Life / Fr. John Bashobora National stadium Warszawa (Warsaw) [81]

You probably meant to say hypothesis rather than theory. A theory needs to be backed with evidence. There is no evidence for a 'divine creator' but rock solid (literally rock solid) evidence for evolution.

You most certainly can change your gender

Only the external signs - something is inate.

If someone is uhnhappy and uncomfortable with the orientation one was born into, can that be changed

No.

There are treatment opporutnities available

All of them discredited.

No, humanity refers to human beings as a group.

News / American firearms collector squares off with Poland over rare World War II gun [5]

It used to be quite a sensible law back in the day. There wasn't as much going on before in PL as in most places in Europe that have left a built or manufactured heritage and so much of what there was was smashed to bits in the war or carried off by Germans/Russians in turn. So antiques and old buildings are scarce.

That law is an irrelevance now and probably shouldn't be on the statute books due to freedom of movement of goods within the EU. If a government agency tried to enforce it, they'd have to pay out more than the value of any Matejki to lawyers in Strasbourg.

Travel / Just visited Poland - here is my random rant [154]

One big issues service in restaurants. Often, the staff tend to be students rather than professional waiters. They sometimes deliberately avoid catching the customers' eyes. Also they often bring the main course just afte the starter, or bring the starter before the drinks. Or just forget stuff. And after they've served you, they ignore you - a pain when you want to pay the bill and go but can't catch their eye.

History / De-communisation in Poland? [38]

There were some very good people involved in the party. People who wanted the best for society but had to work with what was available.

In other towns, I've been asked extra for a slice of lemon and for milk, although not in Wroc so far

I know a płace in Kielce that charges more if you want sugar in your coffee!

Food / Coffee warning in Poland! [6]

I can't abide Gala or Prima either. Or Tchibo yellow.

Astra from Poznań do some decent ready ground and the very cheapest in many shops, Fort, seems to me to be better than its price suggests.

Makro coffee is also OK.

Food / Polish Duck Soup [117]

The 'bullets' are always delicious and go very well with it. Czernina is a wonderful soup!

UK, Ireland / Western Europe is not Paradise after all (Polish doctors in the UK more popular) [75]

Not for the common cold they don't. It's viral not bacterial.

It sounds like you've had a very unlucky experience. Personally, I've been an inpatient 6 times (in 4 hospitals) and always been impressed at the high standard of care. Worth mentioning that each time was in the north of England.

clandestine euthanasia

Not so clandestine. It's called the Liverpool Care Pathway and although some patients' relatives are very emotional about the end of their loved ones' life and look for fault in the treatment regime, it's important than we have it rather than subject someone to a prolonged death. It is done that was to ensure maximum dignity and minimum distress and pain.

If anything, the older buildings should be preserved. Not covered with plastic weatherboarding or allowed to rot away while the owner lives in a new house next door.

Food / Coffee warning in Poland! [6]

Agreed. Biedronka do very good coffee beans - the quality is excellent for the price, however at the moment I'm regretting buying one of those kilo bags from Lidl. Extremely bitter with an unpleasant aftertaste.

Life / Masculinist movement needed in Poland? [26]

Not especially, and certainly not as bad as the shame and prudery of days gone by which blighted so many lives.

Internet púrn is however a worry and children/teenagers' access to the net should be strictly controlled.

If women have to be taught

They don't. However in conservative societies they are sometimes taught that its somehow wrong. The patriarchy are afraid of female sexuality.

News / Restoring the Port of Elbląg? [113]

Swinjouscie in particular could really benefit from being upgraded to take Baltimax ships now that the S3 is well on the way to completion.

Świnoujście would be a much better bet. Not least because of access to much larger markets.

It's clear that it would involve the destruction of a Natura 2000 area and therefore is a no-go.

Yes. The ecosystem of the lagoon and spit are fragile enough already. I can see any development of the port at Elbląg becoming another Dolina Rospudy.
