History / Would you classify the Poland's Communist years as a "Soviet occupation" ? [221]

Sorry but this question just popped into my head and I'd be interested to hear your views on this.

ehrm yes

1939-1941
From the red army's march into Poland and til Stalin's death
and later on until 1989 when Poland did not lay claims to her earlier borders.
Before that, yes Poland was occupied.
"Polska" republik ludowa was not occupied. It was the occupier which the Kreml was controlling

Just because a goose is called a swan and is accepted by the whole world, it still doesn't make it a swan.
PRL was nor will ever been have Poland. It was an illusion which sadly many Poles did accept for a long time. (hence Harry's large party member list)

History / Warsaw - under whose occupation in late 19th century? [16]

how many troops the Soviet had in Poland Harry? and how many NKVD or KGB agents?

The Polish army was infiltrated by Soviet citizens which spoke poor Polish (maybe they had some Polish background from their tip tip tip grandfather but, that doesn't help much... Look at Putin he had a Polish grandmother... He is still Russian)

History / Lithuanians hate Poles? [156]

that would have require general change of their myths and fiction they call history.Hardly possible.

Stalin made Hitler into friends of the people.... Everything is possible..
If there is a will there is a way

What about western PC hit Lithuania? I would laugh out loud :)

History / Lithuanians hate Poles? [156]

Sikorski

Yeah... I guess they wanted to take a more clear stand then the former ministers which were pro-Lithuanian just like Piłsudski (remember Piłsudski may have been the plan-master behind taking Vilnius but, Polish feelings towards Lithuanians wanting an separate country and not fighting the Soviets as the Poles did could easily have led to a take over which I truly believe Piłsudski did everything he could to prevent. His concern was for Vilnius to fall into Soviet hands, since he thought that the Baltic nations could anytime be swallowed by the Soviet union)

History / Lithuanians hate Poles? [156]

No way, they would rather take pro Roma stance than pro serb

Rome never was popular in Poland, not until our own Pope got to be in Rome...
Just read up what happened with the contra-reformation in Poland
Being catholic was seen as not being something our enemies were... (Swedes&Prussians (later most Germans) = protestant, Russians& Ukrainians = Orthodox Ottomon Empire = Islamic). Austria never was an huge enemy of Poland... That's maybe why we didn't go and do the Czech recipe.

Back to topic
I wish the Lithuanians were more pro-Polish :/

History / Lithuanians hate Poles? [156]

Serbs are less liked than Turks,Jews,Ukrainians,Russians...

Mostly because of historical ignorance of the Balkans, if most Poles would know Croatia's history (German historical "friendship") they would tend more to side with Serbia. I bet that Poles that do know or have some information about Balkan history (pointing at Croatia) they would take an anti-Croatian stance or slight pro-Serbian stance. As you see in the statistic it could only be cause of propaganda and ignorance that most Poles tend to be positive towards Croatia and skeptical towards Serbia (Croatia = Catholic anti-Russian?, while Serbia = Russia's brother). The thing that Russia risked a world war to help Serbia isn't too positive in Poland unless one learns the rest.

We have double-naming in Poland too: Polish-Lithuanian plates, Polish-German, Polish-Kashubian. Polish-Lemko...

You see... Lithuanians want an modern state based on their own nationality. Having their language only

History / Lithuanians hate Poles? [156]

Actually not.

I would recommend reading
Gorzka Chwała
Polska i jej los 1918-1939

An American written it without any connection with Poland
He is sometimes harsh at places (which I could call him almost Germanophilic) but, the rest is VERY neutral and is harsh to both sides (like not blaming Czechs alone but Poles and Czechs)

Reading it, you could understand why Poland was behaving like it did to minorities and why Poland didn't annex Lithuania during her resurrection.
The strong need to be counted as an power or an major power in her area is a big hint

(To mods, this book shows Poland's past during 1918-1939 which is a base for today's relations with Poland for Lithuanians, I think it is perfectly on topic to recommend this book)

History / 13 of December - the anniversary of MARTIAL LAW in Poland [48]

So you have no interest in the truth; how surprising.

Stop lying, I have an interesst in the truth, (didn't I say that you should get it to Gazeta Wyborcza so that it could get published and maybe discussed?)

It just won't change a fact that that swine was working for the party and not for Poland. Letting an invasion in would mean disfavor for the government, unless it took a radical position and de-communized itself.

Another day left largely ignored by Poles. Odd!

Hardly surprising
I don't care much for that guy, nor should anyone

History / Are there still communists in Poland? [58]

So I came closer and there was a huge picture of Lenin hanging at the wall

You sure it wasn't written "Poszukiwany za morderstwa&gwałty&inwazje" on the top of that picture? Cause it would explain A LOT! :)

News / MORE ANTI-POLISH SENTIMENT IN GERMANY [280]

i blame Russia for this. Russia shouldn`t allow Germany to re-unite after annihilated all those Slavs back in WWII.

Calm down, breath! A few more steppes and your closer to be called a Pole :)

USA, Canada / Why do Americans (and Canadians) hate Polish people? [226]

Very simple answer, when they have to paint their flag they have to use a lot of effort to paint their flags (symbols and such on them) while Poland white&red and then TA DA DONE!

Very simple childish behavior from childish minds

History / Do Poles really blame Britain for Poland becoming Communist after the war? [104]

Well since the most "we will die for our emperor" country surrendered cause of atomic pressure I see no reason of why Stalin wouldn't.

Although the big question is: Would Roosevelt ever agree to it? Since when talking about Katyń he was solely convinced that "the Russians did not do this".

