Feedback / A Personal Request to all PF members [119]

Just a reminder Ironside....you were asked this yesterday:

"Have you ever been to the United States of America?"

Still waiting for an answer. Sure, you've dodged the question 900 times already so I don't expect anything different now but yesterday, you suggested it wasn't true, so yet again, I'm challenging you to answer it.

This forum goes on and on about the USA yet her biggest critics are those who have never even been there, Ironside being one of them. It's pretty pathetic.

Not trying to ransack your thread LTB, just showing you that singing kumbaya isn't always an option. In this case, calling out Ironside on his bull$hit.

I know I'm just taunting now, but ain't it great how Ironside is on here every day nonstop yet when challenged with a question he doesn't want to answer, he takes a vacation from PF?

I'll be sure to ask this question again next time I see you on here.......you know.....when you feel the storm has blown over......

man.....i keep reading this thread and i flat out don't understand what LTB is talking about. i'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming he didn't just mean to say, "can we just be nicer to each other?" there must be more to this ongoing thread than that..........right???? if not, it's just as pointless as I currently think it is.

i have a request. instead of referring back to your OP when asked questions, how about you give us a bulleted list, 3 bullets would be good, to summarize what the point of this thread is.

No you still don't understand (as usual). Lodz politely asks all those antisemitic and racist bigots to shut up because people visiting this site think that we all here are Polish.

I don't think that's why she created this thread. But, like I said, I'm still struggling to see the point of this thread.

I never said they didn't. Go back and read my post.

Brits or especially Americans and then you have it, they cry and whine and say a lot of BS - it is funny :)

you know what the difference is between Americans/Brits living in Poland posting on PF vs. Poles on PF commenting about America/UK??? The American/UK posters have actually LIVED and WORKED in Poland, often times for several years.

I'll tell you what's "funny" Ironside......just about every single observation you make about the USA.....considering you've never so much as visited the damn place. Don't worry, you're not alone on this forum.

keeping Poles in your mind

starting to see a little clearer now.

This forum isn't specially designed for any one particular person and I'm not going to listen to someone making ''polite requests" to alter it because some poles that go on here get bent out of shape or offended or tired of reading yet more criticism about their beloved country. I like nice people as much as the next guy but this is an open forum and Poland is not all peaches and cream.....don't expect people to have only good things to say about it. Poland gives the expat plenty of reasons to pi$$ and moan.

PF can be a good tool for someone looking to come to Poland and would like to get a good look inside the country from others' perspectives. If we start posting differently because it gives Poland a bad name or hurts others' feelings, those people will be coming to Poland on false hope. I'd rather someone tell it to me straight than be bull$hitted to.

In general, this is not a very "nice" forum. Lots of arguing, lots of whining, lots of complaining......BUT.....that should tell you something. Go on other forums of other countries and see if you notice the same thing. If not, the culture of PF could be a reflection of Poland in and of itself.

They always say that complaining is Poland's national pastime......well.....there you have it. It's not just PF.....it's an entire nation of Poles. The funny part is, Poles will complain all night amongst fellow countrymen about Poland and how messed up it is yet will fight tooth and nail to defend it if an outsider were to make a similar observation. Sorry Poland, you can't have it both ways.....and neither can you Lodz_the_Boat.

Language / So why did you give up learning Polish? [105]

LTB wrote:

Poland is big enough in Europe ... we are progressing economically, and one day we will be a major player. So I think it is wise for anyone to learn Polish :)

I wholeheartedly disagree. Polish takes years and years just to speak it decently.....why put in all that effort when you can learn another language actually worth learning?

It's wishful thinking, LTB.

what kind of car do you want to drive?

how much do you drink?

how much do you eat out?

how much do you travel?

generally, i'd say Delph has given you pretty solid numbers to go by but that all can change depending on how you want to live.

Law / Does Poland have the most prehistorical and strictest banking system in the world? [57]

I don't know about the check situation, never bothered to try, but I always thought the fact that my bank didn't have an english version of their website was a bit "prehistoric". No German, Russian, French, Italian.....just a Polish version. Towards the end when I learned the language it wasn't so bad but in the beginning, every transfer I made was pretty scary, always wondering if I'm selecting the right thing. I also thought it was funny that the branch I used to use IN THE RYNEK only had 1 person that could speak English and when that person wasn't around.....tough luck.

