Kopi Luwak! Is it worth buying?

Have you heard about Kopi Luwak? I never heard about it until recently. My friend and I have decided to save our pocket money and order this coffee soon. If you know anything about this coffee that you want to share then you're most welcome. I'm very eager to know if this Kopi Luwak is worth buying?

I've had it and it's nice as a novelty, having passed through the body of a cat. The high price is because of the cat thing and isn't worth trying more than once. If I lived in the part of the world that it comes from, maybe it would be worth buying regularly however there are far nicer coffees.

Better to save up and buy Blue Mountain.

This is one of the most highly faked products as 50 Times as much is sold as produced. The fake stuff often costs more than the real stuff, because thats its appeal -snob value.

Its also considered to be horrible, if you find the genuine thing . The fake coffee will taste better, not having be been through a civet.

It isn't horrible - in Indonesia coffee is excellent and they know the good from the bad.


Quite - buy it whenm you're either in-country or from someone you trust (and don't trust those Warsaw coffee places who sell it all from large jars). The same goes for other premium coffees.

Yeah, fly to Indonesia and buy it there. Do NOT buy it on the internet.

Quite a long way to go to buy coffee - I prefer to pop to Biedronka for some ordinary stuff. If you're on holiday there or meet regularly with people who travel from there (as I sometimes do) it's worth trying to get some. In general, never buy coffee online unless you eithe trust the supplier or can tell the difference.

Cambodian coffee too is extremely high quality - though it hasn't been through a cat. Hopefully.

My mother's cat will eat pretty much anything he can get down his throat at least one try out of three. Give me some of that Cambodian coffee and I'll get him working on it.

If you want to try it, the old lady next door's got at least 16 cats. I can catch one, force feed it with coffee (Mellow Birds granule would be easiest) and send you what comes out. Easier than flying to Bali.

I have to agree with Jon357; it's mostly a novelty.
The coffee was nice, but i fail to see why it's all that special in terms of taste.
