News / Giant Jesus Rising in Świebodzin ( Tallest in world ) [323]

because apparently if you want to build a statue, you also want to slash people's faces with razors and burn them in barns.

What the **** is wrong with this statement? Am I the only one who thinks this is mad?

Because sadly - the people in Poland who fund such things tend to be the same ones who will give up money to Radio Maryja and suchlike.

But you are comparing that to a supposed act of burning people in a barn, of murder.

So will put the same question to you as I did Arien, do you complain about golden Bhuddas in Thailand, which is a much poorer country.

Can you accept that that is what many Thai people want and it is a cultural need?

And the same ones

Prove it. Prove that the people who want to build a Jesus have anything to do with the atrocities you are claiming.

Trying to deny Jedwabne now, are we?

Prove that the people who want to build a Jesus have anything to do with the atrocities you are claiming.

Youz are a bit mad for going on this rant.

So all Catholics are Jew murders, sorry not all, just those who want to build a Statue of Jesus with their own money.
Youz are off your rockers.

Fits, doesn't it?

How? Or I will think you are also a savage madman.

A crown of thorns, yes...but a golden crown? Hardly strikes me as something that Jesus would have wanted.

It is a symbol, you don't have to be so literal...

Maybe Buddha wouldn't like thousands of golden statues of him either but who cares? It is just decoration and highlights it.

The same people canvassing for this idiocy would have been the same having put fire to the barn in Jedwabne.

Explain to me how the two are linked or I will think you are a savage madman.

No, but I'm going to go to bed now and watch it, cheers :D

warszawski put me on to it, it is genius :)

Maybe a big, fat Buddha in Kraków or something.

So why aren't you complaining about the Buddhas in Thailand?

No, because Mary would be owner of the same Casino. (Come up with something clever?)

Nope, gambling is not allowed like it is in Las Vegas in many places.
Don't you think it's wrong for them to "push" their gambling ways onto the none gamblers of LAS VEGAS???

I mean, atleast *I* am tolerant enough to allow them their statues and their churches, even though they're nothing more than a shrinking minority here.

Tolerant? I can't agree, you are sitting in Holland telling us how a huge statue of Jesus in a predominantly catholic country is oppressive to other faiths but say nothing about the huge buddhas in the far-east.

It's funny how you can't read.

Surely you can't read?, I never said you said ''people should tear it down'', I asked a question.
If you are going to accuse me of poor reading comprehension, least you could do is understand what I actually wrote.

I'm merely opposed to the idea of a Jesus being the only socially accepted religious symbol in a country, and that's all.

So you are equally torn up over Buddhas in Thailand?

dfgds

Thailand of course being much poorer than Poland.

What do you want to hear from me Sean? Yay? Praise the lord?

You know I am an atheist.
i just believe in freedom of expression and as far as I know there have been no complaints about the Jesus by locals, in fact because it is their money, I assume they want it.

If people in the place were protesting against it or if it were tax payer's money, I would feel differently about it but for me, it is an investment and an expression of a free Poland (not the church hating commie one), people need to feel that and if they want to build a feckin huge Jesus, then good for them!

You can't tell me they don't expect 1000's of pilgrims?

Life / What is Poland B as opposed to Poland A and the otherway-round. [45]

So even if there is a special program for poorer regions it cann't of course make a private bussiness to invest more there.

it has no infrastructure yet, when it does it will be much more attractive, as the wages are lower.
I am thinking of doing something over there myself, as I see potential.

The E.U. are pumping 65 billion Euro into Poland between now and 2013, much of this goes to infrastructure.

And Augustow looks like Carrick-on-Shannon, really beautiful.

One thing of interest to some foreigners on here might be, I have noticed that Polish people do not look down at the so called Poland B, it is not a class thing or anything.

People love it as much as any other part of Poland, there's just no work and the problems that come with that.

I still want to know what idiot gave planning permission for this in the first place. Or was it the age-old problem that because it's the Church, you can't say no?

