The article says that the Norwegian murderer admired him:

In his manifesto the Norwegian mentioned events from Polish history 47 times.
He admires Polish king Jan III Sobieski, whose victory over Muslims in Wienna in 1683 was a military threat to them for the last time in history.

It is Church propagands again, to attract people to Churchs more, just as rightiests like..

Sobieski didn't fight against Muslims at Wienna war during the end of 1600s. He fought against Turks. Ottomans till 1600s had also made many wars against Muslims, Arab lands.. Starting 1600s, it was Ottoman's recession, that took 100 years. It was during their weak times of Ottomans that they were defeated in Vienna and in other wars.

So, while Ottomans done more wars with muslims/Arabs than Europeans, saying Europeans fought against Muslims show an illiteracy.

Sobieski was one of greatest Sarmats Draconists, pride of our kind

His majesty Jan Sobieski accepted Serbian call and served as Grand Master of the Dragon Order- taking it under protection of His crown. Europe and Slavic world owe great debt to the immortal King Sobieski

Definitely, Sobieski is one of the reasons why Serbs respect and love Poles

Sobieski didn't fight against Muslims at Wienna war during the end of 1600s.

i would rather say that Sobieski defended Slavic world and Europe from the Muslim invasion. Penetration of Islam onto Slavic Balkan (particularly onto the lands of Racowie/Serbians) directly attacked interests of Poland.

He fought against Turks.

Yes - the same Turks who were always an honourable enemy (if they signed a cease fire, they kept to it)
and who never acknowledged the partitions of Poland ("Has the envoy from Lechistan arrived yet?" - we
remember that), and helped many Poles in hard times (Adampol/Polonezkoy).

We should have allied ourselves to Ottomans, finish off Austria and then take out Russia together.
There would be no partitions of Poland then, and no 123 years of slavery. If good king Sobieski knew
how Austrians would repay Poland, he wouldn't turn husaria against them.

If Sobieski allied itself with Turks modern day Poland wouldn't exist, at least not as Slavic.

As if Slavs/Serbs lost their identity. Crow, you Serbs don't speak even a single Turkic word. Ask Greeks and Arabs too, they don't, either.

I am not fan of monarchy at all, but, give credit to Ottomans who hadn't assimilated any folks, but, themselves.. Turkey today is the most multicultural country in the world, contrary to known.

of course. When Turks invaded Balkan they were on the level of wild hordes. Their conquest on Balkan and Europe in general civilized them a little bit.

Let's focus on the vodka he inspired and not right wing extremists. We admire people for weird and wonderful reasons. Best just look at what he did for Poland and leave it at that.

Please please please, don't let Bruce Willis go into an acting role, playing Sobieski. Mel Gibson as the lead actor in Braveheart for us Celts was bad enough. Don't let the Slavs slide into that trap. Willis, I hope you enjoyed your advertising as that's as far is it will go.

Isn't Mel Gibson of Irish descent, Celtic? so what's the problem because he's a Yank?

Upcoming film? Thankfully not!

Mel Gibson is Australian with American connections, Penn.

Sobieski would have to be played by a worthy candidate.

Keep the Peeskills out of it ;0 :)

He's still Australian :) :)

Now, Sobieski :) :) Why do people feel the need to blight history?

Serbian folk :) :) Who's the Serbian equivalent of Sobieski, Crow?

Sobieski's good name should not be trampled on by extremists. His actions should be seen in their right time and context.

Has Polish king Sobieski become an idol of right wing extremists?

Man, those misguided and misinformed fools will make *anyone* or *anything* their idol when they think it serves their purpose. I guess that's what people who have an inferiority complex do, they idealise or romanticise someone else, and place that image of non-existent perfection above themselves.

:)

If God exists, and if I would stand before him/her/it, then I'd probably say: Yo buddy, 'sup? On my knees? **** you! I didn't make myself and I *certainly* never asked for it! So idolising and worshipping? Not for me, sorry.

;P

I do worship my girl though. Does that make me a hypocrite?

There is a far-Right organization in America which calls itself "The Gates of Vienna" and the Norwegian mass murderer titled his manifesto "2083" evidently in referrence to the next centennial anniversary of King Jan's victory over the Turks, in 1683, before those very gates. Henryk Senkiewicz himself is not innocent of using the Polish hero as a mouthpiece for Islamophobia, when in Pan Wolodyowski he has the future king reject the Tartar villian's proposal to settle masses of Tartars in Poland's steppe boarderlands as a bulwark to defend Poland, because giving these masses of Muslim Tartar Polish citizenship would be introducing too much of an alien element into the Christian nation of Poland. I suspect that Sienkiewicz, being well aware of his own Tartar ancestors, was trying to show how definite their conversion to Christianity had been, and how much of a true believer he was himself. I wonder if this proposal had actually been real, and if it had been followed if new masses of Polish Tartars would've helped to save Poland, or if Torq's proposal in post #4 of an Polish-Ottoman alliance would've worked as well. We can never know, but in any event the fact that the Austria betrayed Poland by taking away Poland's sovereignty, when King Jan Sobieski of Poland had saved Austria's Sovereignty only a few decades before, will always make the far-Right propaganda value of the Battle of Vienna's "saving of Christendom" somewhat suspect, because who really needs Islamophobia when "Christian" nations treat one another atrociously anyway.
