Life / Political correctness in Poland [210]

That is fascinating. If you didn`t tell us, I would think they dropped the term long ago.

Life / Political correctness in Poland [210]

The rules of political correctness can be so insonsistent in Poland. They stopped calling Roma people gypsies but look at this: Black radish called Murzynka - Black Female. (my fav veg to sow in the field).

Another example: Murzynek cake - Black Boy.

Are they controvercial today? The names of these articles are traditional Polish words for black people. Should they be changed? What to?

Study / Studies in Opole University; lack of money, cheap renting, any job available? [8]

I think you should show more initiative in order to compensate for low finances. :):) Why don`t you check at the source? I mean the sites of universities in Opole:

hello.uni.opole.pl/accommodation/
dwm.po.opole.pl/index.php/en/our-university/university-facilities/university-dorms
dwm.po.opole.pl/index.php/en/erasmus/incoming-students/accommodation

and there are many more sites, just google Opole university dormitory etc.

The cost of uni dorm is:

380 Monthly fee for accommodation in a triple room per person
390 Monthly fee for accomodation in a double per person

The cost of a bedsit is more or less the same, but mostly a bit higher, around 400-600 PLN.

USA, Canada / Polonia shows the way - 4/5 of PolAms for Duda - the new President of Poland [25]

if Polish US diaspora could guess how will Duda become German player

Even worse, he became Kaczyński`s faithful puppet. So don`t accuse him of anything bad because he doesn`t take any decisions on his own. E,g, when you want to deal with sb, do you go and talk to his or her dog or another pet? No. So, similarly, you should address Kaczyński directly, not Duda.

Life / Politics / lifestyle / culture on billboards in Poland - examples [28]

Let`s see how politics/ lifestyle or culture are reflected on billboards/hoardings in Poland. Not only during major elections or other important events but also throughout the whole year for minor reasons. Old and new examples are allowed.

Let`s start with political conflict. Below, an example of a negative campaign against a major party. Do such posters also appear in other countries?

PiS voter, aren`t you embarrassed? (because of voting for that party, of course).

Yes! Like a storm!
Silver Mountain village - there was indeed a silver mine nearby. And there are Prussian fortifications to visit, too.

Another pic from the place which nobody guessed

Language / What "YOU" is the correct one? Polish language question. [50]

then that person must either be drunk, crazy, or was merely trying to humor me!

Also , yanking your chain.

E.g. if a non-Pole asked you to tell him how to say goodbye to a hospitable Polish family e..g, I had a great time, you were such wonderful hosts, you could say: Pocałujta mnie w dupę. and teach him how to pronounce it.

Yes, Wambierzyce. Point! The name has always sounded amusing to me because it is close to Wampirzyce - Female Vampires.

Have you driven through this little town too?

Language / What "YOU" is the correct one? Polish language question. [50]

I wonder if enough native speakers of Polish have confirmed

When one person says you are drunk, you can laugh at it. When the second says so, think about it. When the third does so, you should go home and to bed right away. :):)

Language / What "YOU" is the correct one? Polish language question. [50]

Under NO circumstances will using Ty form be mistaken as a guy hitting on another guy

That`s true. It has nothing to do with being gay, only rude if it is spoken by a stranger to an adult man.

Life / WHY DO POLES USE ENGLISH WORDS IN CONVERSATION? [396]

Merged:

New anglicisms in modern Polish - examples

Today I noticed two examples of English words adopted into the Polish language in a polonised way (or not?).

A slogan on a street hoarding: Dobry dizajn... (Good design)

or
Interior Minister talking about one of Donald Tusk`s associates said: Tacy supporterzy pojawiają się ...... Such supporters have appeared.....

History / Is 5th partition of Poland possible? What kind? How? When? [73]

It is essentially split on patriots and globalists. This antagonism would rise eventually and it may trigger division of Poland on two states

In another thread you recently said that if Poles fail to recognize historical moment and stay within EU, Poland is lost. You added that a merciless assimilation onto some other nations will take place and then another partition of Poland.

Hmm, there are certain mysteries how it os going to happen. Assimilation can be successful but only after a lof of conditions are fulfilled. E..g, the common language. Which one do you think will become the lingua franca in Europe? French because of historical connotations? English because of its popularity? Or German because of Germany being the most important in the EU? How about Polish?

The only thing that comes to my mind right now is the mass purchase of Polish land by foreigners.

That was written in 2013. After 6 years, it is obvious that a mass purchase of land by foreigners didn`t take place.

Law / Required to travel to Poland within 4 months of my visa D? [5]

I can`t find any such requirements.
They state it clearly:
D-type Visa allows the holder to travel to Poland for a continuous or an aggregate (adding multiple entries together) stay on the territory of Poland for up to a year within the visa validity period.

vancouver.msz.gov.pl/en/consular_information/visas/national_d-type_visas/

They talk about 3 months but it refers to applications which should be submitted no more than three months before the start of the intended visit.

I see it is too difficult. See a more revealing photo of the statue, which decorates a fountain in one of the places I have mentioned here within last two weeks.

Sorry, it is not Pieskowa Skała, although it also boasts of a similar arcade courtyard.
