Food / Kopi Luwak! Is it worth buying? [13]

Quite a long way to go to buy coffee - I prefer to pop to Biedronka for some ordinary stuff. If you're on holiday there or meet regularly with people who travel from there (as I sometimes do) it's worth trying to get some. In general, never buy coffee online unless you eithe trust the supplier or can tell the difference.

Cambodian coffee too is extremely high quality - though it hasn't been through a cat. Hopefully.

It isn't horrible - in Indonesia coffee is excellent and they know the good from the bad.

he fake stuff often costs more than the real stuff, because thats its appeal -snob value.

Quite - buy it whenm you're either in-country or from someone you trust (and don't trust those Warsaw coffee places who sell it all from large jars). The same goes for other premium coffees.

Study / My experience in Poland (Poznan) as a student who recently moved from Syria [117]

Frédéric Chopin warsaw's airport is really cool and well organized ,but they searched me like a terrorist :P ,one of the guards wanted to get intimate by the way he searched me :P they also asked me to remove my shoes and scanned my shoes ,I

They've got a lot stricter over the past few months.

I found it funny how pedestrians stop at traffic light even if there are no cars at sight (comparing my country where people cross roads and pass between cars regardless the traffic light )

There's a fine if the police see you crossing the road - same in Germany.

Great you like it - Poznan's a nice city.

UK, Ireland / Daniel Pelka murder: Polish mother and stepfather face life sentences [96]

The social services of this country are overworked and under-resourced

Very true.

some of that is to do with mass immigration

No. It is to do with gross under-funding. It's also to do with people who regard them as being part of some sort of so-called 'nanny state', with a media outcry when they actually do their job.

I've had it and it's nice as a novelty, having passed through the body of a cat. The high price is because of the cat thing and isn't worth trying more than once. If I lived in the part of the world that it comes from, maybe it would be worth buying regularly however there are far nicer coffees.

Better to save up and buy Blue Mountain.

That's one of the daftest things you've said here. Sad too, since a child died. Interesting you've completely changed your tune though, and were recently heavily criticising the child protection services for removing a child from its abusive parents. I wonder if the nationality involved has something to do with it...

Sad.

Seems to me the state and social services didn't play any role at all in protecting the child in this case.

Because in very large part they've got hardly any money, not enough staff and surprisingly few legal powers. Plus extreme hostility from the media when they actually do something.

Not that it matters now

If it saves even one kid in the future, something will have been achieved. Not that I'm convinced it will have any effect.

Read carefully. It isn't about people's prejudices, it's about protecting the vulnerable. There's quite a history on here of people criticising social services when they intervene - indeed some have said here that the family always knows best and the state shouldn't play any role at all.

CPS

The Crown Prosecution Service? They did rather well - they got the perp put away for life, after all.

Edit
Do you mean child protection services? In that case, their role is very restricted due to laws passed by politicians who thing that 'freedom' and 'the family' are more important than the community's right to intervene.

Anyway, Grubas, I seem to remember you praising that turd Rutkowski for abducting a child who was in the care of social services due to abusive parents. You can't have it both ways, and a middle way costs far, far more than people are prepared to cough up without complaining andr voting for political parties who hate public spending.

Life / Why foreigners in Poland do not respect Poland's culture and traditions? [68]

Maybe leniency and hospitality Poles extend to foreigners

I'm not sure what you're trying to say about 'leniency', however you forget that most people who live in Poland and are born abroad are long-term settlers, not visitors or guests.

Now we have the EU, people can and do settle anywhere Poles are no exception to this (a million in the UK) and nor is Poland.

Travel / Cost of taxi from Modlin airport to Warsaw old town? [21]

Have a look at the online railway timetable (google PKP). The long waits are only if your flight time and the train time don't coincide. You might be lucky, and the buses from the airport to the station fit the flight arrival times.

Travel / Cost of taxi from Modlin airport to Warsaw old town? [21]

I think buses and trains from Modlin would be too much of a pain, especially for evening arrivals.

The train ought to be great but isn't - you can find yourself sitting on it for 40 mins before it leaves Modlin Station. There's a fast bus though that goes to Metro Mlociny and is quite quick.

If you get the bus, make sure you have some small change, since they aren't very good at carrying a float. I actually heard the girl who was collecting some fares tell passengers to get some coins from the bank machine! Go figure.

Food / How to cook Frozen pierogi? Boil or Fry? [90]

I thaw them in the microwave, but only just until they have lost the last bit of freezing. Then toss them into the pre-heated frying pan with some olive oil.

That works. The secret frying them is to do it slo, slow, slow.

News / Premier says no recession for Poland [148]

A master debater you are not, but you are something that rhymes with it.

That one's worth saving for future use ;-)

Work / Living off 5500zl in Krakow? (accounting job) [9]

The average for Kraków is (according to the internet, which varies from website to website) is about 3200 net and the median is about 4200.

You'll be better off than most 23 year olds, you'll earn enough to have plenty of fun, but don't count on saving much of it. Though some do - it just depends how you like to spend your free time.
