspapers/etc, offering some seemingly easy work - all you had to do was get to Victoria Coach Station in London, sometimes even with the bus ticket provided. The gangs would then take the victims to work in factories and farms, while keeping most of their wages. "Accommodation" would be provided along with food, but it would be very substandard stuff - they were simply taking advantage of people being ignorant as to the real situation there, especially as the victims were often naive people from small towns and villages.

He's saying that Poles (and Russians) bribe employers in the United States to ensure they are not made redundant when times are tough. Wonder how that works :)

Actually, that was a common practice in some countries, and it's quite possible that Polish companies in the US did the same thing. For instance, during the Bosnian War, state-owned companies were often dormant - and what happened was that savvy people paid off the management during the war to make sure that they had a job once it finished.

I woudn't be surprised if kickbacks were expected in the chaotic early 1990's in Russia as well, though as far as I know, it wasn't a common practice in Poland. Bribing someone to *get* a job was widespread though, and until the introduction of the standardised Matura, bribery to get into university courses was routine.

These days? I wouldn't give a bribe, nor would I expect anyone to ask for one. The anti-corruption authorities are everywhere.

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

.deal with it.

I don't see why non-Europeans should be allowed to spread propaganda and lies about Europe. Their aim is remarkably easy to figure out - to destroy European unity, something all Europeans should be on their guard against.

Completely agree with you and I'm baffled why some people just don't get this.

No wonder the UK voted for Brexit when the Brits themselves are so horribly clueless about the workings of the European Union.

By the way, all EU members gave "common consent" to the current way of working in the EU. They had to, as it was part of the Treaty of Lisbon, which Poland ratified without fuss.

What town in Russia?

Try en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuva en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mordovia is also worth trying - both of these places voted overwhelmingly for United Russia, which should give you what you want.

Certainly it does not.

I've been trying to think of such a place in Poland, and I can't think of anywhere. Even the worst places I've been to didn't vote for right wing parties massively.

Travel / My Experience in Poland (compared to Germany) [100]

As for moving to Poland to live in an ultra-right society it doesn't make much sense.

It makes zero sense. I suggest Russia would be a far better place for him.

I would be happy if an anti-immigrant but otherwise normal party would rule in Germany

Would you? An anti-immigrant party is almost certainly going to find ways to cause trouble for the Polish community there as an easy target. Is that what you want?

He claims to be an American who is fluent in German, and he dreams of moving to an ultra right wing location in Poland

He might well be American, because that's very American logic. He won't stop to think that there's a high chance that his kids will be hurt by others in an "ultra right wing location", not that such a thing exists in Poland.

None of this sentence makes even remotely sense or is based on anything in reality.

What Bieganski, as a Canadian fails to understand is that the EU is shaped by the members. The majority of members are actually centre-right, which is why the EU has so much emphasis on trade.

I suggest he leaves discussion about the European Union to Europeans.

Work / Diary of a Teacher in Poland [181]

Indeed. They are well qualified, and their qualifications are standardised to European norms.

Yes, the only issue right now is that teachers can enter the profession after a BA/BSc, but the government (correctly, in my opinion) intends to make an MA/MSc the minimum entry requirement.

How anyone can insult hard working, decent Polish teachers is beyond me.

Work / Diary of a Teacher in Poland [181]

Do a PhD you won't regret it especially if you want to teach at the college level

That's what is tempting me, teaching in primary schools is a young person's game, and a PhD would open up doors to a university job.

Perhaps, this is why the real qualified teachers are working in the UK instead of slaving for low Polish wages.

It's a shame that you think that Polish teachers aren't "real qualified".

News / Brutal rape by Polish man on homeless woman in Rome [50]

Surely it would be the Italian government, since the crime happened in Italy?

Well, the last attack caused many PiS supporters to demand that the criminals get extradited to Poland to face justice and the death penalthy, so the same should happen here.

Do we actually know the alleged attacker is Polish.

Yep, the Polish media confirmed it.

News / Brutal rape by Polish man on homeless woman in Rome [50]

Another day, another story of Polish brutality towards foreigners.

natemat.pl/218105,bestialski-atak-we-wloszech-mlody-polak-jest-podejrzany-o-brutalny-gwalt-na-57-letniej-bezdomnej

He grabbed my hair, beat me and raped me. At one point I managed to escape, but he caught up with me, tied my hands and continued to rape me, says a 57-year-old woman.

What kind of animal inflicts this sort of violence on a defenceless homeless woman?

The perpetrator of a brutal sexual assault in a park in the center of Rome is a Polish male aged 20-25.

An absolute disgrace. One wonders when the Polish Government will call for the extradition of this criminal to face justice in Poland for his crimes, and one can only await the comments from members of the government that this Pole should be executed for the crime.