It's just that if someone of Polish descent, waves a Polish flag proudly and claims he loves being Polish but can't say a single word in Polish or says the wrong word (Busha lol) and has never been to Poland, kinda makes him/her look a little silly.

and the same goes for every wanna be patriot in America.

Season 3 of 'Jersey Shore' is going to be in Italy. I can't imagine what the Italians are going to be saying about that motley crew once they show up, all of them claiming to be Italian, saying words like, "mootsadell", "pepperown" and "brazhoot" and wondering why nobody in Italy understands them.

You all talk about the wanna be plastic pole culture in america, it's NOTHING compared to italian americans.

kupek wrote:

In the new season there's a polish actress who will play as a eastern european housemaid

No. she plays a hooker that House offers to marry to help her get papers. yes, she agrees to do housemaid related things, she lives with him, even goes to work with him during the scam but first and foremost, she's a hooker. in the show.

Secondly, how is this mocking Poles? She wasn't even portrayed as a Polish girl in the episode.....but I think you already knew that, considering in your OP, you wrote,"who will play as a eastern european housemaid." Kupek is exactly what this thread is. Hot, steamy kupek.

mujisushi wrote:

I went to office in Wroclaw yesterday to find out my options and they said that for US citizens all I need to do is leave Poland (to any other country) for 1 day, save my receipts, and come back. It seems like risky business to me, but they said its not a problem as long as I have a receipt with my name on it.

which is why i tend to think the Schengen rules are totally unenforced.

it clearly states that staying within Schengen for 90 days consecutively requires you to then leave the schengen for an additional 90 days (90 days within a 180 day period) before you can come back but everyone seems to still just jump borders, hang around for a day, get a hotel receipt or something, and come back in.....and it somehow works. It most certainly shouldn't, not since 2007 was it a valid means of staying legal without a work permit/residency card but people still seem to be getting away with it.

How about other American words like "babka", "kielbasa", "kasha", "pirogies", "bigos", "schav"

first and foremost, these are not american words, they are polish ones.

secondly, americans don't use these words in conversation to describe anything, they're just names of food. most americans have never uttered the words "kasha", "schav", "bigos", "babka"........many not even "pierogies".....because they don't know what they are. "kielbasa" is the only one that most americans know and if you were to pronounce "kielbasa" correctly, you might lose them.

Mt. Dew tastes nothing like Sprite. Mt. Dew is more lemon lime-ish. hard to explain.

also, if you try Mt. Dew in Poland, you're not drinking Mt. Dew. It's not even close.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

man, I wish Mt. Dew was healthy. healthy cigarettes would be fun too.

I love Doin' the Dew but I have backed off considerably. Once, maybe twice a week I'll Do the Dew.

I don't know if you guys get this in Europe, I never saw it when I lived in Poland but the new Mt. Dew, "Throwback", is pretty damn good. I was surprised. For those of you that have never heard of Mt. Dew Throwback, it's got the same wholesome goodness that regular Dew has, just they use real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. I'm a Dew connoisseur so I can tell the difference, it seems to be a tad bit dryer than regular Dew but still excellent. Also, if you're a Pepsi Cola drinker, they make Pepsi Throwback as well.

If you like soda and want to watch your weight, Throwback may be a better choice for you. Your body metabolizes real sugar and burns it for energy whereas high fructose corn syrup goes right to fat storage.

Your useless information for the day.

this doesn't surprise me in the least. anybody else?

it seems like every year, the number of restaurants/fast food joints in Poland double, most of them american owned. i taught at Google, Hewlitt Packard.....ate at Planet Sushi/KFC/Pizza Hut......drank Coca Cola/Pepsi/Red Bull/......even occasionally stopped for green tea at Startucks.......American business and American products in Poland are absolutely everywhere.

two things.

1, I wasn't making a comparison to the USA. you know what they say about assuming.

2, what a bunch of garbage you just posted. do you really think that's an argument? "if you work at Walmart...".....???? Are you serious? Does being a store clerk in ANY country get you a big house in the hills with a Mercedes? come on.

you're reading way too much into what I posted. it was mostly written in response to another poster who i find amusing, to say the least. if you want to run away with this trying to turn it into another, "Pig American, you think you're so great and your country is so great, " be my guest, but you're barking up the wrong tree, holmes.
