History / POLISH IDENTITY-shift from communism to democracy [28]

Yes, unlike Plastic Poles, we actually live here.

Educate us Pole-hating-grumpy-limey on how polish identity changed from commie times to democracy.

After all, you were present in Poland during the commie era so making a comparison between now and then shouldn't be a problem for you. Same goes for your partner in crime, harry.

Just google "agencje towarzyskie" or "kluby nocne" - this is all the info you english lads want to know in poland.

Good luck and have fun!

Life / All Saints' Day in Poland - Commemoration or Carnival? [44]

The hot dogs, as people have said, can feed a traveller weary from visiting four cemeteries in one day, and the Panska Skórka shuts up the whining kids, but the other stuff? The Pole I accompanied found it extremely distasteful for such a somber day.

Candy floss, toys etc. that you saw at one cemetery is very uncommon on all saints day. I bet the people you saw selling this crap were dirt poor and just looking to make ends meet.

Besides, christmas is much more commercialized and i don't see you complaining about it...

Life / All Saints' Day in Poland - Commemoration or Carnival? [44]

I strolled around the cemeteries in my area today, and was rather shocked. I was under the impression that today was a day for thoughtful reminiscing of the past; a moment of reflection for those who came before.

It's a cultural event not a carnival you moron! It's also family event to pay respects to the dead!

Eating is disrespectful to the dead? Food stands / toi toi are a good idea for any event that attracts thousands of people. Many poles spend HOURS getting to these cemeteries, cleaning tombstones/decorating/praying/whatever, then getting back home. People get hungry during this time!!

In my many years in poland i have never seen cheap chinese toys being sold outside of cemeteries.
This holiday is not very commercialized either - there's much more that could be done in this regard - and unfortunately it will soon go down this path.

News / Upping the speed limit in Poland [92]

Speed limit increase in poland?? Wow what a mistake. This will only encourage people to driver faster and more recklessly (if this is even possible) on the ****** polish road system.

UK, Ireland / How long would it take for an English style restaurant in Poland to go bust? [80]

Try starting up a place like "Jacek i Agatka" (pay by weight) near the galeria dominikanska (wroclaw) or the hala targowa. Every time i walk by there i see a massive line up. Good "home cooked" food and reasonable prices. Not only students like this place but i`ve also seen many krauts eating there.

Life / Poland's Next Top Model (TV show) [73]

Jealous women.

Yo - an - anna

Doesn't exist.

News / Do Poles take Kaczynski seriously!? [199]

Jarek just wants a huge monument to be built for his brother on the grounds of the presidential palace to honour the memory of this [sarcasm] great political leader [/sarcasm]. Laying him to rest in wawel was not enough.

Study / Admitted To Warsaw University Of Technology (Politechnika Warszawska) [69]

Not everyone can study in Britain, Ireland, USA etc. All schools have limits and standards that must be met before entrance into the institution.

These pakis coming to poland were probably not accepted to these better known english unis so they chose Poland - i'm sure plenty of others chose czech rep, hungary, germany, austria etc...

They go where they are accepted. Anywhere in Europe is better than pakistan or nigeria. And poland is in the EU so i'm sure they will try to make their way over to western europe eventually.

Love / Polish girls fall for Indian guys ? [217]

Many Polish girls fall for Indian guys. They said Indian guys are cuter, smarter, work harder, and know how to treat women better than other guys. Is this true?

Polish women will fall for just about any foreigner who is financially well off. Most foreigners in poland are doing quite well - either have good paying jobs or in the case of ESL teachers, have better opportunities back in their home countries.

Oh and indians are not very attractive.

Work / Salary for an architect with 3years experience in warsaw [37]

Dear members, i am an architect with 3 years of experience in foreign western country. I am moving to Poland and searching for a job at an architecture office in warsaw; how much do i expect as salary? 3000 zl NET? 3500 ? 4000? please give me an advice, thank you.

The way you wrote that suggests to me that you are not native to a "foreign western country." You're probably from a third world country.

BTW, if you don't speak polish then your chances of finding employment in poland (other than ESL teacher) are very slim. There are many uni grads in poland having a hard time finding relevant work.

Life / Why so many soldiers walking on Polish streets? [17]

haha i was hoping to get a response from some russkies on PF (if we have any).

But seriously, the reason why soldiers can be seen on the streets at times is because they are reporting for duty. Before mandatory military service was ended, i remember seeing many young men in uniforms in railway stations waiting for trains to take them to boot camp.

News / Does it seem to you that Russia loves Poland now? [35]

That's from foreign perspective, please. I've got the Polish perspective, with Putin friend - Smolensk trap - crosses scandal - gas expensive.

They're pretending to "love" poland because they know they can get further by being nice than hostile.

Love / 'Battered husbands' - still a taboo subject in Poland [387]

You don't understand the concept. 50/50 is a common saying because work progress varies from 0%-100%. You can have 1 person doing 100% of the work or two people doing 50% each. Saying 100/100 is just plain stupid!

God you are such a typical polish woman. I pitty polish men.

Love / 'Battered husbands' - still a taboo subject in Poland [387]

if it's 50/50 there are problems... it's gotta be 100/100....

huh? What?

I don't always understand your logic. I realise you're a woman (naturally confusing) and polish (complicated), but please try to make more sense.

Love / 'Battered husbands' - still a taboo subject in Poland [387]

I can't quite picture a woman physically abusing a man. I know for a fact that no woman would ever rise her hand against me. Men that are bullied by their women are beta males and have let their women get away with too much in their relationships. If it's not 50-50, then there are always problems.

Now emotional abuse i understand. Divorce is a good example of emotional abuse as the law always sides with the woman and as a result the woman gets the kids, house, car etc. whilst the man is forced to move into a sh!tty flat in a black neighborhood.

‘Battered husbands’ - still a taboo subject in Poland

I think this is the case everywhere.

Work / English teacher from Turkey, have any chance to work in Poland? [71]

There are countless Poles who teach English in Poland, even though many of them are not fluent in the english language.

Why would a Polish language school want to hire you (u require a visa/work permit ie: you are a hassle) over a Pole trained to teach English?

News / DSZ in Poland: Desperate German attempt to improve their genepool. [20]

14. Jakie prawo chroni Dawców?
Niestety w Polsce brakuje uregulowań prawnych dotyczących zapłodnienia pozaustrojowego. Niemieckie prawo chroni Dawców, dlatego Dawca zostaje zarejestrowany w niemieckim Banku Nasienia.

My polish is a little rusty. So polish law doesn't protect the rights of the donor but german law does, so donors are registered in german databases?Something about privacy?