Clearly the pattern of murder and violence by Poles in the EU means that Europe is at threat.

Work / Diary of a Teacher in Poland [181]

Ah, just to talk about qualifications:

I have an MA in English, a post-diploma in pedagogy, I'm an "appointed teacher" and I've got a huge collection of other certifications and qualifications on top. Polish teachers are ridiculously well qualified, so I'm forever obtaining new certifications in a wide range of things. A PhD is also tempting, as I won't be eligible for promotion to diploma teacher level for a while yet.

Study / Recrutation at Warsaw or Wroclaw University closed? [18]

What can be done at this moment ?

Part time or full time? Full time will be impossible - the deadline in public universities is because candidates are ranked in order, and you need to meet the deadline in order to be part of the ranking. What you can do is go full time in a private university for the 1st year, then transfer into a public university in the 2nd year.

Part time will be easy, just go to the Dean responsible for part time studies in the faculty and he/she will be able to arrange it for you. You'll probably have to apply to the rector, but they will guide you.

Work / Diary of a Teacher in Poland [181]

So, another day, and a frustrating one to say the least.

I got to work early as always, only to be greeted by one of the secretaries with a smile on her face. One teacher had organised a school trip, and the other teacher that was supposed to on the trip had dropped out at the very last minute because her kid was sick. Of course, they'd decided to send me on the trip instead - and the trip was the definition of dull. Not only did I have to quickly prepare information about what material to cover for the substitute teachers that would replace me, but I also had to tolerate one of the worst and most mind-numbing trips ever.

I'd write more, but it was a monumental waste of time, and even worse, the class going on the trip wasn't a class of mine.

Why did they pick me? Well, I have all the qualifications needed to organise trips and a lot of experience with running trips successfully, so I was apparently "the obvious choice". What a complete waste of a day.

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

That's the whole problem with fascism. If the previous gov agreed to re-open Auschwitz, according to this "logic" we should go on with it.

There's a difference between looking after some refugees and re-opening death camps.

People responsible for the "migrant crisis" should be put against the wall, screw them and their "agreements".

Russia's right there.

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

Can you or Jon tell me what are the "rules" concerning member states having to accept migrants ?

So, the European Commission proposed that migrants should be distributed throughout the EU to take the pressure off Greece and Italy. The member states agreed to this, which made it legally binding. Once an agreement is made, it can't be reversed - otherwise every member state would reverse their position on something as soon as it didn't suit them.

Nothing more complicated than that. Poland agreed to something, and is now legally bound to it.

Virtually the same as Lebanon but the point stands. One problem was that Germany forbade translators from conveying this type of of information so they couldn't say "He says he's from Syria but his accent is Iraqi" .

Yes, it's really odd that Germany did that sort of thing. Austria was interrogating them on the border to establish their origin, including the use of Syrian translators to make sure that they really were from Syria and not from somewhere else.

As long as. Aslo not allowing for family reunification

Yes, absolutely. From what I can see, family reunification should only be permitted if the entire family agrees that they will return as soon as the conflict ends, and it certainly shouldn't be allowed unless it's a single family member reuniting with the rest of the family - for instance, the father being allowed to come to be with his wife and kids. Certainly any bollocks involving a single 19 year old then bringing the entire family over - hell no.

For me, there's no reason not to offer genuine assistance to those in need, but that help should be proportional. If a family comes here and they integrate well into society and prove that they can be an asset to the country, then of course they should be able to stay - but that should be decided against a set of strict, but fair criteria.

Poland cannot endanger security of it citizens just to uphold some agreement.

Polish citizens are at much more danger from drunken Polish drivers, as witnessed by the amount of deaths every year on the roads as a result of drink driving.

Also because no one can 100% distinguish between a Syrian refugee, an illegal economic migrant and a Muslim extremist - we can flash this agreement down the toiled.

Why? It's easy enough - don't take men aged between 14-30, or even easier, just take women and children. Syrians are easy to pick out as they speak quite a distinctive variety of Arabic, and of course other migrants shouldn't be accepted.

Mind you, imagine if the UK had also said that it was impossible to distinguish in 1945 between "Polish refugees, illegal migrants and Communist extremists" and refused to give refuge to Poles? What then?

The last point - those people don't want to come to Poland. They want Germany as Merkel invited them, so they should keep them .

So do the common sense thing: put them in housing near the Polish border and give them a map and free train tickets to any station in Poland. Voila. The EU is handing out 10,000 Euro for each migrant, so spend a couple of thousand on that and pocket the rest. Job done, after all, it's not Poland's job to prevent anyone from leaving.
