Love / Do Polish men like to sleep with other men? [79]

Hopefully Poland doesn't become "open minded" to the point that led to it being multi-cultural like it was in 1795, which then led to its destruction

No, what led to the destruction was the greed of the Polish nobility which sold Poland out to others, simply to stop the "peasants" from getting any sort of power. Conservative greed, if you will.

Travel / Polish trains often get frozen and are overcrowded? :-) [35]

Has anyone else noticed that the eating carriage tends to be filled with losers but the rest of the train seems to be ok? (on PKP trains)

I object, I use the restaurant carriage all the time! :(

(their interpretation of an "English" breakfast isn't bad)

Life / Who is poor in Poland? [720]

people may not care about saving a few grosze on a plastic bag, but I still don't see why stores have to be so desperate to charge for those.

It's actually better for the environment as it discourages people from taking more than they need.

the way that McDonald's restaurants were considered upscale when they first appeared in Poland

They were never considered upscale.

Life / Who is poor in Poland? [720]

What, because he ridicules the double standards of such people?

Or is it simply because you don't agree with him, so in tried and tested Polack manner, you want him to go away?

Life / Who is poor in Poland? [720]

Czech Republic has hardly any problematic areas, Poland has many of them. It's pretty much as If a country was made out of Wielkopolska, Małopolska and Warsaw city put inside of it. Economically It simply is better no matter how hard you try to spin it. Hungary also had been significally better until few fears ago, lefties screwed it up and now It's hardly better than Poland.

You really are living in dreamland if you think that the Czech Republic doesn't have problematic areas. Heck, look at Nachod - ruined factories, crap unrenovated housing, the whole town is an utter dive - it exists solely to sell cheap beer to Polish visitors. And that's not the only place - the Czech Republic has areas which essentially exists to provide cheap ****** to German visitors. I mean, the country is known for brothel tourism!

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

Of course, the fact that Russians are portrayed as alcoholics in the Western media, Germans portrayed as Hitler-lovers, Italians as being exceptionally lazy, French as being smelly onion eaters and so on means nothing to you, doesn't it?

Incidentally, there's plenty of stereotypes on Polish TV. No-one complains, because they've all got better things to do than obsess over the slightest insult to them. Heck, Britain is mocked soundly in the Polish media for having ugly women, terrible food, terrible weather and so on. We don't care in the slightest, and why should we?

I do find it amusing though, that most of these DEFEND NASZA POLSKA types can't actually speak Polish.

News / Gazeta Wyborcza of Poland losing readers [301]

the problem is- wyborcza and friends have control of most of the media, and it is they who are trying to stop You from reading or watching anything else, anyone who doesnt agree with them is antisemite, racist, backward...

Most of the media? Are you another person that needs reminded that the #2 daily newspaper is a PiS rag? Have you forgotten that Radio Maryja is still broadcasting their anti-government nonsense? Do you need reminded that Rydzyk's media empire is still going strong?

it is them who make "nagonke" on some people, destroying them.

Right, and the opposition media has never tried that? Do you need reminded that the opposition leader actually used the security services against the media?

I dont oppose wyborcza, but the power and influence they have, it is just not healthy

I suppose you're right - we should ban Radio Maryja for having too much power and influence over the mohairs, and perhaps ban Gazeta Polska for manipulating PiS voters into a state of hysteria.

Heck, let's just ban the mass media.

History / German Traitor And Polish Pig [96]

This is a Polish discussion forum and the sickening dehumanization of Poles that Germans perpetrated in WW2, as is evinced by the text of the sign Bronia was forced to wear, was not done by the Germans to the British.

No, just the systematic destruction of Dresden, as well as the kangaroo trials at Nuremburg. Nothing sickening, though. I mean, it's not like the Poles ever killed anyone just for being of a different ethnicity, either.

So - do you speak Polish? Have you ever visited? What exactly do you know about Polish-German relations?

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

in Poznan 25% down

More lies.

Poznan is about 8-10% down from the all-time high for older blocks (for example, Rataje/Jezyce/Piatkowo). The newer blocks haven't budged at all - in fact, they seem to still be rising.

globalpropertyguide.com/Europe/Poland/Price-History

That link is nearly a year out of date and shows that house prices climbed massively and only fell back a short way.

Mark, buying a property in Poland is the same as everywhere else. You work, along with your partner, and then you can afford a house. Simple.

Life / Struggling young Polish couple - try to solve their problem [176]

Did the banker just so happen to have a vested interest in property prices collapsing, perhaps?

I know the property market here - and there certainly isn't 2,000 houses just waiting to "go on the market". In fact, what was seen in Poland was that money simply wasn't lent unless the banks were certain of getting it back - so Poland avoided much of the problems seen elsewhere.

Life / Struggling young Polish couple - try to solve their problem [176]

And where did you read this? Mark Biernat's Guide to Property?

There wasn't 1000's of repossessed houses to begin with.

