News / Pole-basher Gross up to old tricks [284]

What picture in question? Can you expand it bit more?

The whole book is based on one picture. Surely you know this?

No surprise from my side.

No surprise that Gazeta Wyborcza haters are anti-semites? No, no surprise from me either.

History / Lwów, Wilno ... kresy - Poland have lost enormoust part of our heritage... [389]

A WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN situation.

How long before ethnic strife started to tear the continent apart, though?

By the way - I'm not saying that Poland should have allied herself with Hitler's Germany, but we paid a VERY high price for opposing him and sometimes I wonder if that price was not too high.

It may have actually been a smart move - the problem would have been his territorial demands. But then again - with Poland free to take whatever she wanted in the East after a Russian defeat, along with staying well clear of Germany - it may just have worked. Hitler may also have preferred to have Poland carrying out the dirty work.

The question here would be - could Poland exist with expanded land to the east and the loss of quite a bit of the Western/South-Western territory?

News / Poland is important in the global economy crisis? [33]

If that was up to me I would send all of you foraigners in PL back to where you belong within 48 hours.

Easy to say that from abroad, isn't it? :)

I guess that means you're happy to economically cripple almost every bordertown as well? Places like Slubice are suffering enough - there's a huge scandal there over the loss of 70 jobs at the former Swiecko checkpoint, and yet you want to kill every single business that caters for foreigners?

Forget it.You are not getting anything back.

Haha. If only.

News / Pole-basher Gross up to old tricks [284]

I hope this a'sshole Jew doesn't live in Poland anymore.

Nice to see you talk about your fellow countrymen in that way.

For now I understand that in your opinion everyone who doesn't like Gazeta Wyborcza is anti-semite.

I know plenty of people who dislike Gazeta Wyborcza and yet like Jews - or mostly, have no opinion about them.

But funnily enough, all the haters are also anti-semites. Coincidence? I think not. It must drive them wild that a Jew wrote a book on the basis of something written in Gazeta Wyborcza :)

Has anyone read it yet?

But of course not.

Gross is not a historian, check what he graduated at?

Many prominent people graduated in different things to what they graduated in. It's only really Poland (and stuck-in-communist-people, at that) that thinks that you need a paper from a university in order to be something. Heck, many prominent Polish journalists on all sides graduated in something other than journalism!

He's a prejudiced Jew with an agenda and making money off his anti-polish bias.

Nah, he's a Pole who understands that to sell books, you need to create controversy. And what better than appealing to the holocaust industry AND the Polish victim complex? The fact that he's a Pole that's betraying his homeland winds up the other Poles who betrayed their homeland too - so it gets even better.

I notice that no-one has yet denied the authenticity of the picture in question.

Portrayals of Poland, which was the homelandland of the majority of world jewery before WW2, as an unsafe anti-semitic place

Let's be honest - with so many people blaming Jews for everything from 1919 onwards, even right through to the current day, it's hardly a safe place for them. Thankfully, most of it nowadays is just bedroom brownshirt action.

I think it's quite clear that anti-semtism and Gazeta Wyborcza hating are indeed one and the same.

USA, Canada / Getting a VISA to USA by a Polish person nowadays [339]

WHY.

Indeed, why should America? It's not like America owes Poland anything.

Poland jumped into bed with America without securing a good deal - their problem. America did a great deal, Poland not so.

I have been saying from the beginning that I blame polish government!

Indeed, successive governments from all sides of the political spectrum are to blame for the failure to join the VWP.

You are nothing with or without Europe you foking belgian pedophile. Now shut your filthy mouth punk.

Ah, aren't you a great advert for Poland?

Every EU project in PL is being financed with EU and Polish money.50/50.

Wrong. Usual split is around 2/3rds EU, 1/3rd PL. And let's not forget - it's a hell of a lot of infrastructure that's being built.

Of course, if you want, you can give all the money back. We don't mind, really.

News / Pole-basher Gross up to old tricks [284]

Although I have to admit that Gross sounds a bit "preachery" at times and wants to press his message home too much.