Which idiot gave permission for the sistine chapel, the Sphinx, Mecca, the whaling wall is a death trap, the Aztec pyramids etc...?

it's about not allowing others putting their symbols up.

Such as?

People who feel the same about it.

So what do you feel about it?

They allow *other* Casinos to compete, right? (And that's why you're missing my point!) So basically, you should vieuw this statue as the Casino in Las Vegas, which doesn't allow other Casinos to exist.

I am sure they would be happy to put Mary beside her son ;p
If you we are going to compare like with like.

There's no problem with the statue itself, but maybe you should see what happens when someone raises money and wants to erects a statue of gay people, or maybe some kind of Jewish or pagan symbol. That's the problem.

Not in a gay, Jewish or Pagan nation.

Why aren't you complaining about this or the Sphinx surely they should tear them down?

most Christians today wouldn't be able to reconcile their image with the reality of the person, nor would they like him much.

First time I saw a black Jesus was in Lithuania, not to mention the black Madonna ;)

I myself honestly don't believe Jesus has ever existed

That really has no bearing on the issue as you are just combating one belief with another.

Have you ever taken a good look at the Celtic cross for example? It existed *long* before Christianity, and it doesn't symbolize what most Christians think it symbolizes.

That is not in fact true.
The Celtic cross did not exist in Ireland before Christianity.
The Cross came directly from Christianity and the circle came from the pre-existing symbol used in the indigenous religion.
So to make the transition easier from Pagan to Christianity, the Christians adapted some of the existing beliefs with their own new Catholic ones.

If you keep this in mind, then how can I hate someone I don't believe existed?

Still a belief, I don't believe in the coca-cola version of Santa but I sure as hell do not go round telling people they shouldn't put them up every Christmas.

Now, I've given some of you guys a hypothetical scenario about the possibility of a statue which symbolizes someone else's religion.

But you know that is fine, in a country where the overwhelming population are that religion.

which is exactly why they shouldn't expect me to cheer their symbols.

Nobody expects anything from you, why would they? This has nothing to do with you or me.
This causes you absolutely no distress, doesn't even come in to your world except for this thread on this forum. I think you are just complaining because that's what you do when it comes to religious issues ;p

So that's why I feel it's just another sign of trying to dominate someone else and forcing your vieuws on someone else.

Who? certainly not you.

I keep thinking of Las Vegas, why don't you complain how they are forcing thier gambling on other people?

Of course, Poland is Poland, and if people in Poland think this is the way to go then this is the way to go for them. I'm just merely giving *my* opinion about it on the internet, and the last time I've checked we still had freedom of speech.

What about freedom of expression?
The people of this town have raised the money themselves to build what they want, where is the problem????
*I still think they should build a huge robotic Jesus*

Life / What is Poland B as opposed to Poland A and the otherway-round. [45]

What in God's own name is Poland-A , if such a thing exist what is Poland-B ?

Poland B is the bit of Poland that was neglected by the Ruskies during the

dsafsfc

It is supposedly poorer than the rest of the country, the wages are lower and the infrastructure is very bad (for now)
See map here upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c4/NowaMapaAutostradyStan.svg

The dotted grey lines are just in planning, the red are motorwaysunder construction.

I have driven through it many times, it has some very beautiful unspoiled areas, like Masuria and Augustow but also looks more run down and as I said the roads are very bad.

Poland B is allocated 30% more European funds than the rest of Poland to bring it up to the same level as the rest of the country.

What in God's own name is Poland-A

The German and Austrian part of Poland from the partition times.

Life / Any treatment centres for homos in Poland? [455]

I think that some people who post in this thread need to goto a treatment center;)

They'd be the homo sapiens then would they?

That is a slight twisting of our history

Sure it was only in 1954 that Bowman added "under God" to your Pledge of Allegiance.

