News / Poland's Economy Is Booming! The EU's Success Story? [711]

Secondly, you quote the Employment figures but disregard the employment figures.

Unemployement figures are measure and easily available. You don't give any reference

Maybe, but there still isn't a safe way to tap into these reserves. Pollution from fracking and the threat of earthquakes will probably stop any mass extraction within the EU.

for your numbers so there is nothing to debate.

Yes, I notice how the USA has sank between the Pacific and Atlantic due to shale gas extraction.

Poles are against nuclear power....

Of course nobody wants a nuclear power station in their village. But the Polish population are one of the most pro-nuclear in Europe.

Poland doesn't have shale gas production and won't for years to come. the US provided the shale gas predictions, not Poland and even if the biased prediction from producers (who will claim there is less gas to get a better deal) Poland still has 70 years of gas supply.

Poles are not against Nuclear power, more bullshit.

You do talk out of your arse, and WTF has the state of a road in Gdansk have to do with this??

Unemployment unchanged at 9.9%: Eurostat

Unemployment in Poland remained unchanged at 9.9% in April, after a revision of the March figure to 9.9% from 10.1%, according to Eurostat, the EU's statistics office.

Poland's own unemployment reading in April, based on registrations rather than a labor force survey, was 12.9%, Poland's statistics office has said.

Poland GDP: keeping out of trouble

Poland's economy continues to outperform most of the rest of the EU, although there are some signs that the eurozone crisis is starting to have some impact.

Data released on Thursday show that the country's GDP grew by an annual 3.5 per cent in the first quarter. The result was broadly in line with analysts' expectations, and down from the the final quarter of 2011, when the economy was growing at an annual pace of 4.3 per cent.

The main factors driving the economy were internal demand, accounting for 2.8 percentage points of growth, investments, accounting for 0.8 percentage points, and exports, responsible for 0.7 percentage points, said Poland's statistical agency.

lol, this line of logic is false.
Minimum wage is 4 times higher in Ireland, the dole(with rent allowance) is 12000 euro a year,in Poland the average industrial wage is 7500euro.. you cant compare whales with oranges.

You don't understand the concept of growth/change/recession, do you? Ever looked at a clock and tried to understand it?

also, since when do hormones = better meat?

Did the ban on US beef imports get lifted as the US has no banned hormones (20 years after the EU) due to health fears?

it's not even worth commenting, dude. more weg-ish anti american nonsense.

Its no different to you complaints that if it isn't exactly like the USA, then it must be ****

Life / A new Poland's war - the poor vs the rich [81]

She didnt mention geo thermal or wind power or even tidal power, she said ground energy.... and here we have you talking about a bloody heat pump.

Get into the picture weg - its Geo Thermal energy, not ground energy or a bloody heat pump.

You never miss the opportunity to prove how utterly clue less you are, do you? Ground energy uses a heat pump to extract heat from the ground or water (eg.a lake). Its not from geothermal sources. As such it can require you only dig a few meters down. It becomes more viable if you have a well, already dug (hello Poland), which can be utilized. It can be used for heating and cooling - a very common scenario in the southern states of the US.

Geothermal can require you to go down much further, 300 to 3000 meter. Poland has a lot of geothermal potential because usable sources of heat are quite near the surface. For example a town near me (Slomniki) has a 314meter bore hole which gives 300kw for a 60kw use of electricity which is used fro schools, government buildings and homes. The water comes up at 17C and a heat exchanger extracts the energy. Poland has 280MW of geothermal energy production at the moment.

omg, i brought my wife's family to a steakhouse last year when they came to visit us in the USA....they literally couldn't even speak when the meal came out.....they just ate till it was gone. poles don't know what good steak is......oh, but i forgot, if Poles wanted it, they'd have it, right weg?

Maybe Poles would like steak, I never mentioned, they probably couldn't afford it. We we talking about sandwiches, so how is a steakhouse relevant and how does that prove your point??

I suppose having one good thing in the US must make you happy, everything else about the country and the food is utter shite.

Life / Which services is Poland still waiting for? [218]

because again, it's a "full meal". it's just not as convenient.

You would be the only customer. Nobody wants a sandwich for lunch, they don't want Macdonald's either as it over priced crap.

You may as well start moaning about the unavailability of Milk bars in USA, is US going to get communist food services at communist prices? I doubt it,

poles love fast food. now, just give them classic polish sandwiches they've been eating for decades......but fast.

If they wanted it, it would be available. if there was a demand for it there would be Subways, Pret-a-Porter or whatever everywhere. Instead, Poles buy KFC by the tone, Galleria Cracovia, has two because its so popular.

Amrest, the franchise holder for CEE, changed the burger places (Burger king or McShits forget which) into KFC when they took them over becuase they know what Poles want. Not sandwiches or beefburgers ... Chicken.

Anyone can make a sandwich at home. its cold, its boring and its not special.

But in Warsaw so cannot speak to Wroclaw's sandwich situation. Here there are sandwiches everywhere. Yeah most are premade but its not like what you want doesn't exist in any form. And here there are several Subways as well.

Warsaw is different.

As for sandwich shops/bars - I have recently seen 2 shops offering take-away home-made pierogis, golabki and other delicacies which you can buy to cook at home.