Of course - I suspect that it's just commercial concern that he does so. When you think about it - the more he pushes the "evil Poles dug up Treblinka" line, the more that he shocks Jews and Poles - both of whom will buy the book as a result. The fact that it's even being talked about says that he's done a good job.

Interestingly, it seems that the source for the Gazeta Wyborcza article was the director of Treblinka site today. Are you telling us Polonius, that the director is lying?

News / Poland is important in the global economy crisis? [33]

The country escaped the international recession because it is in a permanent recession.

And that's why you can't get a job, isn't it? Your knowledge of economics is rather...poor :)

are you suggesting he only writes about areas of history you want to hear about and avoid those you don't?

Of course.

I find it hilarious that the ones who are so strongly anti-Communist are the ones who promote Communist practices such as censorship of books.

Good on him though - he's managed to achieve mass appeal by not only appealing to the holocaust industry, but also the Polish do-no-wrong-complex. Quite clever, if you ask me - it's rare that history books enjoy such mass appeal.

News / Poland is important in the global economy crisis? [33]

Poland passed the Netherlands last year to become the sixth-biggest economy in the 27-nation European Union

So - it took 40 million Poles to overtake 16 million Dutchmen?

Or more accurately, one Dutchman is worth two point five Poles.

News / Polish Primate condemns EU's anti-Christianity [29]

Qualified officials are turned down because they are believing Catholics.

Sure, who wants to hire a 25 year old female practicing Catholic?

Common sense if nothing else - maternity leave costs business a hell of a lot of money.

News / Pole-basher Gross up to old tricks [284]

but Gross tendentiously zeroes in only on the real, exaggerated or imagined offences of Poles.

And? There's plenty of books out there that focus on how horrible the Nazis were, or how vicious the Soviets were. His choice is to focus on his own people.

I suppose what makes it much worse is that he's daring to go against the old maxim of "you do not criticise Poland under any circumstance".

On the other hand, he twists, bends and writhes to come up with excuses for why many Jews stabbed Poland, the country which had been their people's safe haven for centuries, in the back in 1939 by collaborating with the Soviet enemy.

Safe haven? I suspect Jews in Lwów in 1919 would have a thing or two to say about Poland being a safe haven for them. Let's not forget the rampant anti-semtism of the 20's and 30's.

Sorry, but perhaps this a story that should be told. Poland finds it hard enough to come to terms with her history, without endless censors demanding the right to censorship.

If it's not true - then write a book about it disproving it.

News / Pole-basher Gross up to old tricks [284]

The Golden Harvest tells about how Poles allegedly scavenged the site of the German Treblinka concentration camp in search of Jewish valuables.

And so what if they did?

I would be rather shocked if they didn't, actually. Given the circumstances of the time, and the utter desperation of people - what's so horrific, or shocking about them trying to find valuables at Treblinka?

At least those people were brave enough to do such a thing, instead of running away and betraying their country.

News / Y Shaped high speed rail line Poland [78]

The rebuilding of Lodz Fabryczna is about as idiotic and stupid as it gets. While the network is crumbling, the rebuilding of this station is a "pet project" - and haven't they learnt from Warszawa Centralna that underground stations universally don't work well in the long term?

Incidentally, it's doubtful that the line will be built until the money is found to extend the line to both Wroclaw and Poznan - neither city will accept being left out, yet there's really only enough money and demand to pay for the line to Poznan (due to the strategic value).

Polonia / MOVING MY STUFF TO MOSCOW and a Harley motorcycle ...any ideas? [58]

Mod...I was just warning Wildrover of the unreliability of delphiandomine. He has proven he cannot be trusted to live up to his word. Call it a "business review".

Thanks - you've just shown everyone why I shouldn't help you for free :)

Now, if you want to discuss maliciousness, shall I share your e-mail with everyone?

There is another way - through Latvia, directly to Russia. Belarussian customs is real nightmare, of course.

I never thought about that route, but I guess you'd probably lose just as much time going that way as you'd lose dealing with Belarusian customs?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Russia and Belarus now in some sort of Customs union? I seem to recall reading that there's no control between Belarus and Russia now.

