Work / Poland - Expat Careers [26]

i think general dictionaries are fine. how about , if you live abroad and want to call yourself an expat, go for it. I prefer to call myself an economic immigrant ( coming from a dying superpower an all...)

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

a lot of science programs in the us require a bit more focused course of studies if the student wants to finish a b.s. in 4 years. a bit more like the polish system with the general studies classes interspersed. for chem its usually chem 1 and 2 freshman year and calc. 1 and 2 maybe bio 1 and 2 , physics. year 2 org. chem 1 and 2 . maybe calc 3, differential equations . year 3 inorg chem and p. chem. year 4 special interest subjects, more math, chem and physics. deviating even one semester puts you behind.

i know the ivy league makes exceptions on certain things if they want you for whatever reason. a family member of mine cant write for anything, spells like a punk-rocker, but is decent at math and really good at football. got a scholarship and everything. i suppose a big donation to the uni would get your kid in as well.

Travel / Białowieża National Park in Poland [461]

i dont see whats so hard to understand about the old growth forest. there are loads of forests in poland but only bialowieza is generally untouched by humans thats why it's always been special, thats why people want to see it. even logging it sparingly for whatever reason messes up the whole thing. not "getting" this seems ridiculously thick.

Real Estate / Mortgage for foreigner in Poland - experience anyone? [13]

are you eu? which bank? ING wont loan a dime to americans. Mbank --never asked for a home mortgage but they are easy about all other loans. expect to wait months and even when your approved they might not release the money for a couple more months. if your wife is polish and has a decent job you should be fine.

Law / Cash loan in Poland without PESEL [49]

at mbank you can drop the insurance after 6 months. its just a way for them to make extra money. i think this game is wearing thin with borrowers so they are backing off a bit

Work / Paramedic salary in Poland [69]

nothing that he mentioned in the last post makes me think it's a good idea to move. rather he should focus on building the relationships he values at home. moving will make it worse. there are no magic values here that you cant find anywhere else.

what makes you think moving to a different country will help you and your family values? just curious? if you want to work less and spend more time with family, you would probably have better luck doing that in ireland. moving probably wont help in those departments. you create your family not society(mostly)

not everyone is poor and bitter in poland some of us language teachers have come and done ok. making a fortune? no. but ok. saying someone cant make it is just being overly dark about the whole thing. of course this fellow needs to think about what hes doing, but i suppose any move abroad requires that.

so quick to write others off. what a miserable lot some of you are. if the guy wants to make it he will. i know people who have been here for over a decade and are still banging on in language schools, others came sniffed around for a few months and opened their own schools. whether he goes this route or any other it will depend on him to make it work but saying he'll never make it.... just....

i dont know where youre getting your info. rates are going up in warsaw for teachers worth their salt. people are quite willing to pay for better service. bottom feeder teachers can still make it with high turnover of students. are you working here?

plentyof people in warsaw make 8 to 10 k gross a month teaching english. most english students want more than a 20 something year old med student who knows nothing about communicating the language. if this person is willing to combine the medical knowledge with a drive to teach, theyll be ok here, the market is in no way saturated.

honestly, you'd probably do better teaching english. you could sell yourself a medical english expert if youve got some drive. the language issue will disqualify you from working in your field. youd need near native level fluency. no sick person wants to deal with someone who they have limited communication with, plus it would open you up to all kinds of liability issues. lecture about medical stuff in english? who would hire you? maybe if you were a visiting doctor or surgeon but short of that no one will care.

Law / Setting up small business in Poland? [191]

if it's a dzialnosc gospodarcza, sole trader, paying 900 euro is a total waste. As long as youre eu or american it's basically free to start. go to the ceidg website and register online. go to your local townhall and sign the confirmation you registered, then to zus to confirm again. done. oh, open a business bank account at mbank or millenium (easiest in my opinion) if you still need help with a sole trader i'll help for 600 euro .