Err, just like any other food you can cook at home???

My parents-in-law have a mobile shop that visits their village. Very old idea, quite common in the UK as well.

News / Poland's Economy Is Booming! The EU's Success Story? [711]

You are ignoring the effect of the economic crash, which you seem to perfectly aware of when it comes to the price of houses.

Then again you don't seem to be able to calculate the effect of multiple year falls or rises in GDP and wages. Just as house prices aren't going to fall 50% in a year but may well do so in five years, a small fall in GDP very year for a several years running has a big compound effect. China is a prime example of a rising economy which has over take the Uk in a period of decades. A few percent per year soon makes a massive difference.

And Poland is ****** is it? really? tell that to the companies who are moving here. Everything in Poland economic numbers is positive comapaired to the rest of the EU-27.

The UK, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal, France and the rest are ******. Poland, less so. Can you give any worse financial situation than whats facing most of Western Europe? I can't.

I'd even say the collapse of the Euro would benefit Poland in the long term as Germany would have to offshore production to low cost area if it got he DM back, if it setup the New Euro, Poland would obviously be a founder member if it choose - a win-win.

would he have said that to her in a face to face discussion at a table sharing lunch out in Public?

Agreed, if you insult someone face to face it would be the end of the discussion.

News / Poland's Economy Is Booming! The EU's Success Story? [711]

My point is, Poland as it stands now for the average worker is a lot sh1ttier.

And 20 years ago it was 100 times ****tier. The question how is it going to be in ten years time.

One crucial issue you fail to take into account is that Oil prices have risen 300% in than decade. If Poland currency had not risen and wages with it Poles would have been a hell of a lot worse off than they are now.

The Western World is in the worse economic depression in modern history (maybe the various plagues were worse?). Poland is doing relatively well and recovering from 50 years of communist economic calamity.

Feel free to dwell on how **** life was under communism and how it will never get better. But it will, something you can't be certain about the UK and Ireland.

Take out sandwich shops.

Good point, but they have Milk Bars. Why get a sandwich when a full meal is the same price. And they do take away ,

and standard of life for the average Poland?? above, maybe Romania, Bulgaria,,,,,,,,?

And your point is? The world is changing fast.
Until this year Poles have been getting richer, faster than any western country. Countries like UK and Ireland are now getting poorer faster that Poland.

Poles are getting poorer

1st June 2012

Poles are becoming poorer, reported Rzeczpospolita. Their incomes are rising slower than prices and an increasing number of people are living in poverty.

Last year, for the first time in six years, incomes did not grow as fast as prices did, according to recent data published by the Central Statistical Office.

A Pole's average disposable income in 2011 amounted to zł.1,227 per month – 1.4 percent lower than during the previous year, when adjusted for inflation.

Moreover, for the first time, after six years of improvement, the number of people living below the “absolute poverty” line has risen to 6.7 percent of the population.

“Up until this moment, our society has been growing richer and the number of people living in poverty has been reducing. The latest data show that process has been halted,” said an economist from the Warsaw School of Economics.

Nope, unlike the Wilds of the North, in Poland we have washing machines.

Never been an issue when I eat out. You kidding yourself that its 'free' of course.

In the US they are discussing banning ultra large containers of pop bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18271120

Bullshit, of course. In Europe its normal to but a 1.5 -2Liter bottle of 'soda'. Its cold and in a bottle with a cap on it, but there is nothing stopping you drinking it all in a day. More practical than a bucket but no less sugar.

Thats what working for a big company will, give you. Plus a few other expat benefits..

Most people I knew earned around the same, or even more. But London is full of people earning a lot less than £25K a year.

The people I know working in London are earning £65-100K. Which is why anecdotal evidence is worthless.

Nobody thinks Poland operated death camps, so why make a meal out of it? There are more important things in the world to worry about.

Not true. My friend who is highly educated and married to a American (who is, I think, the source of his bias) thinks Poland was responsible for the extermination of Jews. The fact that it happened in Poland makes Poles guilty by association.

Thirdly: i dont take kindly to words such as "1 warning" with no explenation.

Before abusing the Moderator on his typing skills, remember to use a spell checker.

The previous mod was right about you, you are nasty little bully. You use personal abuse to overcome your lack of intellectual capacity, its not impressive in the slightest.

Ground energy! WTF is ground energy? you mean geo thermal LOL.

Look up Heat Pump, here let me help you with a link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_pump

I find it easy to adjust to the US system of tipping, different people you tip differently. For instance do you your hair dresser? I do, because its **** job. Of course you don't have to tip at all, as Zukerberg demonstrated, and its bull**** that tipping improves service because you tip afterwards.

The re-fill thing is way over rated. In diners the coffee is invariably **** water and how many cups of coffee can you drink - with me its one so why should I care about it?

Warsaw - 90 PLN (£18)

London £112.20

There is a difference, isn`t there? :):):):)

The worlds most expensive transport system, what do you expect? Average wage in London is about £50K. 275K pln, which compensates somewhat.

Are there any shoe repairmen in the UK? :):):):)

I still can see some in Poland, one even opened in my area recently.

At least 5x more expensive in London than Krakow.
