Work / Why Poland employers are afraid of hiring any foreign nationals? [171]

but the life span of so many of the restaurants that open up in sopot is a summer season, two if they are lucky, before closing...

That's too bad....I know here in US, most new restaurants are in the red for a while before they start making money....I think if your friend has patience and is persistent, as hairball said, then the potential for a successful restaurant is there....

News / Are Poles good enough for USA (to go there without a visa)? [288]

Hmmmm, something tells me someones Visa request was rejected......I have no idea why???? The US loves having people come here who "HATE" it! :D (BTW, it's 30%)

don't speak about fu$#% illegal polish immigrants since we can (and we do) work in Sweden, Norway or Denmark we don't have to fly thousands kms for much, much less!

Then why are you b*tching?

One would think that with the experiences they've had in the UK, those attitudes, abilities and ideas would have to change......now whether or not it's for better or worse, I could not tell you, as I am not a Pole experiencing life in the UK.

Montana.....(I didn't need a Visa!!).....

Montana is beautiful.....fortunately for you, you are a citizen of a country that has the waiver.

I don't think the reason Poland is not getting the waiver is based on the assumption that there would be an influx of immigrants.....it's because so many nonimmigrants who were allowed to come over in good faith that they would returned to Poland, ended up overstaying their visas.

We already have a HUGE problem with illegal immigrants from Mexico (they make up 40% of all illegals in the US). I believe Poland has the 2nd highest rate at 10%. Big difference, I know, but illegal aliens are draining what is already a declining economy in the US.

As I said before, I personally have no problem giving the waiver to Poland (there is such a large populace of legal immigrants that still have family in Poland, and I think it's awful that they have such a hard time being able to see relatives) but again, if we do it for Poland, then who's next?

I think Poles in the mother country need to encourage the one's who get visa's to abide by the laws, so others can also have a chance.

But it would seem not as close as The Czech Republic and Hungary!

It seems as though these two countries have followed the rules and therefore, they qualify for the waiver.

Unfortunately, a few Polish citizens have ruined it for the masses.

Because they see Hollywood's version of America on TV and they would like to come and see that grass on the other side of the fence that looks SOOOOOOOOOO GREEEEEN!

Well YOU know better, HB, so why don't you just send out mailers to the Polish population to educate them how awful the US really is!

Tell me something, Hairball, what would you have the US do? Why should US bend their own rules? What it comes down to, if we do it for one nation, then we have to do it for others.....I believe eventually, Poland will have a waiver, but it's going to take sometime.

Visa Waiver Program - How a Country Qualifies

How does a country qualify to participate in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP)?

In order to be designated to participate in the Visa Waiver Program, countries must meet certain legislatively established criteria, as set forth in the Immigration and Nationality Act (U.S.C. 1187), the Border Security Act, and the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform Act (EBSVERA).

travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1255.html

There are rules and too many Poles break them. Simple.

I think Greg hit the nail on the head......Poland is not the only country to not qualify for the VWP.....how many countries are there in the world? 27 out of approximately 200 countries qualify for the VWP (that's only about 7% of the world's counties).....Poland is hardly being singled out.

That being said, I personally would love for Poland to have the Visa Waiver, but unfortunately, I'm not the one who makes the rules.

Also, so many on here have said they don't want to come to the USA....they don't need to since they are now part of the EU, so why would they care whether or not there was a waiver?

oh, there are plenty of illegal poles here.. believe you me.. and lately it's probably been about 8/10 that i run into.

Even the Polish Govt. corroberates what you are saying, PLK!

The main reason for Poland’s exclusion from the VWP is that 30 percent of the 100,000 Poles who apply for U.S. entry visas each year are rejected—a rate 10 times higher than that required for VWP participation. State Department officials attribute the high rejection rate to the large number of Poles seeking illegal employment in the United States. The Polish government itself estimates that 70,000 Poles reside in the United States illegally on expired visas. St. Clair and Komperda, “Missed Moments.”

UK, Ireland / Polish immigration in UK [491]

maybe bubbawoo or whatever should have a polish person doing his job for a lower rate and see how he complains

Don't think BW would care, as he works for himself, and if a Polish person wants to do the same thing as BW, then more power to him....it is afterall their right.

USA, Canada / American people attitude towards Poles in the USA [98]

I don't understand why the US government is so tight with their visas.

Why are they so tight with them?

