Language / Too many English words in the Polish language! [709]

Genealogy / Mixed-Blood Poles in America (Do we count?) [118]

Don't worry about it. Former Polish president Aleksander Kwasniewski was in New York some years back and was greeted by a African-American/Polish mix girl in a Krakowianka outfit he was most shocked when she started speaking Polish to him. True story.

UK, Ireland / The number of Anti-English Poles... [228]

Wrong, I hate being hot, it makes me irritable and bad tempered.

hottest day of the year so far

hottest here in Scotland

Aloe vera aftersun, David. It helped me out and I'm milk skinned.

I see Brits don't like the hot just like Poles. I hate it when it get's hot and humid especially here in the States it feels like you're suffocating. That's not summer, summer is supposed to be enjoyable.

News / Wal-Mart coming to Poland? [146]

Yea they get a 10 year tax break, after that time if they don't get it for another 10 years they pack their stuff and leave. Poles should just be happy they're hiring them. Meanwhile they're stealing and cheating at every corner.

News / Wal-Mart coming to Poland? [146]

It's like Dell when it moved it's main European factory from Ireland to Poland. The Polish government gave them the land for free, it even paid for building the factories and doesn't have to pax any taxes!!! all they do is/will employ 2,000 Poles and pay them little more than minimum wage. Meanwhile, they're selling their computers to the whole European if not world market making billions. F'in thieves! Poland needs that tax money.

Even crappy jobs are better than no jobs.

Only way to work there and not be struggling is to work overtime or two shifts all the time. That basically means you have no social life, and live in the store. If the government doesn't do anything only keeps selling-privatizing Polish companies to foreign buyers it should at least help young Polish entrepreneurs to start their own companies. I know there are tons of educated people who just need a boost.

Yeah, all these minimum wage jobs.Meanwhile all the profit is being transferred out of Poland. Not to mention that they don't pay any taxes in Poland.

That's true I'd doubt they'll pay more Wal-Mart pays almost nothing in the States so Poland wont get no better treatment. They should at least pay taxes, I mean there are tons of hypermarkets in Poland already it's not like Wal-Mart is bringing anything new to the country and should get a tax break.

News / Wal-Mart coming to Poland? [146]

Some American chains look good like Starbucks, Wal-Mart on the other hand does not it's products look cheap. There are much better American warehouse stores than that.

No there are some Poles here but not that many. It doesn't really have anything to do how many Poles live in your area but the total population of the are, how much more others there are. I was in northern New Jersey a few months back and in one day saw two separate Polish men with black girls!! I have never seen that here in PA and there are much fewer Poles here. Most Poles date other Poles/Slavs or white Americans whichever background they may be.

Aldi has failed miserably on the bases that you cant sell German food to Poles

why not suspicion? ;) Isn't that not fair since supposedly Germans when buying vegetables ask if Poles picked them.

Does this mean that soon Polish people will soon start to look like this?

Let's just hope Poles stick to home cooking.

Yes, Target is also economical, but things look nicer.

Yes like Lowe's over the Home Depot ;)
Is there anything in Poland these days on the lines of a Sam's Club or BJ's ? Gigantic members-only warehouse stores with everything super sized.

News / Wal-Mart coming to Poland? [146]

Germans found the "American shopping experience" very awkward... employees who wished a good day or packed the bought products just smelled like fake friendliness and cheap labor to them.

LOL Germans are used to higher quality products. No offense to Walmart but I only shopped there twice in my life, their products simply look terribly cheap (made in China). Target stores would be much better for Poland.

News / Wal-Mart coming to Poland? [146]

they got their money in it PB.

If 51% of their shares are still American owned technically it's still an American company. BTW half the products sold by American companies are 'Made in China'.

After the desaster in Germany they would probably fail in Poland too.

What happened in Germany?

News / Wal-Mart coming to Poland? [146]

The German Metro Group, which owns the Real supermarket chain, is rumoured to sell off its assets in Poland, with a possible bid rumoured to come from American shopping giants Wal-Mart.

Currently Wal-Mart owns 4,500 stores in fifteen countries worldwide, although have yet to reach out to Poland. Metro now plans to sell 54 Real supermarkets in Poland, 19 of which are part of the Geant chain which the German company bought out in 2006.

Polonia / Löcknitz: Polish Lifeline for an Ailing German Town [3]

Actually Poles settled for centuries in Germany, and German settled for centuries in Poland.

Germans in Poland since the 12th century. Polish entrepreneurs opening businesses in Germany to get the "Made in Germany" label on their products, at the same time employing Germans works out both ways.

Work / Advice on Teaching in Silesia [23]

Krasnik

Lublin area.

Grandpa's family is from there. Green, hilly region but very poor. Probably that's why they pay less and since there are few jobs English isn't needed.

Supposedly everyone takes English in school but apart from people with master's and doctor's degrees hardly any of the Poles abroad speak good English.

Polonia / Löcknitz: Polish Lifeline for an Ailing German Town [3]

It is boom time in Löcknitz, a small town in one of the poorest regions of eastern Germany. The many houses that fell empty after German reunification in 1990 when the young and educated from what had been Communist East Germany moved out have found new owners. The kindergartens are full. New schools are being built. Placards hanging on streetlights have big, bold print that is hard to miss: Property Wanted!

The reason for this boom is the Poles.

In a surprising twist of the Polish-German relationship, which for centuries had been dominated by war, conquest and ethnic cleansing, some Poles have now come to settle among their less-well-off German neighbors.

Lothar Meistring, the town's mayor, said nearly a fifth of new births each year are to Poles, who already make up 13 percent of the town's 3,200 inhabitants.

UK, Ireland / The number of Anti-English Poles... [228]

Has anyone noticed the large number of anti-English Polish guys in the UK? I had come across a few down South that stated that they hated England and English people.

I think you're either trying to stir up hatred or you've met a few idiots that were bitter about actually having to work in England, thinking they'd just throw Pounds at them at the airport. Most of my friends from back in Poland are in Ireland or England not one said anything negative about the people.

Poles and English, something that should bring those two fine peoples closer together

Buckfast

Law / Honda civic 2009: Adjustments to fit Poland's rules? [3]

any one knows what a Honda Civic 2009 Sedan LHD will need adjustment to fit Poland rules?

Your rear lights got a visible yellow in them or is it just white and red with yellow only when blinking? From what I remember that's a must in Poland, my uncle brought a car over and had trouble finding them for his type of car.
