USA, Canada / Going back to the Old Country of Poland after more than 25 years! (from USA) [249]

the trip to the airport should be quite quick, but it really depends on your starting point and time of day.

I'll probably be driving from Zabrze. My flight is at 13:45.

It shouldn't be that bad, because Wrocław will get it's bypass fully opened at the end of August

Very cool!

Love / Don't want others to join us at a table - is it normal for Polish girls to get angry? [161]

For you to tell this guy to get lost was wrong because she was the one who asked him to come over, not you.

I disagree! The interloper overstayed his welcome by 90 minutes easy. It was confused's date! This guy was hijacking his night. Confused was well within his rights to ask dude #2 to split....Remember, it's not as if he booted this guy shortly after sitting down. He waited 120 minutes! Jeez. Props to confused for his patience.

Work / Polish student overseas wanting to study in Poland:Which language do I choose to study in? [6]

My background is similar to yours. Polish was my first language while I was a child in the States. Then like you I shunned it for English. Later I went to Poland to study Medicine. In my day there were no English classes so it was all in Polish. At first it was hard but there comes a time when it all becomes very easy. What I'm trying to say is because of your solid Polish language background, it's all encoded in your brain just waiting to come out. That's why I strongly advise you to take your classes in Polish. Would you be able to come, say, 6 months earlier to begin "working-out" those Polish language muscles?.....Don't take the easy way out. You'll probably regret it later.

News / Poland's Organized Crime [58]

what, exactly is mafia?

the number of people is unimportant. What is important is: 1) group of people 2) doing illegal things 3) in a clandestine fashion

News / Famous Pickup Artist in Poland now [75]

From my experience it is always women picking up a man.If a women is not interested (and you can usually tell it quickly) you will only waste the time and/or assets.

You know that's right: just as in the wild the female always picks her mate!

Law / Why are the Poles following the Swiss Franc? [17]

One of the reasons(but far from the main reason) I went into Medicine was because I do not have a head for math and finance. So, please tell me why is the Polish media following the Swiss Franc?

Travel / Whats your favourite Polish city and why? [132]

Wrocław. The rynnek, the bridges, the medical school and its associated clinics and the dzielnica Karłowiceł where I lived for 5 years.

Work / Teaching jobs for Americans in Wroclaw? [54]

As I was feeding my dogs I thought of you Jcarrett. Not so much you but of your GF and her family. How could they be ok with you dropping your studies like that and entering into this vulnerable realtionship in Wroclaw....As a father of two, one of whom is nearing college-age I have to say this (and then I'll shut up for good): Wake up kid! They don't have your best interests at heart. How could they. Just stop and think about what you are being asked to do. From where I sit it stinks. I can't beleive I'm getting upset over this. Anyway, just finish your studies (i'm betting you're not Jewish or Asian). What a waste!....I'm done

Work / Teaching jobs for Americans in Wroclaw? [54]

ive completed two years at eastern michigan university in secondary education-mathematics and physics. I earned high honors and was on the math team where i excelled

Are you kidding? You're halfway there! Why don't you find a way to finish college, get your degree THEN go to Poland? You'll be in a slightly better position IMHO.

Otherwise, you going to get a very harsh lesson in the school of hard knocks, and lose a few years of your life and a whole bunch of self-esteem in the process.

some of us learn our best lessons by attending this school ;) .....Daj mu spokoj! He's idealistic. Let him follow his muse.

News / Andrzej Lepper committed suicide [98]

good or bad, he provided entertainment at times with is inappropriate behaviour

I'm sorry but his behavior was most inappropriate for a politician and it's because of "folksy" characters like he most of the world still considers Polish politics as backwood. manure-slinging affairs. He was an embarrassment his entertainment value notwithstanding.