As some would like to believe(cough, cough) it's because of Poloniphobia.....in reality, it has more to do with letting in immigrants who have more dire staits than the Polish......think about it......after WWII, there was a great influx of Poles that came here and they prosper here, at least the ones I know.....if anyone would bother to read the stipulations of why the US Government has not allowed for the Visa Waiver to Poland , they might be surprised keep in mind though, you shouldn't believe everything you read, which obviously, many people on this forum do;)......I know the US gets a lot of flack for their stance in world politics, but the fact remains, many immigrants still want to come here, and obviously, we can't let everyone in......don't get me wrong, I would love nothing more than to have the Visa Waiver issued to Poland, but unfortunately, I do not make the rules.

USA, Canada / What do Polish people think of the USA [287]

where the heck do you hang out?..

To be fair, I work in a building that has a state of the art exercise facility, so I see fit people everyday.....but the place I was talking about was Broad Ripple......don't get me wrong, like you said, we live in a fatty state (#10 fattest out of the 50 states), and there is definitely a nationwide epidemic with obesity. Did we see obese people.....of course we did, but what is projected in Europe about the physical condition of Americans and what is actual reality are two different things.

USA, Canada / What do Polish people think of the USA [287]

It's probably the media over there that exaggerates it.

I think the media over there (Poland) and Europe in general exaggerates about the USA.

I will say the people I saw in Poland were definitely more fit as a whole as opposed to the US, and being one who works in the medical field, I can tell you that obesity is a nationwide epidemic......seems though that even BW was surprised at the number of thin people he saw here.....as I said, I guess he assumed everyone was going to be at least 50 lbs overweight with a Big Mac in one hand and an apple turnover in the other. :)

USA, Canada / What do Polish people think of the USA [287]

I would NEVER vote for Gore - his wife was behind a HUGE censorship campaign in the late 1980's and early 1990's and as an artist I am animately against censorship in any way.

Completely agree with you!

And Kerry was an unlikeable moron. That election was best described by Matt Stone and Trey Parker in the South Park episode Giant Douche and Terd Sandwich (or something like that.)

Now that is funny!!!!:) I'll have to see if I can find that episode.

I stand corrected. My apologies:)

I don't vote according to clubs, I vote according to policies.

So did you vote for Kerry in the last election? Did you vote for Gore in the election before that? Something tells me you sway a little more to the left than you are admitting;)

Any Polish people that are unappreciated in the UK are welcome in the United States.

Unfortunately, our govt. has made it more difficult for them to come here. BTW, Oscypek, everytime I see your avatar, it makes my mouth water.....mmmmmmm! ;)

Language / Use of Kochanie in Polish [37]

Hi all, could you tell me if "Kochanie" is a term you would use to address a friend, for example a male friend.. or is it "too" friendly, if you know what I mean? Or can it be used to say "sweetie" or "dearie"?

I have some Polish friends and when I say "kochanie", I usually mean sweety.....doesn't mean I have a romantic feeling towards the person.....that's just how I address people I care about......I do refer to my beloved as "sweety", but he knows that it is in an entirely different context.....;) For myself, I always let people know I care or love them when I'm saying goodbye (whether it be by phone, or in person) because I know how short life can be, and I don't want anyone in my life second-guessing how I felt about them or how they have affected my life......

Life / Are you too selfish to leave Poland? [22]

If one actually leaves to help their family out, that's not selfish.....if jealous "friends" tell lies about that person, well then, they really arent friends, are they? Besides, even if someone is cleaning toilets, its an honest job with honest pay.....better than someone going out and selling drugs to school children, or some other illegal activity for an easy buck.

Life / Prices of cars in Poland? [88]

What would the cost be for a Mercedes SLK 230 in Poland/Germany/UK? I assume it would be cheaper to buy in Germany since that is it's home, but would like to know comparitively to the US, where imports are expensive.

Life / Prices of cars in Poland? [88]

But to bring a car over from the US, it would have to be shipped (I would think that would cost a pretty penny). Would it not be more economical to buy the car in say, the UK and drive it over as opposed to shipping one from the US?

Life / Prices of cars in Poland? [88]

Is it cheaper to buy a car in another country of the EU and take it back to Poland or are the prices similar? What kind of taxing would be involved in buying a car in the UK or Germany and then bringing it back to Poland?

Love / the strange polish girl who broke my heart [30]

DO YOU WANT TO SHARE SOMETHING TOO?

I'll share this with you: chalk this one up to a learning experience....drunken sex rarely leads to something more serious......you both are young and shouldn't be tying yourselves down right now......go out and live a little.......one thing, don't get drunk again and fuk her best friend (unless, of course, she's really HOT and it will make the other one jealous)!

[I hope you see the sarcasm in that last remark]
