USA, Canada / Not everyone that lives or comes from America is RICH! [300]

6 & VD is a bad area, not the worst however.

I used to work right by there.

Detroit is getting better slowly. It's going to take at least another 2-3 years.

There is no where in Poland that is as bad as inner city Detroit.

However, there is no place as nice as where I live that I have seen.

Life / Driving test, English speaking driving school in Warsaw? [95]

Where can I get a copy of the test prep in English?

I was told that since I already have a drivers license all I have to do is take the test.

Where does one take the test and what is the cost?

Travel / My (short) Poland experiences - bad luck? [142]

I never found this to be true. I found people to be warm, friendly and helpful.

They say what you see is often a reflection of self.

Language / I NEED TO LEARN POLISH QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY! [45]

I know many people like rosetta stone. You can find a bit torrent of it for free.

You can down load byki for free at their website byki.com.

Get a good phrase book.

Its not an easy language. I have been working on it for almost 3 years and it's just now starting to make sense.

The easy thing about Polish is that the pronunciation is much more consistant then English.

USA, Canada / Michigan Polish markets and places? [20]

I go to Michigan for the lakes only. I take all my stuff (food) from Chicago though as I don't count on finding Polish stores there

There are many Polish stores.

Food / No Vernor's ginger ale in Poland? [29]

Rootbeer used to be made with sassafras. They found it had a chemical that could cause cancer. They came up with a formula that has wintergreen. That's why it can taste like toothpaste.

Food / No Vernor's ginger ale in Poland? [29]

To be honest its a regional thing. Its not even as good as it used to be. Old Vernors used to make you sneeze it was so strong. Ahhhh! Those were the days!

USA, Canada / A Canadian citizen overstayed Visa in Poland [35]

I am in your corner after having a similar thing happen. The law is the law and they don't see a gray area.

However, I think you will just have to serve your time.

Classifieds / English speaking AA meetings in Wroclaw? [23]

Unless someone offers me a job I will not be coming back. It has gotten to difficult for schools to hire non-EU.

Like we say in NA, alcohol is a drug. :-)

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

There wern't that many non EU teachers coming before. It's too bad the whole system is such a cluster f**k!

If I wanted to go to asia they would even fly me there.

I know I am not entitled to anything but why do they make it so difficult.

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

I will not go back to Poland without a job or papers. I don't plan on being asked to leave again. Is it more difficult, yes. Is it impossible, no. There are well over 2000 schools in Poland that teach English.

I have experience, CELTA and a degree.

USA, Canada / A Canadian citizen overstayed Visa in Poland [35]

Why didn't you put in for a student visa?

I also overstayed and got a ban for a year. Just serve your time and go back.

Its not worth fighting because by the time you do it will be time to go back.

History / Warsaw Uprising - The Forgotten Soldiers [117]

I am sure that some helped and some didn't. I have read many books on the ghettos and learned that many Poles helped children escape. Probably, much has been hidden.

Work / International House - Kracow school - any chances of being offered a job there [59]

There is a certain degree of demand for non-EU speakers. Not much, given the hassle involved, but some schools are willing to bother.

I don't think there is all that much more they have to do. They have to send you an offer of work so you can get work papers.

Once you are in country all they have to do is give proof of income and another thing or 2.

It's really not that much extra work.

The non-EU person has to do all the work. I have a binder full of papers they asked for.