BTW: WR, if you moving to permanent residence, maybe there is chances to import some used van or pickup without taxes and duties? At least there was such thing in the past. Dig into russian legislation a bit deeper - it may make whole process of moving litle bit more profitable, if you select make and model correctly (spacious enough to hold all your stuff and popular enough to sell it later here without problems). ;)

I looked into this a while ago, and I don't think it's possible. Things change all the time of course, but I'm sure that Russia has been controlling the sale of personally imported vehicles quite strongly. Or should I say - it's possible, but only with getting whacked with tax.

WR, could you rent a box truck and drive all of your stuff to Russia, including the bike, yourself? That's how I'd do it here but I have no idea about the particulars of doing so between countries over there.

Forget about renting - virtually no-one would let you take their van into Russia.

WR - from quickly asking a couple of people, it may be possible to get it all taken on a truck going to Moscow. My friend says that there are always trucks doing Warsaw/Berlin-Moscow trips - and that you should be able to get the goods there as a backload quite cheaply. Shall find out more tomorrow :)

History / BBC - Center for Military Studies - Gerald Kochan [28]

Why are Poles, living in Britain selling family history to a Yank and then complaining they never see the stuff again? Isnt that a bit of a no brainer?

That's what I'm wondering - surely it's pretty damn obvious that collectors, in general, will stash the stuff away rather than display it?

He won't bother replying...he is too busying arguing on the internet about **** that doesn't matter. He told me he would reply to a request for information "when he had time" then blew me off entirely. But he has all kinds of time to ***** about nonsense online. I would look elsewhere for advice.

WR's a great guy who came to a PF meeting in Poznan and was thoroughly entertaining - interesting stories, a sense of humour and a positive attitude. In other words, the kind of guy that I'd help for free in the blink of an eye.

On the other hand, why would I even want to encourage someone to move here that I don't like on a personal level? If you want advice, I can supply you with the names of some lawyers who will charge you for their advice.

But you wanted free immigration info? Theres no money in that.

Exactly. I've no issue with helping decent people, or even people that I might have had a good argument with in the past - but I've got no time for childish idiots.

WR - I'll ask around, I've got a couple of contacts here that might be able to help. Russia's a nightmare, not least because the goods have to be in transit through Belarus :( But I'll see if I know anyone!

History / Lwów, Wilno ... kresy - Poland have lost enormoust part of our heritage... [389]

Thats some sort of a joke right?

To anyone cultured who doesn't think POLSKA POLSKA NASZA POLSKA POLSKA constantly, they're about as well known as each other. Perhaps Shevchenko is better known than Franko, but certainly - Mickiewicz and Shevchenko are equals.

Then again, I don't suppose you've actually read anything by any of those authors.

No Sean, we both know you'd have to research them hard and long, the kind of famous postcards of national heritage that we're looking at here are people like Borgia, Galileo, Barbarossa, Kopernik, John Paul II, Napoleon, Daguerre etc.

Why are you naming a bunch of long-dead people?

Shevchenko and Ivan Franko are every bit as famous as Mickiewicz, for instance.

Anyway, perhaps a little look at history will show you how the Ukrainians were...em..'encouraged' not to develop through some rather interesting policies. The Poles certainly didn't allow Ukrainian universities!

About 50 bilj $. Something that Germany and Russia can pay for in my opinion.

Now you really are living in dreamland.

Germany gives enough to Poland. Oh, and what are you going to do with all the resentful Ukrainians who will resist being incorporated into Poland?

Atleast the people there will have it better then they would with Ukraine

I suspect most Ukrainians would rather be desperately poor than be part of Poland.

Yes.

Really? Any idea just how much property that involves? It would certainly bankrupt Poland in an instant.

Easy to say from an neutral angle you jerk! ;)

Poland can just about pay the bills at present and no more. The country isn't in crisis, but it's not far away from it - just how do you propose Poland paying for Western Ukraine?

Germany has struggled to bring East Germany up to West German standards - what hope does Poland have?

Dream on, sunshine.

Life / Poles lead Dutch in e-nonsense (social websites) [9]

What's your take on this? Is it (as they say in psychology) a compensatory reaction to conceal a deep-rooted inferiority complex or what?

Nice to see that you include yourself in this "e-nonsense".