His greatest goal was having the big three together and create 4 global powers which would co-operate and rule the world and even dis-arm all other minor countries. He would be much faster in bombing communist China then the Soviet Union.

News / The cross in Polish parliament - Does it bother you? [100]

So for you the Middle Ages continued till 16/17 century?

I was in character it's not my personal opinion, it's the PC

I am not about to make claims to knowledge I don't have but seeing as you're an expert on the matter, please explain the point of the other symbols being placed alongside the cross here in Poland.

commonwealth.pl

If you click on this link you can get to know that those symbols have their right to be there. All those symbols have a connection with Poland

Doesn't the Polish Constitution call for seperation of Church and State? If so, then clearly the crucifix should go.

Seperation doesn't mean abolishing
It's a reason it's a common man sitting next to the crucifix and not a clergyman

History / Do Poles really blame Britain for Poland becoming Communist after the war? [104]

Sorry, how does one third of a ship sail ?

I am so sorry my level of English is quite bad. I meant that 1/3 of the Poles that were ex-servicemen went back to "Poland".

The rest made themselves go elsewhere or stayed in Britain

Around 50% stayed, 50% returned.

Really? Some weird sources my books did have then, telling me how concerned the British politicians were that only 1/3 went back

History / Do Poles really blame Britain for Poland becoming Communist after the war? [104]

Ship loads of " London" Poles did go back to Poland on,erm, ships and planes specially chartered.

if by saying loads you mean max 1/3 then yeah

Do you really think they all went back expecting a nagant bullet in the brain?

Most of them yeah, but their family was important so they tried to either check out if their alive or get them out of there while they still could. lucky for most of them who weren't politically active they only had a worse life then most citizens. If politically active they got to jail/shot

Love / Do young Polish ladies 17-23 speak any English? [59]

No problem, half Polish myself, went on vacation to Poland 2 times a year when i was a kid. Since I speak Polish quite well most think I am 100% Polish and living there, but if they ask where I live or where I am from they get surprised but, even so never anything negative.

History / Do Poles really blame Britain for Poland becoming Communist after the war? [104]

Not really

I would like to know how you would have felt if Modern day Russia invaded Poland and after the time you spent in Poland you would volunteer to fight Russian troops on any soil on the earth if necessary! Then after fighting Russians in several years the host country won with Russia but, you could never return back to Poland because an political party had seized control over Poland proclaiming that the type of people being outside the country had no place in the "new Poland" and knowing you would get shot getting back, and if you had any family or friends that you knew were shot/imprisoned/sent off to world outskirts.

I would like to know if that wouldn't be horrible for you to live abroad in a country, which had THAT country's citizens pay your retirement and not Poland's.

But it would be nice if Poles could stop lying about what happened to their countrymen at the end of the war.

I can tell you my family story if you want in PM

Either that or start paying the bills for their countrymen's accommodation.

Could you clarify it a bit more, I am not so sure what your talking about

Hundreds of thousands of Polish servicemen were given British citizenship after the war and tens of thousands of their dependents were brought to the UK after the war. Why were those things done if Britain wanted shot of the Poles?

That was done after the British politicians had concluded that the Poles that didn't go back to their new "country" nor emigrated elsewhere couldn't be sitting around doing nothing.

Do they learn English in school?

When I was 1 year in Poland I was teaching myself English + German
(private school tho)

I'm looking to go to Poland when I'm 18. I love everything about Poland and the history has always interested me, I also love the woman.

You shouldn't have a problem

- I'm mixed race, Lewis Hamilton skin color, I know they will be intrigued by my skin, but is racism high?

probably not from hatred/dislike/jealousy
One of the few places Poles had contact with people having African ancestry was on Haiti and U.S.A that is known by some people (probably even more lot's of Poles around in the world ;)) so only thing is curiosity... Behave ok and then they should behave ok I guess

History / Do Poles really blame Britain for Poland becoming Communist after the war? [104]

Bollox, our entire nation went to war...........

Oh right the Polish government controlled the British army and the British war effort... right... While Britain controlled... what exactly?

For what?

Your question is my answer

Have you even the tiniest concept of mobilising an army, transporting it across the ocean into another soverign country ( France was the senior partner, the only country with a land force in Europe during the 3 and a bit weeks Poland held out) and then readying it for conflict? Do you think that could be done in under a month even these days?

I do have an concept of it, my list isn't my blame Britain list. it's a list of what Poles then + now felt what Britain did. Feelings quite often are not based on logic

Oh, fcuk off loon

Nice to meet you too my name is Mr. Grunwald

it was a plane crash, pure and simple, sh!t happens in war, especially when you load a bunch of pissed men and their baggage haphazardly in a Bomber and then take off over the sea....

After having seen an NKVD agent nearby on a British controlled airport and a Czech pilot
If something did happen it would been more logical to blame the Soviets for it, meaning perfect situation for such an attempt from the British side (no proofs yet but, it's still in the list sorry, I am not master of Poland to make them follow my opinion :))

again, utter bollox

Last time I checked it did happen, and ive read how ex-servicemen complained about behavior from some groups of people

ALL HM Forces were being De Mobbed, why should a bunch of foreginers be kept on when Britons were being cashiered from the Forces?

That's from an economical point of view

Yes, Poles, surprise surprise were encouraged to return to Poland after the war........FFS..........but no one was forced.

Thank God they weren't forced! How would the Poles look at that? Having Poles fight for them and then just drop em into a firing squad!

They were encouraged to leave Great Britain and not to settle in the commonwealth what so ever.

Indeed. And some of those Poles live to this very day at the expense of the British taxpayer.

I know, how horrible
