USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

The only thing Americans have on us is steak.

And ONLY if it's WELL done but they rarely eat it well done and to me it feels like blood flavored chewing gum.Simply NOT edible.

oh I surely have. i honestly don't know how you can call most polish salads actual salads. a blob of mayo, cream, hard boiled eggs, smietana, or whatever else you put in it does not become a salad just because you threw some corn and onion and shredded cabbage or beets into it. it's still a bowl of lard with random pieces of veggies.

What are you talking about?See in Poland we have sałatki(salads) and surówki.I will give you $100 if you find ANY lard in surówka z marchwi i jabłek or in surówka z buraków.To some of surówki we add a BIT of mayo or cream e.g surówka z selera or mizeria but to call them full of lard is simply ridiculous.BTW, Polish potato salad beats American one hands down.

I don't understand this fascination with Mexican food.Let's be honest this very poor people's food.I would take schabowy with potatos (not to mention polędwica ze śliwkami) over nachos, burritos or some other Mexican trash at any time. And when it comes to soups they got NOTHING on us.Simple kapuśniak with fresh Polish bread beats everything they can come up with.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

So who is buying all the apartments that have flown up all over the place? Who if not Poles? I certainly haven't seen hoards of foreigners here.

Foraigners should never be allowed to buy any properties in Poland because they put too much pressure on prices. In 2001 I bought 2 small 40 sq m flats in "communist" blocks but in good locations.1 in Poznan for 61k PLN and 1 in £ódź for 55k PLN.Paid cash for both. Both are rented and I already got my money back.I would love to buy more of them at these prices but because of the God damn foraigners they are like 3 times more expensive now.Screw you foraigners!

Language / How do Poles feel about foreigners learning their language? [105]

Poles will be lost in admiration when someone struggle to communicate in the harder way ;)

More like amused than lost in admiration.I am yet to experience chatting in Polish with a foraigner but I think it must be super funny because foraigners trying to speak Polish sound like children and they make a lot of funny mistakes.

News / Military power (Poland #21 in the world) [97]

My wife (mid-30's) and her classmates had to fire two rounds from an AK when she was at school, where there was a firing range. It was something every schoolkid had to do in those days.

She did not.Not from kbk ak,now if you say kbks then I believe you.

History / Sabaton 40-1. Poland WW2 (updated with: Uprising) [39]

And a lot to do with some (famous at the time) newsreel footage of a Polish cavalry charge.

I was not aware of any Polish cavalry charge newsreel footage, can you tell more about it ?Are you sure you are not talking about German propaganda movie Kampfgeschwader Lutzow from 1941?Lots of captured Polish equipment and Slovakian cavalry unit took part in this movie.

There really should be a sticky thread with this in........

I don't see what's wrong with using cavalry?Anybody a little bit familiar with military history knows that cavalry units in 1939 existed in every army.

Language / Is fluency in Polish for an English speaker possible?! [30]

On top of these problems, I cannot roll my "r"s the way Polish speakers can. When I hear a someone trill an "r," I instantly become jealous--because I can't do it.

I am Polish and I can't do it either but I am not jelous,it must sound strange to some Polish when I say rower.BTW out of topic but interesting thing is that the bicycle is called rower in Poland because at first majority of bicycles imprted to Poland was Rover brand.

Language / chodźmy vs idźmy? [32]

However, it seems like many Poles use idziemy! as imperative?

I don't know what's imperative man but I can give you an example when idziemy means chodźmy.
Say, me and my bro are about to go to the club.I am ready and waiting for him while he is dressing up.I am not a very patient person so after 10 minutes of waiting I am getting p i s s e d.What would i say?I would say Ty, no dawaj kurwa idziemy!

On the other hand in the same situation as I described but with my wife I would say No chodźmy wreszcie!

No idźmy już... Idźmy wreszcie! It may sound more impatient than the regular "chodźmy".

Yeah but you are getting more impatient efect only by adding wreszcie

First of all it is "chodźmy v idziemy"chodźmy - lets goidziemy - you and I are going

Not really dude. You can say idziemy! in a chodźmy meaning.

USA, Canada / US citizenship via US Army [50]

Again you're giving false information. A green card is not green. Get the facts first before posting.

Mine looks like this one.Green enough? Though I have to admit that my old conditional one looked like the one you posted.Interesting.I wonder if USCIS changed the look of PRC or what it depends on?

USA, Canada / US citizenship via US Army [50]

You have to have a green card (the card is not really green, btw, it's more of a pinkish color...)

Have you actually ever seen one?It is green. As for the fast track to citizenship thru US army I don't think that would be a motivation for any green card (I like Permanent Resident Card better) holder to join.As Fuzz already said once permanent resident it is only a matter of time and willingness to become US citizen unless you do something really stupid.

Pójdźmy wszyscy do stajenki...Grubas, have mercy. It's confusing enough as it is.

do Jezusa i panienki.
I am giving him options.How is it confusing,pretty simple,basics I would say.

Why should "idźmy" sound weird to you?

I don't know it just doesn't sound natural.