My first neighbour when i came to Polska lived in a 60m2 flat together with his wife their 3children (2boys and a girl), his old Dad (who apparently is the owner of the flat) and their dog.

It's worth pointing out that many, many of these people can perfectly well afford to move out - but they don't because it's much easier. I know at least two people who live under such arrangements, not because they can't afford to, but because they're planning to purchase a property outright.

News / Polish robots in race for Mars [24]

We have the strongest man in the world

No longer. He's also not so much of a badass anymore, what with losing two of his last three fights.

the Pope

He's German, dumbass.

the man who invented modern astronomy, and now the future of space exploration... in your face Russia, U.K., and Germany. Anyone who says Polish people are dumb should look at this.

You're certainly dumb if you think the Pope is Polish.

Anyway, less of the "we", traitor.

From what I've seen, the Czech Republic is no better than Poland. Anyone who's crossed the border at Kudowa-Slone/Nachod will know what I mean.

Love / Married in Poland, now wanting divorce, does she have rights to half my earnings? [67]

BTW I don`t have any bad feelings about you, so any time you are in Warsaw you can drop in at my office and I will give you free of charge consultation :) .

Monia, on a serious level -

I have a suggestion for you that might be worth looking into, especially if you deal with contract law :)

Work / Average monthly salary in Poland is around 1000 PLN (few hundred bucks). [387]

I want to know tat de odd jobs in wroclaw will be gud enough to cover the living expenses??

Odd jobs don't go to foreigners, they go to Poles.

You certainly won't earn enough to cover living costs. As much as it pains me to say it, Milky is right - you'll only survive if you're prepared to tolerate truly awful living conditions.

As a guide, non-EU students can expect to earn about 5zl an hour working illegally unless you have a demonstrated, verifiable skill. A BA in electrical engineering isn't going to cut it.

Work / Tourism industry jobs in Poland?? [10]

How do you propose working as a travel agent if you aren't fluent in Polish?

In general, jobs go to people who can speak Polish. There might be some jobs in big hotels and suchlike, but it's not going to be easy.

Why do you want to move here?

USA, Canada / Polish Law and divorce from a US citizen - when does it apply? [11]

I don't think he can do anything unless we are in Poland.

First things first, make sure that the US border guards know that the children are not to be removed from the USA under any circumstance. The Polish legal system is a mess - it wouldn't shock me if he actually managed to persuade the family court (as it's called here) that he should have custody. Obviously, America won't enforce Polish judgements in this respect - but you never know what a foreign jurisdiction might do.

Also : make sure that you never sign any documents allowing the children to have a Polish passport.

Essentially, while he could try opening a criminal case against you in Poland - as long as you stay in the US, you've got nothing to worry about. Personally though - I recommend staying clear of Europe if he does attempt any legal action - Poland is notorious for trying to get people deported to Poland for sometimes very trivial things.

Genealogy / Polish nationality? Which of the following (if any) determine being Polish. [231]

Really!!!! PolskiDump is self-hater???? *snicker* ROFL

Yep. Claims to be half Polish and half German. For what it's worth - I think he's really just a plain old racist American ;)

Certainly, his nonsense about Russians being friends of Poles shows him to be totally ignorant.

Love / Married in Poland, now wanting divorce, does she have rights to half my earnings? [67]

As far as I am aware, no she can't, unless you have been physical with her.

Actually, in his case - as I understand it, once the divorce is finalised, his residence permit will no longer be valid (as the decision will be made on the basis of marriage - so a divorce will annul this) and the 90 day clock will start.

Life / Who is poor in Poland? [720]

You can just imagine working with the guy, telling you the same "Dumb Polack joke" over and over without a hint of irony.

I can imagine him now, constantly criticising Poland non-stop, while the rest of the workers sit there going "man, what's his beef?".

Must be a sad life if he actually has time at work to post constant stuff about how bad Poland is. I can only assume that the toilets must be cleaned on a rota and he's a quick worker.

History / What was it like in 1989+ in Poland when the Soviet house of cards fell? [237]

I think, it was 1978.

Thank you ever so much for your story - it helps me with trying to put the book together. I really appreciate it, thanks :)

I'm shocked that there was no wire at the PL/CZ/SU border - I know exactly where you mean (been there myself), and that's a huge surprise for me to learn that.

Travel / Attractions in Wrocław: a Must-See List [117]

Of the abominable cruelties practised in zoos it is unnecessary to make mention.

Of course, you're saying that, not knowing anything about Wroclaw Zoo.

Perhaps you might want to ask Mago what he thinks about his enclosure these days.

Travel / Attractions in Wrocław: a Must-See List [117]

I would also add the zoo to the list, if anybody travels with kids.

Yep, especially as you can now get a joint ticket for both the Zoo and the Aquapark - 99zl for the family.

It's definitely the best attraction in Wroclaw for kids, anyway.

What I'd actually do (if there in summer) would be to visit the zoo in the afternoon, then go for a picnic near the fountain at the back of Hala Ludowa - wait until night, then you can watch the multimedia fountain too :)