UK, Ireland / Ive been in the UK for 6 days to relocate and im going back to Poland. [281]

I'm glad you're going back to your own country

His country, his own country is England.
It does have relevance to your comment.

I think that if you look for negative Polish views towards England, you will find most on these forums are not Polish and you will find many.

UK, Ireland / The more subtle differences: Ireland/Britain v Poland [310]

It's the remnant of communist pauper mentality, when everybody tried to nick something for himself from the 'nation-owned communal property'.

Ha!, thanks for the answer.

I find that there still is this mentality here when dealing with bureaucracy, the state or bureaucrat (with all the stamps) goes on the assumption that everyone's a criminal and it is your job to prove you are not.

:)) yeah, and sausage tastes of sausage :)

I know, but but but... cheese cake, tasting like cheese???
I think it is very funny too :)) I mean it's in the name after all :)

uber sexy pickles..

I have become addicted to gherkins (American Eng pickles, right?), I was wondering if there are any help groups for me?

Travel / Insights about winter in Poland. Polish winter during holidays as charming as spring? [21]

(a harsh one as well by the sounds of it)

They always say that ;) so far so good :)

Anyway I just wanted to find out if a Polish winter can be just as charming as a Polish spring?

Yes, especially if you ski or snowboard, it's the best fun you can have with your clothes on!

Also im terrified at the thought of being on Polish roads particularly during winter, for obvious reasons, are ppl more cautious then or is it same old dangerous Polish driving?

Be cautious, especially if you are not used to driving in the snow, go to an empty car park and practice.

Remember there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.

News / People says that EU bringing many nice things to Poland. Tell me about it [104]

Are you?
Since you do not have a fu**ink clue about Serbia, better stay out of that topic.

Just show me where I critisised Serbia?
BTW, neither the topic nor the forum are about Serbia.

I know the wrong things Serbs did during the war, but unfortunately my information are different, more objective, than yours.

A) you have yet to show any criticism of Serbia and B) show any of my information about Serbia being subjective.

You don't? You just nod your head? Wake up, man.

Where are you from? Not where do you live but where are you from?

News / People says that EU bringing many nice things to Poland. Tell me about it [104]

Since you and 99 % of your bunch here are constantly criticizing Serbia, it is for me not necessary to join. Since most of topics related to Serbia from your side other than the war and Serbian 'crimes' in the 90's is not coming up.

Please show me where I criticised Serbia? Crow maybe but not Serbia.
You don't know what you are talking about.

I'm trying to see the whole picture

That'd be your whole one-sided Serbian has done nothing wrong, I will criticise the E.U. and the U.S. but not my beloved Serbia, even though I say I am a "German" picture?

while i forgot to mention that you are the one who is crazy

Ah, okay, I thought it was you but now I see ;p

E.U. bad for Poland, Poland must be part of Slavic Union (again)... 4 children plenty of water...

News / People says that EU bringing many nice things to Poland. Tell me about it [104]

Like I said:

This is what this thread is about really, a crazy Serb that hates the E.U. and wants a "Slavic nation".

The EU executive is also mulling a specific study on water management in the post-2013 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), and plans to address water pricing in agriculture at a special conference in Poland in 2011.

They are having the conference in Poland not only about Poland.

EU does not suggests minimum four children per Polish family but EU suggests savings. In other words it means that EU wants Polish water

Making up stuff will never make it real Crow.

Isn't all of this off topic? People are going to read this thinking it's about Poland only to find out it isn't and well that might suck.
SeanBM

News / People says that EU bringing many nice things to Poland. Tell me about it [104]

Perhaps the title of the thread should be changed to "The E.U. is bad for Poland, a Slavic Union would be much better." (we wouldn't want their water, wellll unless we were thirsty).

Of course I criticize Serbia(politics, whatever) where it is necessary.

I still don't see any criticism of Serbia whatsoever from you, you are still criticising the E.U. and Germany in particular.
Perhaps you could point out a post of yours where you criticise Serbia?
