Love / Marriage with a polish woman - Heaven or Forever Hell ? [60]

Isn't it. What strikes me about is how earnest he is. I wonder how many people in PL get fed a diluted version of that, especially in rural districts where people believe what they are told in the pulpit or the confessional. I wouldn't go so far as to say it explains people's mindset about relationships, but it must have influence.

Love / Marriage with a polish woman - Heaven or Forever Hell ? [60]

It's actually something an acquaintance sent that he wrote recently. Interestingly he's a celibate RC priest involved in something called 'Catholic Marriage Guidance'. His works are available in Polish translation. That's by no means what most Polish women expect or believe. It is however an extreme example of the sort of thing that many are told about married life by figures with so-called moral authority.

News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

Well, well I'm learning everyday something new. Today I have learned that horse-meat has nationality.::D

It does indeed. the horse was called Wojciech.

It's all about expectations. People (many people, anyway) expect ready made food cheaply and in quantity. Something has to give.

They didn't trace anything. DNA test came back positive for horsemeat.

And they traced horsemeat from the supply chain.

In fact, Poland is the only place where Horsemeat has NOT been found marked as beef.

Because either a. it was only exported or more likely b. there is less far transparency in public life, a weaker media andno legal obligation to disclose the information.

Try reading the newspaper article you are responding to rather that making up your own self serving story line.

An amusing statement, from one who tried everything else and failed.

They refused to ban beef for six years after the evidence was clear that it was a health risk. Lying to the public to protect the beef industry, yeah I suppose its not a coverup.

It was available in the shops even after it was banned from institutional catering - and yes, the very fact that we have so much information at our fingertips on the matter shows that it is not covered up.

A car once crashed outside my office in Warsaw where the passenger had her baby in the front seat with her. I can still remember her hysterical screaming and passers-by crying.

News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

CJD

Was discovered decades ago - however you try to spin it.

There is no 'supply chain management'.
There is no traceability.

I doubt the supermarkets in question would agree with you. Especially since they traced it.

BSE disaster was a good example of open and transparent handling of a food scare

Very. If there was a cover-up, how would we know so much about it.

The supposed 'quality' and branding of food is undermined when you discover Findus buy anonymous lasagna from foreign factories with no quality control whatsoever, and the supermarkets are doing the same thing.

Hardly anonymous, and as you'll know (though not neccessarily understand) if you read the newspapers, it has been discovered.

Any news on English horse meat ?

So far, the only horsemeat that has been positively tracked down was Polish. The Romania aspect is interesting and needs investigation, troll.

Life / Cost of Living in Lodz [50]

A lot of people do live on that much, however in a city you'll have to be quite careful in order toget by.

CJD

Discoverd by and named after them in 1960.

So, we have discovered you have no idea what BSE i

rather better than you, it seems.

Strange you think that Supply Chain management is 'vague waffle' - I suppose we've come to expect such nonsense from you. The oddest thing is that you've failed to spot the obvious. The horsemeat issue was discovered and exposed through the correct channels.

As I seay, with the beef issue, it was entirely transparent. Well publicised, fully investigated. No cover-ups. Important that the same happens here.

Love / Marriage with a polish woman - Heaven or Forever Hell ? [60]

The sanctity of the family has been broken, the same goes with marriage.

Nothing but vaginal intercourse between a married man and his married woman with the man placed ABOVE the woman so as to demonstrate the subordination of woman is blessed by God. Oral and anal intercourse are abominations and so is masturbation and other positions than the one described above. A man who wishes salvation must accept these teachings and try to live accordingly, confess sins against these commandments and practice ascetism so as to control sinful sexual wishes. Why do not you accept traditional christian teachings on sexuality? Not to accept traditional christian teaching is of course heresy.

Life / Cost of Living in Lodz [50]

It's certainly below the national average (3510 pln gross) and really not that much for a city. After paying for somewhere to live, even with subsidised rent like you've been offered, you'll have to be very, very frugal indeed, especially after tax and social insurance are deducted.

The money is ok-ish for an entry level job for someone quite young. What sort of job is it?

History / What do nations of the world owe to Poland and Polish people? [58]

Of course the Nobel laureate Singer - a wonderful writer, came from Warsaw. I sometimes wish Zeromski was better known abroad.

Along with Przewalski and Fredro, It's also worth mentioning Karol Szymański, Wanda Landowska the world's best-known harpsichordist, Tamara de £empicka and Wacław Niżyński (known in the West as Nijinsky). I forgot to mentionthat Isadora Duncan was a distinguished LGBT icon too

certain MP!

In the capital at least, most people don't get in nearly as much of a tizzy as you about so-called 'flaunting'. How long have you lived outside Poland?

The best ones are.

I do wish menus with translations wouldn't call Schabowy "a chop". It isn't.

Language / Does anyone know where I can learn Polish for free? [35]

Please try my Learn Real Polish Podcast
realpolish.pl
You can find there tons of free materials (audio+text)

That's quite a nice resource!

If you are familiar with torrents. Shouldn't be difficult to ''borrow'' a program to help

A little bird told me that a well-known torrent aggregator, one that's illegal in Europe, has Pimsleur Polish however obviously it would be illegal to use if it is banned in your jurisdiction.

Life / Drivers and Mobile Phones In Poland [14]

I would like to see an increase of enforcement by the Polish authorities regarding drivers and the use of their mobile phones whilst driving.

It's illegal in Poland, but they still risk it. Selfishness is part of the driving culture.

Speeding too - a kind of sarmacka fantazja thing. Definitely not clever, and frankly self-destructive, but still they do it.

This quote is something of an understatement:

Local driving standards are poor: speed limits, traffic lights and road signs are often ignored and drivers rarely indicate before manoeuvring.......

fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/europe/poland

Speeding fines are no problem, just hand the cop 100zl with you license and problem disappears

Still works out in the sticks - don't even think about it round Warsaw.

News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

vCJD was discovered in the early 1990's. You might want to explain your lies.

Given that Dr. Creutzfelt died in 1964 and Dr. Jakob died in 1931, I wonder if you think they discovered it using an ouija board?

Then again, lies are something we've come to expect from you. As I say, check out the concept of Supply Chain within the food industry. And check out the meaning of libel while you're at it.

Ethnically one can easily become something. Ancestry isn't the same as ethnicity.

News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

I did check it out,

You might want to see when Kreuzfelt-Jakob disease was identified. By the way, I lived through it too.

Polish authorities could not be trusted and the British could be trusted.

This much we know from recent events.

Out right lie in the face of legal, scientific evidence. British beef was banned for a decade, most of the herd was culled and certain types of cattle was banned from the food chain because it was unsafe.

Absolute truth. Your 'argument' proves the effective response to the issue.

here is no evidence the meat even came from Poland

Check out the meaning of supply-chain. The products have been identified as being contaminated by Polish horsemeat.

Careful what you say Jon, lying and making unprovable claims is libel, no matter where you are.

Lying is something we all know you understand, from your past and present habits here, however perhaps you ought to check the definition of libel before mouthing off.

BSE definitely started in the UK

Check it out. It was nothing new.

And is irrelevant to the Polish contaminated meat scandal.

when they could no longer cover it up

Cover-up. It was very transparent. And Mr Gummer was quite righ. The meat was safe.

Especially since it supposedly is healthier than beef and por

Almost anything is healthier than pork, but if you buy a product on the shelf, you expect it to contain what it says on the label. Not contaminated meat from Eastern Europe.
