USA, Canada / Where can I buy Polish Beer in SC? [26]

The sugar that comes from beets and the sugar that comes from canes tastes the same.

definitely not.. that's the difference in taste in sodas in the usa and everywhere else.

corn crops suck up every nutrient and mineral out of the field like a sponge leaving the soil dry, but i dont really know so.

anyone know any good wheat beers, i cant stay on topic sorry.

again, not so on the corn.. it's the beans that suck up every nutrient in the soil thus crop rotation is necessary

there are many wheat beers on the market.. hacker pschorr may be some of the best but all the german ones are darn good too.. i;d stay away from any of the wanna be's made in the usa tho.

History / Jaruzelski asked Soviets for assistance [51]

Since we know now that the Soviets had no intentions to invade in 1981

maybe or maybe not but i can tell you for sure that i saw russian soldiers stationed at warsaw train stations and other places like that in the summer of '81... asked or not, there was definitely a threat of them coming over the border and instilling "order"

i wish you'd all drop the personal insults and i also wish you'd link some of this other info you all keep sending to each other some other way.. kills the exploration of this subject for me.. thanks

Life / Why do majority of Polish are afraid to admit their nationality? [28]

this is a good question.. i saw it last night and just had to think about it... i'm not sure if it's a majority of poles that are "ashamed" of their polishness but it is true.. i am thinking it's because poland has never been a "cool" country to be from... i can't think of another reason for it.. in the past i didn't always admit being from PL right away.. but most people have no idea i'm not an american...

Love / I don't know if she's married and I don't speak Polish - help me romantic folks [55]

It doesn't mean a thing.. If you are determined enough, you can have a woman wearing wedding-ring as well..

that's just freaking rude.. i hope you experience that sometime then since you even suggest such a disrespectful thing.

If you want to impress Polish lady, don't use Polish language in her presence, you'd better play a role of rich foreigner... But if you really must do it, choose one of these options:

1) Chcesz się bzykać? (khtzesh s-ye bsikatz?)
2) Twoje krągłe kształty doprowadzają mnie do ekstazy (I am too lazy to transliterate it)
3) Ile bierzesz za szybki numerek? (eele b-ye-zesh sa sheebkee noo-merek)

this is also pretty rude.. are you as big of a dupa as you just came across here?

wulkan is another arse.. don't listen to him/her/it

king's polish is horrendous too so don't go with any of that.

USA, Canada / Are you a US citizen? Test for Americans. [67]

on the racism question. And not because I am sure, I'm right.

you're way wrong because many, many poles (and maybe even a majority) are freaking terrible racist

Genealogy / Just found out my real last name is "Woyakski" [10]

Genealogy / Obtaining Records from churches and archives in Poland (other than email) [4]

do you translate your correspondence? if it isn't in polish, i guarantee it hits the rubbish bin immediately. the other thing is that they may not really get what you are after. it seems the best way to obtain archival info in poland is to do it in person.

hope others have better advice but you may also do some searching of these forums as there is a lot of info on this topic in here.

good luck

USA, Canada / Dual citizenship - US doesn't care if you don't give up Polish passport [103]

They complain enough about US citizens having lived in foreign countries, good luck on trying to get it as a naturalized citizen. You might want to have a back up job, because you'll be waiting a long ass time to get it.

let me tell ya, you don't want that crap.. secret clearance is way too much trouble that is not worth a damn unless you love to give up every freaking little detail about yourself and then have everyone that has ever known you get hassled.. this is along the lines of the too the long arm of crooked US law i mentioned above.. just don't do it, i say.. it really isn't worth it.. last time i was "offered" this, i told them to go eff themselves. lol

are Americans allowed to hold dual passports?

by written law, only citizens of Israel.

When someone has busted their ass paying into a scam like social security, they deserve to get every penny back out of it.

effin eh!

That doesn't necessarily mean renounce citizenship, though, does it?

oh, most definitely that is what it means exactly... it makes no sense otherwise... you're either an american or you're not... what about if USA got in a war with PL? you're either with us or against us, mang. ;) :D

Shhh, me too....

exactly, it's actually illegal.. look it up.. unless you're a jew, that is..

you'd still be a citizen if you were born here

actually a subject, as she said... look into it.

here is the current US oath:
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------

I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States [...]

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oath_of_Allegiance_(United_States)

---------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------
and this is what it means:

The current exact text of the Oath of Citizenship is established only in the form of an administrative regulation promulgated by the executive branch. However, under the Administrative Procedure Act, USCIS could theoretically change the text of the oath at any time, so long as the new text reasonably meets the "five principles" mandated by the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1953. These principles are:

* allegiance to the United States Constitution,
* renunciation of allegiance to any foreign country to which the immigrant has had previous allegiances to
* defense of the Constitution against enemies "foreign and domestic"
[...]

USA, Canada / Dual citizenship - US doesn't care if you don't give up Polish passport [103]

Why do I want citizenship? My family is scaring me that if I don't get around to it, I might be loosing my social security and possible health benefits... and whatever else, in the future. So I started looking into it.

bs but the rights of aliens are not exactly the same as citizens.. one thing that an alien is not a subject to the long arm of crooked US law but there are benefits too.

Love / How common is it for husbands in Poland to open their wife's mail ? [30]

if you haven't spoken to her... send a letter of introduction first and ask about sending on pictures later.

i'm gonna go with wroclaw here.. no pictures as first contact. this may be too traumatic for her. simple intro and your intentions is where i would start. then go from there.. baby steps...

Touching story. Wish you all the best!

Love / Polish girlfriend going back to Poland if I dont buy engagment ring [85]

You can't grow to love someone. It has to already be there.

that's just rubbish..

First off, one doesn't threaten to leave a relationship over an engagement ring?

agreed... and that's why my opinion is that she needs to go.. i wouldn't put up with an ultimatum. that is NOT love.
